Chapter 319
Keira glanced at Lewis, her eyebrows raising as she said, âShe claims she wants to enter into a marriage alliance with Mr. Lewis Horton.â
âŠ.
Lewis immediately looked at Victoria with disdain and said firmly, âThatâs impossible!â
Christina directed her scrutinizing gaze at Lewis, sizing him up from head to toe, and upon seeing his casual outfit, she couldnât help but curl her lip dismissively. âKeera, I know youâre divorced. Is this your new gigolo? I really donât know where this confidence comes from⊠Do you even understand what a powerful family marriage alliance is?â
Mrs. Jones then hesitated. âI havenât heard about it eitherâŠâ
Christina immediately said, âThe alliance between the Horton and Olsen families had been underway for many years, but it was discontinued because Mr. Horton got married. However, now that Mr. Hortonâs wife has passed away, the talks of marriage between the Horton and Olsen families have been brought up again!â
She turned to Victoria and said, âMy sister is currently the only unwed daughter of the Olsen family, so sheâs the only candidate. Whatâs so impossible about that?â
Victoria demurely lowered her head and said, âSister, this matter hasnât yet been announced publiclyâŠâ
âBut itâs already a done deal!â
Christina turned to Mrs. Jones. âMy sister is set to be the future hostess of the Horton family. Are you sure you still want to testify for them?â
Mrs. Jones remained silent.
Seeing this, Christina then turned to Keira. âSee? Now thereâs no witness, so donât make a scene here. This daycare is Clanceâs best. There canât possibly be any cases of teachers abusing children!â
Keira furrowed her brows.
Just as she was about to say something, Mrs. Jonesâs voice rang out again. âWho says there are no witnesses? My son is a witness, and many other children in their class saw it tooâŠâ
Keira was slightly surprised and looked toward Mrs. Jones again.
Mrs. Jones smiled at her and then, holding Brandonâs hand, approached the police. âMy son can cooperate with the investigation.â
Christinaâs eyes widened in shock. âMrs. Jones, have you lost your mind? Do you know what kind of consequences your meddling could bring? Does your husband agree with you doing this?â
But Mrs. Jones merely glanced at her nonchalantly and said, âIâm well aware of what Iâm doing.â
Christina was dumbfounded.
Without further ado, Mrs. Jones had her son speak privately with the police to give his statement.
Seeing this, the teacherâs legs went weakâŠ
Keira was also taken aback by Mrs. Jonesâs sense of justice.
She stared at Mrs. Jones in astonishment, only to have Mrs. Jones suddenly turn to her and ask, âDo you really not remember me?â
Keira was perplexed.
Mrs. Jones chuckled and said, âFour years ago, in the rivers of Oceanion, we went scuba diving togetherâŠâ
Upon hearing this, Keira gradually recalled. âYou were the one⊠who, in order to dive deeper, tied a rock to yourself?â
Mrs. Jones immediately nodded. âYes, thatâs me!â
Lewis, not one to engage in much conversation with other women, couldnât help but interject. âA rock?â
Mrs. Jones nodded and explained, âI always had trouble diving down, so I came up with a method of tying a rock to my back, and down I went â it worked superbly! However, when I tried to come back up, I found that I couldnât, and with the rock dragging me, I kept sinking deeper⊠If this lady hadnât rescued me, the river would have been my grave.â
Lewis was speechless.
He had only just spoken out of shock to understand this!
Who in their right mind scuba dives with a rock tied to them?
Mrs. Jones took Keiraâs hand. âThe day you saved me, you didnât even leave your name. Iâve always wanted to thank you but couldnât find you. I never expected to run into you here in Clance!â
Keira didnât take this matter to heart.
But Lewis frowned and looked at Keira, chiding her in a low voice, âThe situation was dangerous at that time. Did you realize that going to rescue her was also very dangerous?!â
His voice carried a sense of relief mixed with fear.
All the divers were at the sea bottom, and Mrs. Jones, weighed down by a large rock, couldnât ascend, which was enough to indicate how deep she had gone!
In such a situation, Keira dared to rescue her. Was she not concerned for her own life?
Mrs. Jones also looked at her with gratitude, âYes, the situation was perilous. By coming to rescue me, you tied your life to mineâŠâ
Her words were filled with emotion.
Seeing this, Keira coughed and said, âWell, could it be that I had no choice but to rescue her?â
Lewis and Mrs. Jones were both slightly taken aback.
Keira then said, âAt that time, there was only me and her on the beach with no instructor. If she sank with that rock, and the police came to investigate, I might not be able to clear my nameâŠâ
Lewis was speechless.
Mrs. Jones didnât know what to say.
Keiraâs words were light-hearted, but everyone understood that she was just making a small joke to ease Lewisâs tension and fear.
The police finished questioning the boy soon. Brandon was articulate, and his logic was sound. Coupled with Amyâs testimony, the police confirmed the teacherâs abuse of children and took her away immediately.
Before she left, the teacher looked at Christina. âMiss Olsen, Miss Olsen, you must save meâŠâ
Christina glared at Mrs. Jones, her chest heaving with anger.
Unfortunately, this was a public place, and she still remembered last time she was threatened by Keera. As an adopted daughter, she couldnât be too outrageous, so in the end, she could only say through clenched teeth, âMrs. Jones, just wait for your cooperation with the Horton family to be canceled!â
With that, she pulled Victoria and left.
Mrs. Jones smiled, âHow could the Horton familyâs cooperation depend on the words of one individual?â Though she said this, her eyes were worried.
The fact was that her husbandâs cooperation with the Horton family was still in the negotiation phase.
As the Horton family was expanding into Clance, they needed channels and were selecting partners from among these smaller families; her husband had always wanted to secure this opportunity.
Even if Victoria wouldnât marry Mr. Horton, it was said that Mr. Horton had a deep relationship with the Olsen family. If Christina and Victoria said a few words, they might actually sabotage her husbandâs prospects.
After all, there were many potential partners for the Horton family to choose from, and their family was just one of them.
Mrs. Jones thought this to herself, but her face still maintained ease. âDonât worry, this will not affect me.â
Keira nodded. âDonât worry. There will definitely be no impact.â
Mrs. Jones smiled. âI know. Well, now that Amy is fine, Iâll take Brandon home. Weâll make plans to meet some other time.â
Leaving these words behind, she took her sonâs hand and turned to leave.
The moment she turned, the smile on her face seemed a bit forced, and her eyes revealed concern.
Just then, she suddenly heard Lewisâs voice from behind, âMrs. JonesâŠâ
Mrs. Jones paused slightly, turning back in puzzlement.
Then she saw the man who stood behind Keira coming toward her. âTell your husband to prepare the contract.â
Mrs. Jones was perplexed.
