Chapter 570: The Cleansing
As Anthony heard the three Warlordsâ words, his mind paused. âThe First Supreme⊠Could he be planning something?â Anthony thought.
His mind spun rapidly as he ran various scenarios through his thoughts, trying to decipher any hidden agenda within the mission. But he came up blank. When he had first met the League of Supremes, he could sense their emotions clearly.
None of them hated him or even had any emotion toward him. They simply didnât care about him. But that was at the beginning. As things progressed, Anthony began to sense faint emotional fluctuations from them. Still, none of them had anything personal against him, at least, nothing he could detect.
âUnless they are all good at using false emotions as a coverâŠâ Anthony thought, his mind running at the pace of a supercomputer at this moment.
âWaitâŠâ Anthonyâs thoughts paused momentarily, then continued. âThe Second SupremeâŠâ
When he had cut off the Second Supreme Monarchâs arm, Anthony sensed only pure shock from all the Supreme Monarchs present. Only the Second Supreme had displayed anything close to hatred, no, it wasnât just hatred. It was a deep, seething anger that pulsed through his veins like molten blood.
âHe had even attacked me on the spot in front of my parents. Now that they arenât here, what would he do? He wouldnât dare make a move within the military, since if the Vampires act rashly, the other Supreme Monarchs would instantly find out. But outside the military? Thatâs a totally different matterâŠâ Anthony thought, eyes narrowing ever so slightly.
âDid the Second Supreme Monarch issue the mission through the First Supreme Monarch as a cover for whatever heâs planning? Or did the First Supreme genuinely issue this mission, and the Second Supreme is simply taking advantage of the opportunity?â Anthony wondered, uncertainty swirling in his mind.
His thoughts suddenly spun to an anime he had watched in his past life. âThis is a classic case of Hiruzen and Danzo from the anime Naruto,â he recalled, the comparison drawing a cold realization in his heart.
Anthony simply stood still, his thoughts accelerating and spinning at full throttle. âIt seems the Second Supreme Monarch is going to use this mission to bury me. Maybe the First Supreme Monarch knows but says nothing out of friendship with the Second Supreme.â Anthony thought, his internal monologue sharpening like a blade.
âWell, it doesnât matter. Nothing they try will work. I will find out everything once I leave the military base,â Anthony concluded with quiet thoughts.
The plan didnât matter to him anymore. All schemes, no matter how intricate, would bow before absolute force. Whatever trap or treachery they had planned was ultimately futile.
No cold light flashed through Anthonyâs eyes, no killing intent leaked from his body. No anger, no fury, simply nothing. He remained ever so composed and calm, as though their so-called plans were nothing more than feeble scratches from mortals against a god.
Why should he have any emotional reaction toward those he was going to end? Strangely enough, Anthony even looked forward to the moment, yet his facial expression remained composed.
His eyes gazed down on the file once more. Although he already knew its contents, he still looked at it with the eyes of someone analyzing everything again.
[Mission Title: The Cleansing]
[Mission Type: Offensive Operation]
[Mission Location: Blue Planet; the Abandoned Desert of Ruins, a vast desert stretching for millions of kilometers, dotted with colossal stone pillars numbering in the millions and reaching toward the skies like forgotten guardians.]
[Mission Objective:
The headquarters of the Forsaken Cult on the Blue Planet have been discovered. Lead your team to the mission location and open a portal to serve as a direct path to the Forsaken Cultâs headquarters.]
This mission was a declaration of war against the Forsaken Cult, an organization that had plagued the Blue Planet for millions of years. Anthony didnât know how their headquarters had been found, and frankly, he couldnât care less about that at the moment. He read between the lines.
âThe headquarters of the Forsaken Cult on the Blue Planet have been discovered.â He repeated the words mentally. âDoes that mean they have another headquarters on a different planet?â he questioned inwardly.
Since the military couldnât afford to mobilize a large-scale deployment of military aircraft without alerting the Forsaken Cult, Anthonyâs team was instead tasked with heading to the location, opening a portal, and letting the army through.
âSimple enough,â Anthony thought.
His mind drifted briefly to the time the Forsaken Cult had actually sent an assassin after him. That had been his first battle against a Paragon ranked enemy. A bloody, vicious encounter.
âAnother bloodshed⊠I guess Vega would love this, after all, this is a major event,â he mused.
Seeing Anthonyâs prolonged silence, Warlord Aerenya sighed softly and spoke, âEven our Supreme Monarch approved this. After all, the mission wouldnât have reached us without going through her. And even if it did, we wouldnât dare hand it over to you without her approval.â
âIâll take the mission then,â Anthony replied, as though he had accepted it merely because his motherâs name had been mentioned.
âAs stated in the mission file,â Warlord Raelith began, his tone calm, âwhen you arrive at the Abandoned Desert of Ruins, you are required to open a portal through which our soldiers can pass through to the battlefield.â
âSo, weâre basically using the same method the demons used against us to destroy Military Base Alpha-6⊠but this time against the Forsaken Cult,â Anthony said, raising an eyebrow slightly.
The Warlords didnât bother denying it.
âIndeed, we are,â Warlord Aerenya responded with a calm smile. âJust because demons used a particular tactic doesnât mean we canât employ it ourselves.â
Anthony nodded in acknowledgment, then asked, âWhat about their base on another planet?â
âIt seems youâre smarter than we thought,â Warlord Brontagarâs voice rumbled through the air.
Anthonyâs gaze shifted to the Titan, but he said nothing. A Titan saying such words felt like an insult, but he chose not to speak on it.
âTheir headquarters on a different planet will be handled by the Supreme Monarch herself,â Warlord Aerenya replied, her expression tightening into a frown. âThatâs because the leader of the Forsaken Cult possesses power equal to that of a Supreme Monarch.â
