Adultery
Keira never knew that an embrace could be so warm, bestowing a sense of security in oneâs heart.
âŠ.
At the moment of the hug, she even felt as though her hollow heart had been filled.
Even women who were always strong and independent sometimes needed consolation and companionship.
She rested her head on his shoulder.
The two quietly leaned on each other.
Lewisâs deep voice reached her ears. âKeira, is that you?â
His voice carried uncertainty.
Keira sighed inwardly, ready to confirm her identity when suddenly a commotion erupted from the doorway.
The nanny she hired was shouting, âWhat are you doing? This is the South residence. How can you trespass like this?â
Then came Howardâs motherâs loud and aggressive voice. âWhat South residence? Who are you? Whereâs Keera? Youâre blocking us from entering. Is she inside fooling around with some other man?â
Howard also rebuked, âGet out of the way! Iâm Keeraâs husband, and Iâm here to settle the score with her!â
How could a single nanny fend off these two hooligans?
The sound of footsteps drew closer, and Keira hurriedly pushed Lewis away, pointing to a room on the first floor where the nanny took Amy to play.
Lewisâs gaze grew deeper, but he didnât move.
Keira immediately clasped her hands together in a pleading gesture.
Her eyes were sharp with no trace of weakness from just moments ago!
These were clearly Keiraâs eyes!
Lewis looked stunned for a moment.
Seeing he wasnât moving, Keira quickly grabbed his arm and pushed him into the small bedroom on the first floor.
Just after she closed the door, Howard and his mother stormed in with a formidable presence.
As soon as they entered, Howardâs motherâs gaze fell on her. âKeera, whatâs this about a nanny? Where did you get the money to hire a nanny?!â
Keira looked at her. âThat seems to be none of your business anymore, doesnât it?â
Howardâs mother became furious. âHow is it not my business? When you divorced Howard, he left with nothing! Did you hide some money? Or did it come from your parents?â
Upon hearing this, Keira scoffed. âBefore the divorce, Howard should have had his lawyer clarify how much property I had, right? What, do you regret it now? Considering today is the first day since the divorce, I can compromise. Otherwise, all assets would have gone to Howard, and I would only take Amy and be without a penny.â
Her collaboration with Davis Corporation and Olsen Group hadnât been made public yet.
Upon hearing this, Howardâs mother immediately said, âDonât get ahead of yourself! The twenty million debt is from your parentsâ company. Donât think you can leave it to Howard!â
She paused slightly, realizing something. âI get it now. You must have sold your bridal jewelry, right? Keera, you still have debts, and the court will make its judgment tomorrow. Better save whatever money you have rather than spend it. You hired a nanny, but why donât you just do the household work yourself? The money for hiring a nanny would be better spent on buying me some health supplements!â
During the past month, Keira had been compliant with her, and since it was inconvenient to take money from her own account to avoid attracting attention, Mary had given her several tens of thousands to get by.
With that money, Keira bought Howardâs mother a variety of nutritional products and a lot of clothes.
Howardâs mother was practically spoiled by her like an Empress Dowager! Keira looked at her shameless demeanor and responded indifferently, âSince weâre already divorced, youâre no longer my mother-in-law. How I live my life going forward is none of your concern.â
âYou!â Howardâs mother extended her finger. âI did this for your own good. Youâre truly ungrateful!â
Seeing that she wanted to say more, Keira cut off her endless chatter. âWhat did you come here for today?â
Howard said, âYou did that on purpose today at the courthouse, didnât you? You made us lose so much face. Cindy went home with stomach pains, and I want you to go and apologize to her right now!â
Keira looked at him as if he were a fool, feeling like the whole world had become surreal. How on earth did Keera go blind and marry such an unreasonable man?!
She lowered her gaze. âHoward, do you think weâre still husband and wife? Why should I still listen to you?â
Howard was stunned. Keira then said indifferently, âAfter the divorce, we have nothing to do with each other anymore.â
Howard suddenly stepped forward, grabbing her wrist. âKeera, what do you mean by this? Weâre just divorced, and you canât wait to cut ties with me. Do you have another man already?â
His words made Keira chuckle. âHoward, the one who actually has someone else is you. Iâve been at home taking care of our children and your mother, never stepping out of line!â
Howard was speechless. Keira then turned to look at Howardâs mother. âAnd you, Iâve always prided myself on being a dutiful daughter-in-law to you. Why did you insist on Howard divorcing me?â
Howardâs mother curled her lips. âTaking care of your mother-in-law is what any daughter-in-law should do. Even if it werenât you, any woman Howard marries would treat me well. Do you think you deserve credit? Not being able to give birth to a son is your biggest failure!â
Keiraâs lips curved slightly. âAny daughter-in-law can take good care of her mother-in-law?â
Howardâs mother tilted her chin up. âOf course, Cindy will only treat me better than you! She was always asking warmly about my well-being, and sheâll take care of me even better than you in the future!â
âIs that so?â Keira didnât argue.
Howard dragged her toward the door. âStop talking nonsense. I order you to come with me right now to apologize to Cindy. Moreover, I want you to take care of her for a while until the baby settles down, or else I wonât let you off!â
Keira pushed him away forcefully. âLet go of me!â
From inside, the sound of Amy crying came out, âMommyâŠâ But then it seemed like someone had soothed her.
Upon hearing this sound, Howardâs expression changed drastically. âWell, well, Keera, you really did hide someone! That explains why you were so eager to get divorced! Youâve already found someone else!â
Howardâs mother also charged over. âYou shameless wretch. You must have found your lover during your marriage. Howard, go open the door for me now. I want to see what kind of bastard is willing to take a divorcee like her, with baggage in tow!â
After saying that, Howardâs mother grabbed Keiraâs arm. âHoward, go open the door! Catch him and make that man compensate us, otherwise, we wonât let this go today!â
Hearing this, Howard didnât wait for his mother to tell him what to do; he rushed to the door and was about to kick it in.
But the door opened from inside. Immediately, a tall and upright man stepped out.
When Howard and his mother saw him, they were dumbfounded. âMr. Horton? What are you doing here?!â
