The two of them walked out of the Mu Residence one after the other, traversed a few long streets, and entered a particularly dilapidated alley.
"The family is poor, Iâm afraid the lady is amused." Seeing Mu Hanyanâs strange expression, Tang Bufan said awkwardly.
"No, no, youâve misunderstood. I just thought of an elder, donât think too much." Mu Hanyan quickly explained, as she didnât want to hurt Tang Bufanâs already fragile self-esteem.
"Oh." Having spent so much time with Mu Hanyan, Tang Bufan knew she wasnât a shallow person, so he didnât think much of it and smiled calmly.
"Grandma, Iâm back." Tang Bufan called out in a moderate voice.
The yard was silent, and no one responded.
"The old ladyâs hearing isnât great, she might not have heard us. Letâs go in." Tang Bufan said, then led Mu Hanyan straight inside.
"Wait." Mu Hanyan suddenly said after taking a few steps.
"What is it?" Tang Bufan asked, puzzled, glancing at her.
"Hurry up and leave!" Mu Hanyan shouted.
Then, without waiting for Tang Bufanâs reaction, she dragged his arm and retreated swiftly towards the courtyard entrance.
"Sure enough, thereâs still a remnant. The wait these days wasnât in vain." An icy voice sounded behind them.
A strong, forceful hand came crashing down towards Mu Hanyanâs back.
Though relying on her powerful Six Senses, Mu Hanyan keenly sensed that hint of danger, she still didnât expect the opponentâs attack to be so subtle and decisive, leaving no time to think, she turned and struck back with a palm.
"Bang," a muffled sound echoed, and Mu Hanyan was shaken forward a few steps.
Turning her head, Mu Hanyan found three young men in white sword robes blocking the courtyard entrance.
"Who are you?" Mu Hanyan frowned and asked.
The few before her were only around twenty-one or twenty-two years old, but judging from the power of the one who attacked, his strength was at least that of a Fifth Rank Sword Master, even catching Mu Hanyan off guard and forcing her back a few steps.
At such an age, with such strength, even within the Families itâs rare, so what background do these people have?
What puzzled Mu Hanyan even more was how the impoverished and humble Tang Family could have offended such powerful foes? Could it be a case of mistaken identity or some misunderstanding?
Mu Hanyan was much more mature now, she didnât want to act rashly without understanding the situation.
The young men saw Mu Hanyanâs face clearly and seemed momentarily dazed.
The Big Playboy Mu had a notorious reputation at Long Yan Academy, and under her oppressive aura, almost all disciples were both respectful and fearful of her, not even daring to meet her gaze. So even though she had reverted to womenâs clothing, the Academy Disciples still dared not disrespect her.
But it was the first time these few had seen her, and not having heard of her infamous reputation, they were momentarily struck by her otherworldly beauty, mistaking her for a celestial being.
"I never expected that Anyun Country would have such a stunning beauty, and with such strength, this trip was truly worthwhile." The young man who had attacked earlier gulped, exclaiming repeatedly in admiration.
Mu Hanyanâs previous move had been too hasty, not displaying her true strength, so it seemed he didnât think much of it. Of course, even if Mu Hanyan used her full strength, the difference in level with a Fifth Rank Sword Master wasnât too great.
"Who are you?" Seeing his frivolous gaze, Mu Hanyan felt displeased, and her tone turned colder.
"Little sister, we canât disclose our identities. Itâs said only a child of the Han family remains outside, so youâre not a descendant of the Han Family. Stand aside obediently, and once we finish our business, weâll come chat with you." The young man ogled Mu Hanyan, his expression growing more flirtatious.
"The Han Family?" Though Lady Mu knew well about beauty bringing trouble, having disguised as a boy from a young age, this was the first time she encountered such a lecher. Feeling somewhat repulsed, yet confused by their words, she wondered if they truly mistook her for someone else, temporarily suppressing her dislike, and asked bewilderedly.
"So you donât know his true identity, thatâs even better. Step aside for now, and after Iâve dealt with this heretic, Iâll have a good chat with you." The young manâs eyes glimmered with wicked intent as he spoke to Mu Hanyan.
A heretic? Mu Hanyanâs heart stirredâcould it be that Fen Qianjiâs identity had been exposed, implicating Tang Bufan?
"You are Tang Bufan, right?" As Mu Hanyan speculated, the men already surrounded Tang Bufan.
"Correct." Tang Bufan nodded, sensing their hostility, and gripped his sword hilt, fully alert.
"Kill him." The young man commanded without hesitation.
Several longswords were drawn simultaneously, stabbing towards Tang Bufan. Their sword force was fierce, directly targeting Tang Bufanâs vital points, clearly intending to kill him on the spot, without even giving him a chance to speak after confirming his identity.
"Stop!" Mu Hanyan swung her longsword, stepping in front of Tang Bufan.
She could see that these were all Fifth Rank Sword Masters, and their sword power was slightly stronger than other Masters of the same rank. The combined attack of the three was no light matter; with Tang Bufanâs current strength, he couldnât possibly resist it.
Amidst the Dragon Roar, the Cold Sky Sword slashed a snowy arc, once again shielding Tang Bufan.
The clash of sword lights sent both Mu Hanyan and the opponents retreating several steps.
"Who are you?" The lead young man, now realizing he had underestimated Mu Hanyan, put away his earlier frivolity, eyeing Mu Hanyan with a serious expression.
Mu Hanyan had asked their identities earlier, and they had refused to answerânow they were questioning her identity instead.
"Long Yan Academy, Jiang Qiling." Mu Hanyan replied coldly, a growing intent to kill in her heart.
If, as she suspected, Tang Bufan was implicated because of Fen Qianji, then the opponents were likely from the Holy Court. Although she didnât want to cause trouble for the Mu Family and Ye Lanfeng, for Tang Bufanâs sake, she was ready to kill and silence them.
Yet the opponents werenât weak, and if anything went wrong, it wouldnât end well. So she used Jiang Qilingâs name as a cover for now.
Anyway, Jiang Qiling and her father had left Long Yan Academy, even if they investigated later, there wouldnât be any evidence.
This incident happened too suddenly, and Mu Hanyan hadnât had time to change her appearance, leaving some risks. If she truly had to act, killing them would be the best solution.
Though she wasnât fond of rash action, once decided, Lady Mu would never hesitate.
"Jiang Qiling." The others hadnât heard of the Little Witch of Long Yanâs name, and showed puzzled expressions.
Itâs no surpriseâlike Mu Hanyan, Jiang Qiling had hidden her skills since childhood, presenting herself as a spoiled rich girl. Even the disciples at Long Yan Academy only recently learned of her true strength; how could outsiders know?
