Good Impression
âŠ.
Keira watched as Ellis walked in and sat down at Table 8 not far away.
Mary watched from afar and immediately lowered her voice, anxiously saying, âSee that man, Keera? The one in Table 8. How is he? He looks alright, doesnât he?â
When Keira saw Maryâs cheeks flush, she remembered Ellisâs arrogance in Oceanion and coughed, saying, âIt doesnât matter what he looks like. Personality is key.â
Mary immediately responded with tension. âHis personality is fine too. I went to a gathering before and faced some difficulties; he helped meâŠâ
Her earnest justification made Keira immediately realize something and asked, âDo you like him?â
This past month, as Keera, she had come into frequent contact with Mary and had long noticed that this young lady was sharp-tongued but soft-hearted.
Maryâs ears turned red at this, and she said, âNo, how could I be worthy of liking him? Itâs just a blind date arranged by the family. I came to see if thereâs any connection!â
This stubborn facadeâŠ
Keira understood and smiled. âYes, right, itâs just a blind date. Why donât you go over there now? Donât keep him waiting.â
Mary stood up awkwardly and walked over to Table 8, still adding a line to Keira. âIâm just going through the motions for my family.â
Keira shook her head in resignation at this.
She happened to have her back to Ellis, so he hadnât noticed her presence.
It wasnât until Mary circumvented the area that she approached Ellis.
Not knowing what to do with her hands and feet, Mary coughed and stood awkwardly next to Ellis. Then she started, âMr. Olsen, hello, Iâm Mary Davis.â
Ellis raised an eyebrow, nodding toward the chair opposite him as a sign for her to sit down, and then he eyed her seriously.
His gaze made Mary extremely nervous, and she couldnât help but lower her head to inspect herself, worrying about whether anything was amiss. While she was anxiously unsettled, she heard Ellis say mockingly, âSo this is what you look like!â
Mary was stunned. âYou know me?â
âHeard of you,â Ellis said indifferently. âI donât think much of your family background, but I was curious to see what a foolish woman like you would look like. As expected, youâre just a vase with appearance.â
Mary was dumbfounded.
She frowned, and her fingers, hidden under the table, clenched tightly as a sudden pang hit her in the chest.
She took a deep breath, looking at Ellis with incomprehension. âMr. Olsen, is there some kind of misunderstanding between us?â
âNo.â Ellis blinked.
He wasnât familiar with Mary; however, during the recent period of inquiring about âKeeraâ, he had heard too many ridiculous moves.
Maryâs own best friend was love-struck, but she didnât stop Keera. She went as far as using her own familyâs company to vie for a favor?
Ellis had always despised foolish, unprincipled people.
Maryâs actions had struck a nerve with him.
Therefore, in addition to his dissatisfaction with âKeeraâ, he also felt some resentment toward Mary, Keeraâs best friend.
How could he, Ellis, have such an idiotic cousin?!
Correct.
The DNA test results had been out for a while, confirming that Keera was indeed his cousin.
But Ellis didnât want to acknowledge someone so foolish; thus, he kept it under wraps.
Today, upon hearing that his blind date was Mary, he couldnât help but come over out of curiosityâŠ
At this thought, he stood up abruptly. âYouâre not suitable for me. Iâll pick up the tab for this meal; farewell.â
With that, he left straight away.
Mary still sat there, utterly baffled.
Indeed, she had a good impression of Ellis.
The Davis family was also unsettled, and her status within was quite awkward. At every gathering, she was always caught between high and low and was often bullied.
Ellis had saved her, and she knew that although he was called the devil in Clance, he was a man of principles and loyalty.
At each gathering, she would hide in a corner, secretly gazing at this man.
Her crush was well concealedâŠ
She never imagined sheâd get a chance to have a blind date with him. Her feelings were very complex when she came here, which was why she called Keera over to help her calm down.
But what did he just say?
âI just wanted to see what such a foolish woman looked like. As I suspected, sheâs nothing but an empty-headed beauty, a vase with nothing but her looks.â
Tears welled up in Maryâs eyes.
She was attractive but was always undervalued at home. No matter how capable or how much she contributed to the family business, the elders still treated her as nothing but a decorative piece.
Even this opportunity to have a blind date with Ellis was only because the elders felt she was pretty enough to catch his eyeâŠ
She was humiliated by her family and now mocked by Ellis as well.
She clenched her fingers tightly, and tears of shame welled up in her eyes.
But she immediately bit her lip hard and wiped the tear from the corner of her eye with a tissue before standing up as if nothing had happened.
Keera sensed something was wrong and hurried over, âWhat happened?â
âItâs nothing.â
Mary clenched her fists. âHe didnât like me.â
âThatâs his loss,â Keera immediately consoled her. âYouâre beautiful, kind, and smart. Heâs simply blind.â
Mary took a deep breath. âYeah, Keera, letâs go. I have to report back.â
ââŠOkay.â
Mary drove the car herself and took Keera back home. As they were about to part, Mary seemed to have recovered, smiling as she said, âThe day after tomorrow, the lawsuit will definitely reach the company.â
âOkay.â
Keera looked at her seriously, âMary, thank you. If you have any trouble, remember to tell me.â
âI know.â
Mary waved her hand and started the car. On her way home, she took out her phone and called her financial advisor. âIs the twenty million I asked you to withdraw a while ago ready?â
âItâs ready, Miss Davis. Itâs the dowry your family gave you. Are you sure you want to use it now?â
Mary looked at the road ahead. âYes.â
After all, Keera had been a housewife for a few years; she didnât understand that decisions within a family company like theirs couldnât be made by one person alone.
Since she was in charge of the new energy research and development, it was possible to offer her a cooperation agreement and to hold Howardâs company accountable as well.
But it seemed that Keera hadnât fully thought through the subsequent matters.
After the divorce from Howard, all the debt would fall on her shoulders. Where would Keera find twenty million?!
She couldnât really let Keera end up on the streets with Amy, could she?
Meanwhile.
Ellis also returned to the Olsen family and entered his study, where he couldnât help but say, âSo that Mary Davis was her. I remember she was always quietly sitting in the corner at every gathering. Her face is unforgettable.â
Ellis had always remembered her.
Although Mary was quiet and unobtrusive, her face conformed exactly to his aesthetic preferences: bright features with a sense of peace and harmony â the type he very much liked.
Even when his family told him it was time to marry and have children, the first image that came to his mind was her, butâŠ
Ellis shook his head, âAppearances can be deceiving. She has such a face, but she has wasted her intelligence. What a pity.â
Hearing this, his secretary asked, âDo I continue to update you on Miss Keeraâs affairs?â
Ellis now felt a headache whenever he heard those two words.
He couldnât resist complaining, âHow can there be such a foolish woman in the world?â
The secretary didnât dare to speak.
After working for the Olsen family for so many years, he understood their personalities all too well.
The Olsen family always covered for their own!
They could criticize their own cousin, but nobody else could!
Sure enough, Ellis went on. âKeep an eye on her. Donât let her be completely taken advantage of. Sheâs my cousin, and even if sheâs that stupid, at least make sure she can live a comfortable life!â
