Chapter 221 221: 221 Detective Conan 20

Chapter 221 · 12,385 words

We arrived at the Mouri Detective Agency. My manager had a restaurant reservation, so he left.

"I feel like I forgot something... Ah! Heiji!"

I realized I had forgotten to say goodbye to Heiji.

"Well, I'll see him again sometime."

Conan, standing beside me, said sympathetically, "Heiji seemed really happy to see us..."

Just then, Ran invited me to eat.

"Jin, eat before you go. You'll be alone at home anyway."

"Okay, thank you."

While eating, I brought up the yacht trip.

"The repairs on my new yacht are finished. How about we go on a trip on a day this month when the holiday and weekend overlap?"

"I don't have any plans that day, so it should be fine."

Kogoro asked, "Just you two going?"

"Of course not. Everyone's going. Sonoko will probably come too. You're free that day, right?"

"Hahaha! I always have free time. A yacht trip... sounds great. I'll bring my fishing rod."

Kogoro seemed very excited about the trip. The funny thing was, Conan also seemed secretly excited.

The next day at school, I told Sonoko about the trip schedule.

"By the way, the itinerary includes Osaka?"

"Ah, that's because we need to refuel, so we'll stop at Osaka. And right next to the Osaka Marina are Universal Studios and the aquarium."

"Oh~ I see. Then I'll need to pack appropriately. It's been a while since I've been to Universal Studios."

As expected, Sonoko, being a wealthy heiress, had already been there.

A few days later, the day of the trip arrived. In the meantime, Mouri had solved several cases with Conan's help. I also helped by doing various onmyoji tasks or giving hints on cases.

We decided to leave right after school the day before the holiday, as the travel time was considerable. The food and supplies were prepared in advance, and the yacht was docked at the marina.

"Okay, I'll go home and pack with my dad. It's the Tokyo Enoshima Marina, right?"

"Yeah. I'll go ahead with Sonoko."

Sonoko was alone, so I offered to take her.

"Let's hurry, we have a lot of luggage."

I rode my bike to Sonoko's mansion, then called a taxi. She had a lot of luggage—about two large suitcases.

"Isn't that too much?"

"Heheh, is it? I already cut back."

"We don't have much time, so let's just go."

As we were leaving, Chairman Suzuki and his wife, Tomoko, saw us off.

"Have a safe trip. And if anything happens, don't hesitate to call me."

"Thank you. I'll be careful."

Chairman Suzuki looked a bit worried. It probably wouldn't happen, but if something did, he might even send a helicopter. We said our goodbyes and headed to the marina.

"I'm so excited."

Sonoko was very excited.

"Huh? Your family has a yacht too, don't you? Haven't you traveled a lot?"

"We have, but only with family. I've never gone with friends."

"Ah, I see."

It would have been difficult for the chairman of a major corporation to travel on a yacht with others.

We arrived at the marina, picked up the luggage, and headed to the docked yacht.

"Wow~ Is that it? It's bigger than I thought."

"I bought a nice one since I plan to travel often. When I'm older, I want to go around the world."

"Really? Take me with you. Let's go after we graduate."

"Okay."

Sonoko was amazed by the interior.

"This is really nice? It's smaller than our yacht, but it's surprisingly spacious, and the interior is very luxurious."

It was natural for Sonoko to feel that way. Being an electric yacht, I had reduced the engine room and fuel tank space during the modifications, expanding the interior.

"Right? I put a lot of care into it. Let's unpack and wait outside. Ran might wander around looking for the yacht."

"Okay."

We unpacked, then went outside and waited in front of the marina. After about thirty minutes of chatting, a taxi arrived. We saw Kogoro, Ran, and Conan getting out and helped them with their luggage. Compared to Sonoko's, their luggage was very light.

"Your luggage is light."

"We only brought what we needed. I heard it's good to pack light for a yacht trip."

"I see. But my yacht runs on a motor, so it wasn't necessary."

"Oh, really? Then I should have brought more clothes."

Ran regretted not bringing more.

