636 Chapter 635
Keira answered the phone, and Fox chuckled, still using an electronic voice. âYouâre not Rabbit.â
Keira paused slightly and asked in a calm voice, âIf Iâm not, then who is?â
Fox laughed, âYour elder sister Keera is Rabbit. Keira, I never imagined you hadnât died.â
Keiraâs pupils constricted at this revelation. She furrowed her brows. âWhat are you talking about?â
Fox continued, âI was wondering how Rabbit suddenly became so strong. Now it makes sense⊠Hahaha!â
Realizing her cover was blown, Keira retorted angrily, âWas it you who orchestrated the events in Oceanion? Were you behind our kidnapping?â
Fox quickly responded, âWhile Iâve done many bad things, you canât blame me for everything. As for your sisterâs murder⊠I mean, Rabbitâs murder, I have no idea who did it.â
Keira snapped, âIt was the South family! You and my sister are the only ones vying for the heir in Creraâs South family. If not you, then who?â
Fox laughed again, âBelieve what you want. Iâve nothing more to say.â
Keira clenched her jaw, âIf it wasnât you, then who was it?â
Fox chuckled, âDo you believe me now?â
Keira analyzed the situation calmly. âIf it were you, your target would have been my sister, not me. But the person in Oceanion clearly wanted to kill me!â Keera was just collateral damage!
Fox replied, âYouâre quite smart. Youâre catching on quickly. Since you believe me, we can talk. Keira, letâs meet.â
Keiraâs eyes widened, âYouâre willing to meet me?â
âOf course, why not?â Fox laughed. âThough weâre opponents, weâre not mortal enemies! Besides, you may not know the relationship between us.â
Keira was taken aback, âOur relationship?â
âLetâs discuss it when we meet. Iâll be at the Olsen residence.â
At the mention of the âOlsen residence,â Keiraâs eyes widened further.
Fox laughed again. âBy the way, your father has woken up.â
A chill ran down Keiraâs spine, âWhat are you planning?â
Fox replied, âThe house is filled with your fatherâs people. What could I possibly do? Just giving you a friendly heads-up⊠Hurry back and join me.â
Keira hung up and rushed outside. As she reached the yard of the Special Division, she heard an argument.
Vincent was holding back Brian, trying to explain. âDeputy Director Dawson, my dad hasnât stepped down yet for good reasons; itâs not what you think.â
Brian sneered, âWhat am I supposed to think? He can stay as long as he wants. Heâs eighty; Iâm only fifty. I can wait. Worst case, Iâll retire as soon as I take office!â
He added sarcastically, âAt least I wonât be two-faced, talking about promoting new leaders while blocking their paths.â
Vincentâs face reddened, âMy dad isnât like thatâŠâ
But Brian cut him off and headed for his office. Vincent followed, but Brian shut the door on him. As Vincent knocked, Brian said, âI just hurt my back. Are you expecting me to argue with you in pain?â
Vincent paused, looking awkward. After a long moment, he sighed. âMy dad doesnât plan to pass the Special Division to me; Iâm just not capable enough. How can I lead the Special Division?â
Squeak!
Brian opened the door, looking at Vincent darkly, âWhat do you mean? Iâm also incapable now. Should I step down for someone better? Just tell me who the old man favors. Thereâs no need for all this subterfuge!â
Vincent explained awkwardly, âThatâs not what I meant. I mean, Iâve always been inadequate, and no one in the Special Division respects me. But youâre different. Youâve always been respected here.â
Brian scoffed, âNo need for flattery. âWhatâs the point of being strong when youâre young if you canât maintain it? Maybe the old man is setting me up for failure now that Iâm older and not as physically capable. Aha, is this the plan? Let me shine in youth and falter in old age, setting me up for later failure. Is that it?â
Vincent took a deep breath, âI swear, my dad has no such thoughts!â
âWhatâs the use of your oath?â Brian retorted. âThen why wonât the old man retire?â
Vincent couldnât answer, his silence speaking volumes. He didnât know the answer.
Brian sneered and slammed the door shut.
Keira passed by and glanced at Vincent, who gave a wry smile, âKeera, believe me. My father doesnât have any ill intentions.â
