Chapter 38: Putting You in This Little Box
âSo, what do you think is valuable?â Before Chen Yuze could speak, Hu Yifei, standing nearby, curiously asked the two men.
âOf course, gold, silver, and jewelry,â the chubby man declared confidently, looking quite pleased with himself.
Chen Yuze sighed. âAre you guys living in ancient times? The least valuable things in a tomb like this are gold and silverâunless theyâre exceptionally rare, they arenât worth much. Antiques arenât priced by common logic. The rarer something is, the more valuable it becomes. You should really study up on this. Honestly, the least valuable things in this tomb are probably the gold and silver youâre after. These things can be mass-produced nowâwho would consider them valuable?â
âReally, bro? Thanks for the heads-up. We honestly had no idea,â Old Hu admitted, realizing he and the chubby man had been mistaken.
âAlright, keep at it. Iâm going to check the other side chamber. Be careful.â Chen Yuze could tell Hu Yifei hadnât found anything she liked and was feeling disappointed. As for the items in the main coffin, he doubted sheâd be interestedâespecially since it belonged to a man. Taking something directly off a corpse? No way sheâd like that. Better to check the burial offerings in the side chamber.
With little enthusiasm, Hu Yifei followed Chen Yuze deeper inside, leaving the chubby man and Old Hu to continue prying open the coffin. Noticing her disappointment, Chen Yuze quickly reassured her, âDonât worry, Yifei. If you donât like any of this stuff, we can sell it to the system for points. Then you can buy whatever you want with the points, right?â
Hu Yifei stared at him with dead-fish eyes. âHow come you know more about this than I do? You can exchange these things for points?â
âDidnât you check?â
âI didnât look closely. As soon as I heard âancient tomb adventure,â I just came along. Havenât had time to read the details.â Hu Yifei really hadnât paid much attentionâsheâd only glanced at the system store and noticed she had zero points. With a maximum of 200 points for this mission, split between them, it wouldnât be much. And with so many things she wanted, 100 points each would barely cover anything.
âWhatever, weâll figure it out later.â Chen Yuze didnât dwell on it. There was no guarantee Hu Yifei would keep adventuring with himâshe might retire after this mission if she earned enough. He could guess what she wanted to buyâafter all, she was still a woman at heart. Some things were just universal.
The two slowly made their way to the other side chamber. Compared to the previous one, this one was messier, with items haphazardly scattered around.
âYuze, whatâs this?â Hu Yifei pointed at a depression in the ground.
Chen Yuze looked down and saw pale white bones. He glanced back at Hu Yifei, impressed by how unfazed she was. Typical Hu Yifei.
Losing interest, Chen Yuze continued searching while explaining, âHorse bones. Probably the generalâs warhorse, buried with him after death. This is actually tameâsome tombs use live humans for sacrifice. This guy really was strange.â
âPoor horse, stuck with such a terrible owner.â Hu Yifei turned away, equally uninterested.
Chen Yuze found something odd but smiled. This might be more to her liking. In a corner, he found a small box, about the size of a shoebox, intricately carved and surprisingly heavy.
âYifei, think youâll like this?â Chen Yuze wiped the box clean and handed it to her.
Hu Yifei turned it over in her hands, then frowned. âIs this⊠an urn? Are you planning for me to put your ashes in here after you die?â
âUgh, no! Itâs a jewelry box! These are really rare!â Chen Yuze was annoyed. Since when did ancient people have urns? And why would an urn just be tossed on the ground? What do you think the coffin outside is forâdecoration?
âIt looks like an urn.â
âIf you donât want it, give it back. And I meant for you to check whatâs inside. The box itself is practically falling apartâitâs a miracle itâs lasted this long. Probably made of some rare sandalwood.â Chen Yuze was frustrated. First time I try to be nice, and this is the reaction I get?
âA jewelry boxâŠâ Hu Yifei perked up slightly and slowly opened it. Chen Yuze ignored herâarguing was pointless. Maybe heâd just exchange some points later for those âA-to-Câ enhancement pills. Sheâd probably lose her mind over those. Though, honestly, sometimes she looks like an A-cup, other times a D. Weird.
Meanwhile, Chen Yuze found a strange daggerâjet-black, barely the length of a palm, with no visible edge. He swung it lightly, finding it oddly comfortable, but the weight felt off.
This doesnât feel like a daggerâmore like a full-sized sword. He tested it against the wall, and the blade sliced through the brick like tofu.
This isnât normal. He stashed the dagger in his backpack and pulled up its description.
Mysterious Black Iron Dagger:
Forged from the remnants of a famous sword, this dagger was a casting errorâits edge invisible. The smith gifted it to his elder brother for self-defense. After the brother died in battle, it became a burial offering. Imbued with a womanâs lifelong emotions, it holds more sentimental value than the famed weapons made from the same material.
âBlack iron⊠like the Heavy Sword?â Chen Yuze murmured, suddenly forming a theory about the tomb ownerâs identity. But this is a Yuan Dynasty generalâthe timeline doesnât match.