We took the luggage to the yacht and unpacked. Then I explained the essentials.

"You've seen these in movies, right? Signal flares. In an emergency, open this, put the flare in, aim at the sky, and fire."

"Oh~ I see. This is my first time seeing them in real life."

"The medicine is here, so use it if you get hurt or sick. And these are life vests... emergency rations... fire extinguisher..."

After explaining everything, an hour had passed. So we ate a quick meal near the marina and finally set sail. The weather was, of course, perfect. The sea was calm, so we could move quickly. Naturally, I had used [Weather Manipulation] in advance.

"Wow~ It's so fast!"

Sonoko was surprised at the yacht's speed.

"The weather's good, so I can push it."

"I see. I was wondering why it wasn't rocking much even though we're going fast."

Sonoko, having experience, seemed to know these things. I wanted to go faster, but I should be careful.

After a while, Kogoro came out on the deck and opened a beer.

"Ahh~~! Drinking beer on the ocean, looking at the wide sea, this is the life~!"

"Having a drink is fine, but don't get drunk. You might fall overboard."

"Don't ruin the mood. Son-in-law, you want one?"

Just then, Ran came out and scolded Kogoro.

"Dad! Jin is driving!"

"Haha, right."

"Honestly... Are you going to have to drive until we arrive?"

Ran seemed to think I would have to drive all night.

"No, these yachts have an autopilot function. Once we're in open water, I can rest too. Of course, I still have to monitor the ARPA and GPS."

"I see. Good."

I continued navigating while the others watched movies or played games in the salon before going to bed.

We arrived at Osaka Marina around 3 AM the next morning. Everyone was still asleep, so I carefully docked. The marina was open 24 hours, so with the help of a staff member, we quickly tied up. I thanked them and took a nap on the sofa.

I woke up around 8 AM. Everyone was still asleep, so I prepared breakfast. I made simple bacon sandwiches and soup and set the table. Soon, people started waking up, yawning.

"Ah~ I slept well. Huh? Jin, did you sleep? You made breakfast."

Sonoko saw the prepared meal and asked.

"We arrived in Osaka at 3 AM. I slept and then woke up."

"Wow... You're so diligent... No wonder you're rich. Hey, if you get tired of Ran, how about marrying me? I think I'd feel secure marrying Jin."

Sonoko said this even though Ran was right there. Probably a joke.

"Honestly."

Ran also seemed to take it as a joke. We had a late breakfast.

"Wow~ This is delicious. It's just a simple sandwich, but why is it so good?"

Sonoko was impressed, and Ran boasted, "Jin is an amazing cook, too."

"Really... Good at studying, good at cooking, capable, athletic, handsome, and diligent. The perfect husband material. Ran, how about letting me have Jin?"

"Sorry, but Jin is already going to marry me. Give up."

"Tch... Where can I find a guy like that..."

Everyone laughed. Except for one person. Of course, that was Conan.

After finishing the meal and cleaning up, we washed up and prepared to go out.

"So, today we're going to Universal Studios and the aquarium?"

"Yes. I've made reservations, so we just need to go."

"Okay."

"Ah, I didn't mention it, but since we're in Osaka, I arranged to meet Heiji. I felt bad for not saying goodbye last time. Anyway, we're meeting at the main gate of Universal Studios. He's coming."

"I see. Okay."

Sonoko asked, "Who's Heiji?"

"Ah, Heiji is..."

Ran told Sonoko about Heiji. Sonoko had never met him.

"Is he handsome?"

"Hmm... I suppose he's handsome."

"Oh~ Really? Does he have a girlfriend?"

"I don't know. I didn't ask."

"Oh~ Is that so."

Sonoko had a predatory glint in her eyes. But her wish would not come true. Heiji had a very cute girlfriend, 'Toyama Kazuha'. They weren't officially dating, but as childhood friends, they were practically inseparable.

We changed into light clothing, took a taxi from the marina to Universal Studios. When we got out at the main gate, we saw Heiji waving.

"Hey~ Over here!!"

"Ah, Heiji, long time no see!"

