A Speed Mecha at full power was truly a blur of motion.
There were bound to be zombie hordes along the way, but neither the Ordinary nor Intermediate Zombies could even get a clear look at the Mecha.
Only the High Level Zombies, with their impressive motion-tracking abilities, could barely make out the Mechaâs silhouette.
But seeing it didnât mean they could do anything. Before they even had time to react, the Mecha had already leaped over their heads.
Or it might just bring a foot down, crushing the Zombies below into a bloody pulp.
Lin Xinghai couldnât be bothered with the zombie hordes he passed. As he raced onward, his mind was completely focused on the intelligence transmitted by the recon team.
After Zhang Yueâs side began its bombardment, the five Hunters reacted by retreating a short distance, but they soon stopped to continue their observation.
Lin Xinghai figured that the five Huntersâ attention was now completely captivated by the forward baseâs firepower.
Meanwhile, his Speed Mecha was rapidly closing in.
Although the straight-line distance between him and the five Hunters was less than six kilometers, his planned route required him to make a detour of at least thirty kilometers.
The plan was to circle completely behind the five Hunters and strike from the direction of the city center.
That way, even if the Hunters spotted him, they would have to flee sideways, greatly increasing his chances of running them down.
After all, as long as these Hunters hadnât escaped into the city center, Lin Xinghai had no intention of letting a single one get away.
Thirty kilometers was by no means a short distance for an ordinary person, but for the Speed Mecha, it was nothing.
Thirty kilometers, fifteen, ten, five... In just over two minutes, he had already circled behind the Hunters.
Now he was entering the final, critical five-kilometer approach. This was also the trickiest part of the journey.
Unsure of the range of the Huntersâ danger sense, he couldnât afford to make much noise from this point on.
Even if a zombie horde blocked his path, he couldnât just smash through it for fear of causing a disturbance. He had to find a way to maneuver around it.
But even with the detours, the distance between the Speed Mecha and the Hunters continued to shrink rapidly.
Five kilometers... four... three... As he breached the three-kilometer mark, Lin Xinghai couldnât help but feel a surge of excitement.
At this range, even if the Hunters spotted him and scattered, he could take down at least one of them.
Of course, Lin Xinghai wasnât satisfied with just one Hunter, so he proceeded with even greater caution.
To minimize the Mechaâs noise, he not only slowed down but also began expending his Perception Power to exercise precise micro-control over every hydraulic valve and shock-absorption mechanism.
Combined with the thunderous artillery bombardment from Zhang Yueâs position, any noise the Mecha did make would be completely drowned out.
Three kilometers, two kilometers, one kilometer...
As Lin Xinghai closed to within one kilometer of the Hunters, the leader of the pack suddenly turned its head, looking back in confusion. This particular Hunter was not only exceptionally brawny, but its Perception also seemed especially keen.
But the street was completely deserted. On the Huntersâ command, even the Zombies that usually roamed here had all been sent to attack the forward base.
Lin Xinghai was actually just one street over, but the buildings blocked the Hunterâs line of sight, preventing it from spotting anything unusual for the time being.
Lin Xinghai grew even more cautious, slowing the Mecha down again. Under his incredible control, the dozen-ton machine moved with a sound barely louder than a person walking.
It was a faint noise, easily drowned out by the distant artillery fire.
The Mecha continued to close the distance. 1000 meters... 800... 600... 500...
Just then, the lead Hunter once again snapped its head around to look in Lin Xinghaiâs direction.
And it wasnât alone. The other four Hunters also sensed that something was wrongâthat danger was imminent.
However, with the buildings obscuring their view, they still couldnât spot anything.
This time, however, despite not finding anything, the five Hunters exchanged a glance and simply bolted.
"Shit!" Lin Xinghai couldnât help but curse aloud. The Hunters were not only perceptive but also damn cowardly.
But a curse was just a curse. In the same instant, he cranked the Mechaâs power to maximum.
BOOM!
The Speed Mecha smashed straight through a building, bursting onto their street.
Watching the five Hunters scatter, Lin Xinghai didnât hesitate for a second. He gave chase, raising the Electromagnetic Railgun as he moved.
BANG!
A blue beam of light flashed from the Electromagnetic Railgun. It struck one of the Hunters, and the immense shearing force tore its body in two. It might not have died instantly, but an injury like that was impossible to survive.
The Speed Mecha didnât slow down in the slightest as it fired, continuing its pursuit of the slowest Hunter.
After all, the Speed Mechaâs current Speed was a staggering 5,200 points. The Hunters, when not in a frenzied state, generally had a Speed of only around 2,000.
With a 3,200-point Speed advantage, the Speed Mecha caught up to the Hunter in the blink of an eye. Without a momentâs delay, Lin Xinghai brought the Mechaâs foot stomping down.
CRUNCH!
The second Hunter was instantly crushed into a bloody pulp.
Although Lin Xinghaiâs movements had been a single, fluid motion with no time wasted, the Huntersâ Speed was no joke. As they scattered, the farthest one had already put over a thousand meters between them.
But Lin Xinghai had already prepared for this. Panels on the Mechaâs legs slid open, and he launched the thirty Micro Missiles housed within in a single volley.
Ten Micro Missiles locked onto each of the three remaining Hunters. Ideally, the missiles would kill them. If not, they would at least buy him some Time.
As he launched the Micro Missiles, he was already in pursuit of the Hunter that had fled the farthest.
âThis is too good an opportunity to let any of them escape. Of course, Iâll go after the fastest one first.â
Lin Xinghai also recognized it: the one that had fled the farthest was the leader of the five Hunters.
âI always thought Mutated Zombies of the same type were all more or less equal in strength. But this Hunter leader is clearly different. Not only is its danger sense far superior to its kin, its Speed is also terrifyingly high, reaching a staggering 3,000 points.â
