Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Not a Single One Can Be Left
"Lin Xi."
"Lin Xi? Thatâs a good name. Your parents must be cultured." Elder Bai smiled faintly.
"I wouldnât know. Iâve never seen them since I was a child."
So, sheâs an orphan. Seems like thereâs no significant family background.
"Who taught you your medical skills? Any family?" Elder Bai was calculating. If Lin Xi was trained by a renowned family of doctors, then perhaps he could consider an association.
After all, since he awoke, he noticed his granddaughter frequently looking at Lin Xi. If Lin Xiâs family or background was good, he might agree.
But just being skilled in medicine, that wouldnât match up to marrying into the Bai family.
"An old man taught me. Itâs just the two of us." Lin Xi felt that Grandpa Bai talked a lot; if it were anyone else, she wouldnât have bothered answering.
However, Lin Xi didnât hide anything when asked these questions, feeling there was no need to conceal the truth.
Elder Bai could see Lin Xi wasnât lying and silently felt disappointed, thinking to have a talk with his granddaughter later.
"Now, the body is just repaired, but the core issue is the heartâs ailment. Only when thatâs resolved is it a true recovery."
"And for the time being, make sure to rest well."
Of course, Elder Bai understood this and nodded thoughtfully, then turned to look at Zhang Huacheng.
"Thanks to you during this period, my old friend."
"No need for such politeness. Itâs all thanks to Xiaobing for bringing my master here." Zhang Huacheng replied with a face unashamed.
Elder Bai was slightly surprised. No matter how skilled this young friend was in medicine, couldnât he just exchange knowledge? Must he commit to being a disciple?
But knowing this friend of his always acted directly, persuasion wouldnât work.
"Dad, how do you feel now?" Bai Zhenyang asked excitedly as he stepped forward.
Yu Cheng followed behind, "Dad, itâs so good to see you awake."
"Grandpa." Bai Xingye called out emotionally.
"Master Bai, seeing you wake up puts our hearts at ease." Chen Bainan also said.
Elder Bai nodded at each one, but paused at Chen Bainan,
"Bainan, you are thoughtful. Iâm fine now, you should head home first."
Chen Bainan was taken aback, awkwardly smiling at the elder,
"How could I rush home when Master Bai just woke up?"
"Yes, yes, Bainan has been very concerned these days, visiting daily. This kid is very filial, and I think he pairs well with Xiaobing..."
"Be quiet, Bainan, head home now. I have things to discuss; itâs not convenient with outsiders here." Elder Bai interrupted Bai Zhenyang sternly.
He glared at Bai Zhenyang, sighing inwardly at his sonâs foolishness, unable to discern who the ungrateful ones are.
This is why the family business isnât handed over to him; if it were, itâd be sold off without him even realizing.
Fortunately, Xiaobing has talent in business; otherwise, if anything happened to him, the entire Bai family would be swallowed without a trace.
As for Xingye, he is simple-minded and still in his rebellious phase; no expectations there for now.
He sighed inwardly again, thinking it seemed impossible for Xiaobing to marry out in the future.
Chen Bainanâs face flushed with red and turned pale. With Zhang Huacheng and Lin Xi still present, it was clear he was being guarded against.
But he had no choice, forcing a smile as he bid farewell and turned to leave.
"Stop!"
Just then, Lin Xi suddenly called out, leaving everyone bewildered.
"Do you have something to say?" Chen Bainan showed no friendly face to Lin Xi.
"Youâve truly forgotten!" Lin Xi said with a half-smile.
It was then that everyone remembered the bet Lin Xi had made with Chen Bainan, surprised that Lin Xi brought it up.
Was Lin Xi really going to enforce the hundred slaps?
"Lin Xi, why not just let it go?" Bai Bing advised, knowing that Chen Bainan was a well-known figure in Chuzhou City, not someone to offend carelessly.
If those hundred slaps took place, Lin Xi would surely face Chen Bainanâs crazy retaliation.
Bai Zhenyang and Bai Xingye were slightly angry, thinking Lin Xi was going too far, as it had merely been a joke and Chen Bainan was just trying to help them.
Yu Cheng was slightly worried for Lin Xi, while Elder Bai and Zhang Huachengâs expressions remained unchanged, without any attempt to intervene.
Everyone assumed Chen Bainan would be outraged, but to their surprise, he smiled, pulling out a check from his wallet, "Hereâs two million, letâs call it even!"
He felt extremely confident; a rural laborer probably couldnât earn that much in a lifetime, let alone have seen it.
Any intelligent person would know what to choose.
"Not a single slap less!" Lin Xiâs face turned cold.
Instantly, Chen Bainanâs extended hand seemed to have met winter, freezing in place.
Elder Bai sighed inwardly; young people were too impulsive, and his impression of Lin Xi lowered further.
Bai Bingâs eyes shone brighter. For her sake, Lin Xi had offended Chen Bainan and hadnât even looked at the two million.
Is this Lin Xi?
It was as though she discovered a different side of Lin Xi.
Though it seemed impulsive, this behavior, for her, was particularly attractive, especially as it was for her.
Zhang Huacheng felt his master was even more mysterious.
The others couldnât understand Lin Xiâs actions.
"You really want this!" Chen Bainan said angrily.
"If youâre afraid or scared of pain, then forget it!" Lin Xiâs cold face turned to one of ridicule again.
"You... youâre being too much!"
"What about bullying you?"
.....
"Pfft!" Bai Bing chuckled, quickly covering her mouth, while others held back their laughter, not daring to do so in front of Chen Bainan.
"Young friend, could you give me face?" Elder Bai couldnât bear it any longer; after all, this was in his home.
"Alright!"
Lin Xi didnât hesitate; after all, venting Bai Bingâs frustration was achieved.
"Bainan, you can go now and greet your grandpa for me." Elder Bai waved, and Chen Bainan glared at Lin Xi before finally turning to leave.
"In the future, you are not to interfere with the family business. Xiaobing will handle it his way."
"Dad, but..."
"No buts. Do you or donât you listen to me!" Elder Bai scolded.
"Listen, listen, of course, I listen!"
Bai Zhenyang trembled; although he had seen his daughterâs efforts, he always thought a girl should marry out eventually.
"Did you pay the consultation fee to our young friend Lin?" Elder Bai asked.
"Not yet..."
"Then hurry up, itâs getting late!"
Clearly, Elder Bai wanted them gone; to him, Lin Xi was just someone with a skill.
Someone that money could hireânothing more, completely unfitting for the Bai family.