Heiji wasn't alone; he came with 'Toyama Kazuha'. I knew her, but asked anyway.

"Who's this?"

"Ah, this is my childhood friend, Toyama Kazuha."

"Really? I didn't know you had such a cute girlfriend."

"She's not my girlfriend! Just a friend... She wanted to meet you and Mouri-san, so she came along."

Heiji said, slightly embarrassed.

"I see."

Sonoko looked at Kazuha carefully, then sighed and shouted, "Haah... Childhood friends... Ugh! Couple hell!!"

Sonoko seemed to have figured out the relationship between Heiji and Kazuha.

"Huh? What's wrong with her?"

"Ah, just ignore her."

We briefly exchanged greetings and started having fun at Universal Studios. Sonoko played even harder, as if seeking compensation. There was one disappointment: Harry Potter didn't exist in the Conan world, so they didn't sell Butterbeer. And passersby recognized me and asked for autographs, but I was used to it, so I quickly obliged.

Heiji treated us to lunch, as thanks for last time.

"Thanks. We'll enjoy it."

"Don't mention it. Oh! My father said if he ever sees you again, he'll buy you a meal, so he wanted to see you. He's probably interested in your onmyoji arts."

"Really?"

"It amazed me too, last time."

"Well, since he bought me lunch, should I give you a fortune?"

"Really? Great."

Heiji was happy at the prospect. Kazuha, curious, watched. I touched Heiji's forehead and pretended to read his fortune.

"Hmm... Oh?"

"Why? Is it bad?"

"No, not that... Wait a moment."

I looked at Kazuha and said, "Your name is Kazuha? Can I try yours too?"

"Huh? Uh... sure..."

Kazuha, a little flustered, agreed. I touched her forehead and pretended to read her fortune.

"Wow... Should I say this or not?"

Heiji, very curious, urged me on. "What is it? Whatever it is, I'll accept it. Just tell me."

"If you insist, okay. You two are tied by fate as husband and wife. Barring any major changes in the future, you will probably marry."

"I-I see."

Heiji seemed a bit flustered but not surprised. Perhaps he had feelings for her. Kazuha blushed and couldn't raise her head. She was very embarrassed, as if her secret feelings had been exposed.

Kogoro smiled and said, "My son-in-law's fortunes are never wrong. From childhood friends to marriage, that's wonderful."

We finished eating and continued playing at Nintendo World, but Heiji and Kazuha were quiet.

'These guys, even with my help, aren't making any progress.'

I figured they'd sort it out themselves and left them alone. We played until around 3 PM, when it was time to go to the Kaiyukan aquarium. But I couldn't go. I needed to return to the yacht to prepare. The yacht didn't need fuel, but I needed to refill the water and empty the blackwater tank. I had told everyone in advance, so they knew.

"Then, have fun. I'll have everything ready."

"Are you sure you don't want to come? Should I just come back to the yacht?"

Ran asked again, but I said it was fine.

"No, I'm fine. And if you come too, Sonoko will be the only one."

"I suppose. Okay."

I said goodbye to the others. Heiji and Kazuha were holding hands, so it seemed some progress had been made. I was glad they weren't frustratingly dense.

"Then, see you later, Heiji."

"Thank you for today."

He had bought me lunch and yet was thanking me. He must have liked the outcome.

I returned to the marina, cleaned and prepared the yacht, and bought more supplies. Evening was approaching, but Conan and the others hadn't returned.

'Did something happen?'

It couldn't be money problems. I had paid for the aquarium tickets and given Ran emergency cash.

I was about to go look for them when I saw Ran, Sonoko, and Conan entering the marina. Kogoro wasn't with them.

"What happened? Where's Mouri-san?"

"Well..."

Ran explained what happened at the aquarium. A murder had occurred, so Kogoro had to stay and help, solving the case and catching the culprit. They came ahead so I wouldn't worry.

'Damn god of death, spreading death here too.'

I looked at Conan. Oblivious to my thoughts, he nodded proudly as if to say, 'I handled it, so don't worry.' I wanted to knock some sense into him.
