Chapter 1081: Shanshan Side Story (8) Chapter 1081: Shanshan Side Story (8) The temperature her fingertips sensed caused the smile at the bottom of her eyes to abruptly vanish. She hurriedly turned on the light in the room, and when she looked down, Shanshanâs pale, jade-like cheeks were suffused with an abnormal flush.
âShanshan.â
She reached out to touch her body, and the temperature was frighteningly high.
Damn, sheâs running a high fever.
She threw back the blankets and picked up Shanshan, then ran out of the room.
âXiaojing!â
At the sound of her voice, Quan Jingwu came out of the study room and saw her running with Shanshan in her arms, his eyes suddenly darkened.
âMy good treasure, whatâs wrong?â
âXiaojing, Shanshan has a high fever. We need to get to the hospital fast,â Jian Qing said urgently.
Quan Jingwu lowered his gaze to Shanshan. The pretty little girlâs brow was tightly knitted, she seemed to be in much discomfort. âIâll go start the car, you get a jacket to put on Shanshan.â
âOkay.â
Quan Jingwu ran downstairs quickly. Rhee and the others, who had not yet gone to bed, heard the commotion.
âJingwu, where are you going so late?â
Quan Jingwu grabbed the car keys from the table, and while putting on his shoes, he said, âShanshan has a fever.â
âHow can that be? Wasnât she just fine?â The elderly Madam Quan showed a look of astonishment upon hearing the footsteps from the staircase, she turned to look.
Jian Qing, carrying Shanshan, was coming down the stairs quickly, and Rhee and several others went up to meet her.
âMummy!â
Shanshanâs eyes were half-closed, and her hoarse voice carried a nasal quality as she kept calling out for Jian Qing.
âItâs okay, baby, Mummyâs here, everythingâs okay.â
Jian Qing soothed her softly. Shanshanâs fever had come on suddenly, without any warning, and she kept on moaning about her discomfort; it was distressing for Rhee and the others.
âShe must have caught a chill from sleeping outside this afternoon.â Rhee clasped her hands tightly, worry filling her eyes.
Anxious about Shanshan, Quan Mingxuan took Rhee with him to the hospital in the car.
By the time they arrived at the hospital, the doctor was already examining Shanshan.
Jian Qing stood at the doorway, her gaze locked onto Shanshan lying on the hospital bed.
âItâs okay, donât worry,â Quan Jingwu held her hand. His touch was icy, frighteningly so, as he whispered words of comfort.
After a while, the doctor and the nurse came out.
âDoctor, how is she?â Jian Qing asked anxiously.
âItâs a good thing you brought her in on time. The fever was caused by a chill. Weâve given the child an injection, and sheâll need to be on an IV tonight. She should start getting better by tomorrow.â
Jian Qing said, âThank you.â
The doctor was aware of the coupleâs status and felt unnerved by the thanks, quickly waving his hand.
âThis is our duty as doctors.â
The ward was filled with the faint smell of disinfectant alcohol.
Jian Qing sat by the bed, her heart aching as she watched the small bundle on the bed.
âMom, you all should go back,â Quan Jingwu said, glancing at the sleeping Shanshan then turning to Rhee and Quan Mingxuan.
Rhee nodded, âCall us if you need anything, and Iâll bring breakfast over tomorrow.â
Quan Jingwu let out a soft hum of agreement, and Rhee left with Quan Mingxuan.
The bright moon hid behind the clouds, out of sight.
Suddenly, a black sedan pulled up at the hospital entrance.
Del got out of the driverâs seat and went around to the back to open the door.
The next second, a small foot in a black boot stretched out of the car. The boot was small, likely fitting a child around five or six years old.
Once the first foot was planted firmly on the ground, the second foot also made its way out, followed by the slender figure of a child emerging under the moonlight. The childâs black casual clothes couldnât hide the innate elegance and noble bearing.
âYoung Master, should we take the gift as well?â Del asked.
Mu Chenâs delicate little face was covered with a layer of chill, and his small iceberg-like appearance bore some resemblance to Quan Jingwuâs aura. His usually calm icy eyes were tinged with a bit of worry at this moment.
âLetâs take it with us.â
His tone was without fluctuations, always cold as ice.
Mu Chen hurried into the hospital, his face showing a rare panic.
He hadnât arrived on time. Would Shanshan be angry with him?
As soon as he got off the plane and heard she had been admitted to the hospital, he rushed over.
âYoung Master, slow down.â
Del followed close behind him, watching his undisguised worry for the girl called Shanshan and feeling both relieved and worried in his heart.
For the Young Master now, having a weak spot could only be a disaster.
âIs it that ward?â Mu Chen stopped and asked Del.
Del nodded and whispered, âYoung Master, that little girlâs parents are both in there. Are you sure you want to go in?â
Hearing this, Mu Chen paused, and hesitation and conflict intertwined in his eyes.
In the end, he withdrew his step and looked at the gift Del was holding.
âDel, letâs go.â
âBut, Young Master, what about this gift?â
Mu Chenâs eyes lost their complexity, âGive it to the nurse, and have her pass it on to her tomorrow.â
âYes.â
Mu Chen looked back at the ward at the end of the corridor, a trace of reluctance crossing his eyes.
Shanshan, you have to get better quickly.
After a nightâs drama and learning that Shanshan was alright, everyone finally felt relieved.
Early in the morning, Rhee came with breakfast, and Seventeen and Nineteen insisted on visiting Shanshan before going to school. Rhee couldnât stand their pestering and had no choice but to bring them along.
âShanshan, are you still feeling bad?â Nineteen sat by the bed, holding Shanshanâs soft little hand and asking softly.
Shanshan shook her head. Except for her face still being a bit pale, she seemed to be recovering fast, âIâm not in pain, Second Brother, donât worry.â
Nineteen hugged her emotionally and even kissed her little face, âShanshan, weâre going to school now. Weâll come see you again in the evening. You have to get better quickly so that I can buy you something tasty.â
âOkay.â Shanshan nodded with a smile in her eyes.
Seventeen did the same as Nineteen, kissing her and then handing her the lollipop he had brought from home, âShanshan, with a lollipop, taking medicine wonât be bitter.â
Everyone at home knew that Shanshan hated taking medicine; every time she would hold back her tears, which was rather heart-wrenching.
âSeventeen, Nineteen, itâs time to go, or youâll be late,â Rhee said, looking at the affectionate exchange between the three siblings with a smile.
âWeâre coming.â
Seventeen and Nineteen ran over, shouldered their backpacks, and left with Rhee.
âShanshan, have some porridge, and then Mommy will take you outside for a walk, okay?â Jian Qing picked up the bowl and spoon and blew on the porridge.
âOkay.â
Shanshan nodded and ate the porridge Jian Qing fed her.
âKnock, knock, knockââ
There was a knock at the door as Quan Jingwu put down the bowl.
âCome in.âî
The nurse pushed the door and entered. Seeing Quan Jingwu and Jian Qing, her eyes showed a bit of reverence, âCEO Quan, Mrs. Quan, hello.â
Jian Qing nodded her head, âIs there something you need?â
âSomeone asked me to pass this gift to your daughter.â The nurse walked over and handed the neatly wrapped bag to Jian Qing.
For Shanshan?
Jian Qing took it, without hurrying to open it, âDid the person leaving the gift say who they were? Or did they leave any message?â
