Chapter 323: I Like Gambling
Li Mei raised her gaze to meet Tianlingâs, but she didnât respond, just looked at her defiantly.
âTianling? Is this your new skin?â she asked with a smile.
But Tianling didnât seem to be listening.
âI see, so itâs a cousin,â she spoke, looking directly into Li Meiâs eyes.
Li Mei was shocked by this, but she didnât show it on her face. She wondered if Tianling was bluffing. âWhat are you on about?â she asked.
But Tianling just continued gazing into her eyes.
âLetâs see, Li Li Li, Li YaoâŠâ she spoke. She then held her chin thoughtfully. âIs that her name?â
Li Mei looked on in shock, unable to mask it anymore. She wondered if this girl could actually read her mind. At first, she had thought that it was just Tianling possessed by some demon, but what was this? She could even read minds? She hadnât heard of such an ability before.
Tianling thought to herself that she had a name but she couldnât divine anymore from it. It was as if something was blocking her. She turned her attention back to Li Mei.
âWhere is this Li Yao?â she asked.
Li Mei smiled. âWhy donât you try reading it off my mind?â she asked with a smug smile. Li Mei thought that from Tianlingâs expression, it seemed she couldnât read anymore. She didnât understand how it worked, but this was a good thing.
As she was thinking of this, she suddenly found her mouth filled with sand. Tianling was sinking her head deep into the ground.
âDonât play games with me, little girl. Tell me where she is,â she spoke as she raised Li Meiâs head, blood trickling from the corners of her mouth.
Li Mei just smiled. âHehe, even when you are possessed, I wonât ever help trash like you. Itâs because of people like you that Grandpa isâŠâ she began but was smashed back onto the ground.
She was then raised again. âAre you going to talk or will you just keep spewing nonsense?â Tianling demanded.
Li Mei just smiled. âI donât know, you tell me.â
Tianlingâs expression grew even more angry.
She raised her other hand and a dark energy filled it. âSuit yourself. I can just search your soul,â she said. âThough I canât guarantee your survival with this method.â She added with a menacing smile.
Li Mei just watched as Tianling brought her hand closer and closer to her head. When she was just about to place it on her headâŠ
âStop!!!â Liu Feng yelled out.
The two women turned to look at him. Liu Feng let out a sigh. He wondered how things had gotten to this. If the Grand Elderâs sister-in-law was killed with him around, what would the Grand Elder think of him?
âWhat, Little Dragon? Do you also want to join in on the fun?â Tianling asked.
âLet her go,â Liu Feng said.
âOh, and what makes you think Iâll do that?â Tianling asked, bringing her hand even closer to Li Meiâs face.
âIf you let her go, Iâll tell you where she is.â
âŠ
The second Liu Feng spoke those words, Tianling appeared before him. He thought to himself she was really fast; he couldnât keep up at all.
âStart talking,â she demanded.
âYou havenât let her go yet,â Liu Feng said.
She grabbed his hair roughly. âIâm the one in charge around here. Itâs either you tell me and I can decide to let you and her go if I feel like it, or you can just refuse to tell me and I can search your soul. Iâll get what I want either way, so you decide which method works for you,â she said.
To her surprise Liu Feng began chuckling.
âNo, you wonât.â
She looked at him, wondering if he was also going insane like the girl. Were this generationâs people so weak?
âWhat do you mean?â she asked in irritation.
âYouâre wrong. You wonât get what you want either way,â Liu Feng said, causing her expression to shift slightly.
âWhat are you talking about?â she asked, her grip on his hair tightening.
âYou already know, donât you?â Liu Feng said, still chuckling.
âSoul search is an extremely crude method and completely destroys the soul of the one being searched, or at least cripples them. But even with it, you still wonât be able to get all the information,â he spoke confidently.
âYouâll just get some random memories, and others will be lost forever. Good luck getting what you actually want in those random memories,â he continued. âNot to mention that neither of us have developed souls yet, so itâll be even harder. At best, youâll find out which girl I liked in high school. At worstâŠâ He smiled even wider.
âYouâll get nothing.â
Tianlingâs expression turned serious. Liu Feng was right, soul search wasnât a good method. Thatâs why she was hesitant to use it. Dammit, if she was at her peak, she wouldnât even need to bother with these weaklings.
âWhy so quiet now? Sad that you donât make the rules anymore?â Liu Feng mocked.
Tianling had a furious expression, but she exhaled deeply and calmed herself down.
âYouâre right, soul search wonât work,â she admitted, causing Liu Fengâs smile to brighten.
âBut,â she began, letting go of him, âyouâre wrong in that I donât make the rules anymore.â In a flash, she grabbed Li Mei again, dragging her closer.
âWhat are you doing?â Liu Feng asked, his confidence wavering.
âIâm threatening you,â she said. âYou seem to care an awful lot about this chick.â Her lips curled into a smile. âHereâs the deal: itâs either you tell me, or I perform a soul search on her.â
The color drained from Liu Fengâs face as she continued, âThe chances of getting what I actually want are low, but Iâm willing to gamble.â
Her smile then widened. âNow, what is it going to be? Are you going to tell me? Or should I just take my chances?â she asked, tightening her grip on Li Mei.
Seeing Liu Fengâs silence, she added, âJust so you know, Iâm quite the gambler, and my fingers are itching. If you donât start talking soon, my old habits might just relapse.â Her face flushed with excitement.
âDammit, she got meâ
