Chapter 4: Killing Thoughts

"Luis, are you dead or not!", Ruth suddenly went upstairs, looked at Luis and roared, "Go wash up immediately. It’s just a minor concussion, stop acting half dead. After washing, come downstairs to wipe the tables and chairs."

Ruth’s face darkened. "Lily, what’s wrong with you? Are you so poor and stingy that you have to save money even when hosting your own sister and brother in law?"

Lily’s face turned red as she tried to explain, but Nancy immediately cut in, "Forget it, Mom. Second Sister’s job only pays a meager salary, and Luis is a deadbeat who’s dirt poor. At least she bought something."

Luis clenched his teeth and fists in anger. Lily’s face flushed as she said, "Big Sister, it’s not that I’m stingy. I just don’t know how to pick crabs."

"If you don’t know how to pick crabs, at least you should know what fish tastes good, right? Grouper isn’t even expensive now, so why buy these cheap pomfrets?"

Daniel poked at the fish with his chopsticks and said, "Luckily there are no outsiders here. Otherwise, people would think our family is dirt poor with such a shabby spread."

Ruth exploded with anger. "Rules are dead, but people are alive. Don’t you understand that?"

"Exactly. Use your brain when working. At the sight of that woman, you should’ve reported it to your supervisor. How could you be so stupid?"

After dinner, the activity became lecturing Luis. Watching his wife’s worried glances from the kitchen, Luis gritted his teeth and lowered his head.

In his heart, he thought fiercely, Just wait. Once I figure out the system’s functions, I’ll make you pay.

As they spoke, Daniel snorted, "The Finance team said it wasn’t entirely your fault. They’re giving you a week off and 1000 dollars for medical expenses."

Ruth immediately said, "It’s all because he lacks common sense. How can he have the nerve to take their money?"
