Chapter 80: Lily Is Worried

"Him? He’s here on a business trip with his family. If I filed a complaint, he’d be done for."

Luis spoke in a doting tone and patted her head. Maria blushed but didn’t refuse the intimate gesture. In fact, the feeling of being protected and cherished today was especially wonderful.

"Remember this from now on, little one—there are still plenty of bad people in society. Someone like David being righteous today isn’t because he’s a good person; it’s because that bastard has a weakness I can exploit."

"Got it, thank you, Luis."

Maria blinked her big eyes and said, "Brother, let me treat you to dinner tonight, okay?"

"Another day. I already promised to treat that bastard David to dinner tonight."

"Then let me go with you. I can’t let you spend money because of my issue."

"Alright, see you in a bit!"

She’s quite thoughtful, Luis thought to himself before agreeing. After saying goodbye to her, he headed straight home.

The three sisters at home were still busy. As soon as Leah saw her brother-in-law, her face turned red, and she dodged away like a little thief—it was actually pretty adorable.

All the furniture for the master bedroom had arrived. The new wardrobe and new king-sized double bed, two computer desks, and a vanity were arranged spaciously without any crowding. It really made him realize just how cluttered things used to be.

"So, are you satisfied?"

Nancy stood at the doorway, speaking with a proud tone.

"This must be big sister’s work. Big sister always has great taste."

Seeing his fair-skinned, beautiful sister-in-law with her stunning legs, Luis immediately complimented her.

It had to be said, her return to the family home was perfectly timed. His delicate wife Lily had perfectly inherited her mother’s stingy tendencies. If she were put in charge of buying things, she’d definitely pick the cheapest options with the best cost-performance ratio—maybe even dig through secondhand markets.

But Nancy was different—she spent money extravagantly, was vain and materialistic, and had no self-restraint when it came to spending her own money, let alone someone else’s.

All the new furniture was high-end. Not only was Luis particularly satisfied, even Leah couldn’t stop smiling.

"What kind of bed costs 1,500 dollars? What’s so good about it?"

In stark contrast was Lily, who was hanging laundry. She had taken the opportunity to wash all the clothes, waiting to organize everything tomorrow.

Luis seized the chance to switch to his new phone. As soon as he inserted the SIM card, a System notification sounded in his mind:

"Ding... Data loading, APP downloading, data transferring..."

Nancy noticed the shopping bag on the table, her eyes darting around as she asked, "Brother-in-law, why did you buy so many phones and tablets?"

"For business use!"

Luis replied casually. Seeing the glint in Nancy’s eyes, he had a vague idea of what she was thinking.

His sister-in-law was still using a 12. When she bought it back then, she had bragged about it for a long time. With her personality, she was well-acquainted with expensive things—there was no way she wouldn’t recognize that this was the latest and most expensive model.

If nothing else, when it came to squandering money, Nancy had absolute authority in the family.

"The latest iPad—this must’ve cost over 1,000 dollars, right?"

Nancy opened the bag herself and looked inside, her eyes instantly lighting up.

"Brother-in-law, that’s not right. You’re using a 14, but my sister uses an Android. Look, I’m still using a 12."

"Also, I kept it a secret for you before—you bought little sister a 14 too. Mom and Lily might not understand, but you can’t fool me."

Luis maintained a lukewarm attitude toward her. Even though he noticed she was hinting at something, he pretended not to understand. Since the mission line hadn’t been activated yet, Luis didn’t want to waste energy for now.

"Thanks for covering for me, big sister. I’ll treat you to a meal another day."

Luis took a shower, changed into clean new clothes, tidied his hair, and looked at his handsome face in the mirror—he couldn’t help but feel a little narcissistic.

"Wife, I have to go out for dinner tonight. You guys handle dinner on your own."

"Okay."

As soon as Luis left, Nancy leaned in with a mysterious expression and said, "Lily, how can you be like this?"

Lily, while hanging clothes, asked puzzledly, "What did I do?"

Nancy didn’t hold back and said bluntly, "Where is he going? Who is he eating with? Is it with a woman? You should at least ask."

"Why should I ask? Luis has his own career to focus on. The least I can do is not hold him back."

Lily continued working as she spoke.

Nancy stomped her foot in frustration. "You’re such a fool. Aren’t you afraid some vixen will steal your husband? Or that he’ll fool around outside?"

Lily shook her head and smiled. "Big sister, I trust him on this. Luis isn’t the type to play around."

"Don’t be so naive. That was before."

Nancy spoke with a tone of exasperation. "Now that he’s changed his clothes, my brother-in-law is quite handsome. Plus, he has some money now."

"He might not be a player, but the vixens out there will throw themselves at him."

"Th-then what should I do!"

Lily panicked a little upon hearing this.

After all, what happened with their father, Arthur, was still fresh in their minds. Although she trusted her husband completely, in others’ eyes and in her own, she was ugly.

In other words, she saw herself as an ugly woman, insecure and sensitive. If Luis showed her even a little kindness, she would be overjoyed to the point of fainting.

"You, really... I’ll talk to you tonight. I think I should discuss this with Mom too."

Nancy’s worries were justified. The outside world was indeed full of temptations, but she had no idea that for Luis, the most alluring temptation came from within his own home.

While the two sisters were upstairs working and chatting, downstairs by the entrance, Luis embraced his unbelievably cute sister-in-law Leah, who was wearing adorable home pajamas, and kissed her under her expectant yet nervous gaze.

Not far away was another distinctive barbecue place. He booked a private room and had just sat down when Maria walked in smiling.

Her sky-blue dress outlined the young girl’s delicate and graceful figure. A green hair clip held her ponytail in place, giving her a fresh and lively look. Maria’s smile was especially sweet and particularly beautiful. She might not be a stunning beauty, but there was something about her that made people feel incredibly at ease.

"Brother Luis, do I look pretty?"

"Very pretty. Have a seat."

Maria sat right next to Luis, giggling as she said, "Brother Luis, you’re really handsome too, but I think your hair is a bit long."

"Oh really? I’ll get it cut next time."

After a bit of small talk, Maria looked surprised. "You’re already married?"

"Can’t tell, huh? I thought I looked pretty old."

Luis laughed self-deprecatingly, not intending to hide it.

"No, no, I really couldn’t tell!"

A hint of disappointment flashed across Maria’s face, but it vanished quickly as she smiled again and said, "Your wife is really lucky to have a responsible and caring man like you."

Luis lit a cigarette and joked, "Where did you get the idea that I’m responsible and caring?"

"’I don’t care if you earn money at the risk of your life, but if you earn dirty money, I’ll make it my business to interfere...’"

Maria repeated the words Luis had said earlier, her eyes full of admiration. Then she giggled and said, "And also, when I was crying, you comforted me. After I hit that piece of shit Connor, you immediately stepped in front to protect me."

"After I went back, I kept thinking about all those little details. They were just full of a sense of security. At that moment, I really wasn’t scared at all."

Maria stuck out her tongue playfully and said with a laugh, "It was actually my first time hitting a man. I was really nervous at the time too."

In private, Maria was very lively and became quite talkative when she felt close to Luis. She mentioned that in daily life, she wasn’t actually much of a talker.

From their conversation, Luis learned that she was a sophomore at the Sports University, a standout in the synchronized swimming department, and a standard athlete.
