The debate that took place in the council chamber was naturally unknown to Reiger.
He could guess that Yuri would have a dispute with her father, and not a small one at that, but he had no idea what the outcome of the argument would be.
All he did was practice dissolving magic briefly in the courtyard, followed by some sword practice, until he realized the day had nearly turned to night.
"Letâs go back."
After glancing at the sky and barely catching his breath, Reiger, drenched in sweat, returned to the mansion to clean up.
It wasnât until then that Reiger encountered the folks from the Franzel family.
They were just coming down from upstairs, happening to run into Reiger.
"Mr. Reiger."
Mistis was the first to greet Reiger with a bow, her manners as thorough and graceful as ever.
Isu completely ignored Reiger, not looking to stir up trouble again, seemingly out of consideration for his family members present.
Yuri and Marilyn, who were walking towards the back, showed a hint of relaxation on their initially expressionless faces upon seeing Reiger.
As for Eredman and Safaz, both of them almost instantly fixed their gazes on Reiger.
"You are Reiger Brillhaut?"
Eredman scrutinized the man in front of him drenched in sweat, inexplicably holding a wooden sword, and about the same age as Yuri, with a hint of fluctuation arising in his stern eyes.
"Thatâs me."
Reiger nodded, his expression barely changing.
He could guess that Eredman must be the father of Yuri and the others, since among those present, only this manâs age qualified him to be of the parental generation, with the rest being of the younger generation.
However, Reigerâs attention was somewhat drawn to a person following behind Eredman.
It was a man who had his eyes closed the whole time, never once opening them, equipped with a sword at his waist, and who appeared to be over 30 years old.
In the group, apart from Marilyn, the rest either had golden or silver hair, with only this person having brown hair. His features and aura were quite different from the Franzel family, leading Reiger to realize that this person was probably not a relative of Yuriâs.
According to Yuri, the boys in her family inherited their fatherâs golden hair, and the girls their motherâs silver hair. Safaz and Isu had golden hair, while Yuri herself and Mistis had silver hair, which was undeniably a testament to the strength of their familyâs genes.
And this also proved that this swordsman with a wandererâs vibe was not a direct relative of the Franzel family but rather, like Marilyn, merely a subordinate, an attendant.
Indeed, that was the case.
Given that this man continuously followed behind Eredman, with all his energy seemingly locked on Eredman, ready to react promptly to any disturbance around Eredman, he was almost certainly Eredmanâs attendant.
The others somewhat intentionally or unintentionally overlooked him, even in the council chamber, where his presence was pitifully low, not speaking a single word or taking any action from beginning to end.
But Reiger was the first to take notice of him.
The reason was simple.
He could feel that the man was very strong.
Although not to the extent of making Reiger feel endangered, he did sense a threat emanating from the man.
This man was at the very least stronger than Ai En and Ian, much stronger.
This feeling, Reiger had previously experienced it from three other people: the three giants of the Loki familyâFinn, Revilia, and Grace.
This was getting interesting.
Reiger felt an excitement he hadnât felt in a long time.
Unaware that Reiger was now paying more attention to his attendant than to himself, Eredman, after sizing up Reiger, actually revealed a rare smile.
"Iâve heard about you," said Eredman out of the blue. "Youâre quite impressive."
Upon hearing this, Reiger blinked in surprise.
What did he mean?
Reiger was oblivious to the fact that his name had become well-known throughout the royal capital of Yaluf.
The general populace might still be unaware, but the well-informed nobility were already in the know, aware that Yuri had a Tactical Level Magician by her side.
Eredman, aware of the major events happening in Yaluf, naturally learned of Reigerâs existence.
Though, Eredman was very displeased with the things Yuri had been doing, he was quite satisfied with Reiger as a person.
After all, this was a Tactical Level Magician.
If he was Yuriâs man, that meant he was as good as part of the Franzel family.
After so many years, the Franzel family had gained the allegiance of a Tactical Level Magician again, which was a positive development.
In their heyday, the Franzel family had the support of no less than two Strategic Level Magicians and eight Tactical Level Magicians. Knowing this history, Eredman was eager to restore the familyâs former glory and thus expressed a strong welcome and joy for the addition of Reiger, the Tactical Level Magician.
Thinking of this, Eredman glanced at his younger daughter, who was standing properly beside him, and then patted Reigerâs shoulder.
"Keep up the good work," Eredman tried to relax his demeanor and demonstrate his goodwill towards Reiger, saying, "Although the Fransel family cannot offer you much now, as long as you are loyal to this clan, you will naturally not lack benefits."
The current thoughts of Eredman were all about how to secure Reigerâs ties with the Fransel family more tightly.
His connection with the Fransel family was not particularly solid.
During its heyday, the Fransel family boasted eleven individuals who made the whole continent tremble, either the children of the founding patriarch or his disciples, their ties with the Fransel family were extremely solid.
As for Reiger?
He had almost no direct relation to the Fransel family, said to be Yuriâs man, but with Yuriâs character, Eredman didnât believe she could truly capture a manâs heart.
In order to prevent this rare tactical level magician from slipping away, Eredman was considering whether he should marry Mitis off to Reiger.
A marriage contract is the most convenient and powerful testament to a relationship.
Any noble would consider a marriage alliance to expand the familyâs network, to strengthen the family ties, and to foster alliances and cooperation.
Once Reiger became his own son-in-law, that relationship would finally be secured.
Eredman did not show these thoughts but spoke earnestly to Reiger, then deliberately steered the conversation towards Mitis, causing Yuri who followed behind to frown.
As for Reiger...
Unfortunately, his attention was not on the young and beautiful Mitis, but on the swordsman behind Eredman.
Unaware of this, Eredman saw Reiger staring at him (or rather, behind him) and thought Reiger took his words to heart, feeling very satisfied and speaking even more.
After a while, Eredman left contentedly.
The swordsman behind him immediately followed, his eyes still closed, but his steps showed no hesitation or confusion, staying closely behind Eredman.
"Good luck, junior," Safaz only then spoke up with a meaningful smile towards Reiger, saying, "I look forward to your future performances."
After speaking, Safaz left as well.
Mitis and Ian exchanged a few words with Yuri, before leaving together, or rather, Ian attempted to escape but was caught by Mitis by the ear and, despite his protests, was dragged away.
The scene was suddenly left with only Reiger, Yuri, and Marilyn.
Reiger turned to Yuri only after the swordsmanâs figure had vanished from his sight.
It was then that Reiger noticed Yuriâs expression was somewhat unsightly.
"Whatâs wrong?" Reiger asked, puzzled, "Didnât the talk go smoothly?"
"... No, things were mostly agreed upon," Yuri shook her head and said, "Iâm just furious at that manâs stubbornness, does he really think I canât see what heâs plotting again?"
Reiger didnât fully comprehend her words but gathered the general idea.
"Since itâs been agreed upon, you shouldnât be arbitrarily arranged into marriage contracts anymore, right?" Reiger said, "Thatâs a good thing."
Although, even if Eredman arranged another marriage for Yuri, Reiger doubted he would succeed.
With Yuriâs influence, to void a marriage arranged by Eredman would not be effortless but was by no means difficult.
If Eredman were sensible and learned his lesson, refraining from such actions in the future, peace could be kept.
If not, with Yuriâs somewhat quirky nature, she might not always recognize him as her father.
While Reiger was pondering this, Yuri considered for a moment then turned her gaze to him.
"I have a favor to ask of you."
Yuri looked directly at Reiger, her eyes filled with a hint of expectation.
"You just say the word."
Upon hearing this, Reiger felt surprised, yet he didnât hesitate much.
Whether out of gratitude for saving his life or for taking him in, Reiger had every reason to help Yuri unconditionally.
Not to mention, Yuri had been relentlessly helping him, protecting his personal safety, granting him access to an important library, and even unconditionally teaching him the familyâs magic arts, which led to significant growth and gains for Reiger.
Given the relationship between the two, if Yuri truly needed his help, Reiger wouldnât hesitate.
Even if it was something quite dangerous, Reiger didnât mind taking the risk.
Perhaps sensing Reigerâs thoughts, a flood of tenderness appeared in Yuriâs hopeful eyes.
"Iâd like you to participate in the upcoming family contest âWar Festivalâ hosted by the Fransel family," Yuri stated.
"War Festival?" Reiger expressed his surprise, "A family contest?"
"Yes," Yuri nodded, then grabbed Reigerâs hand, saying, "Come on, letâs go back and talk about it."
With that, Yuri, holding Reigerâs hand and accompanied by Marilyn, headed towards her room.
