730 Chapter 729
The phone rang only once before Marisaâs voice came through.
She sounded concerned. âOliver, whatâs going on? Did you finish handling your things?â
Oliver sighed with relief, replying, âYeah, itâs done. You need to come pick me up.â
âPick you up? What happened? How did it go?â Marisaâs voice was tense with worry.
Oliver was relieved.
Though he had sounded confident when Jake and Melissa grilled him earlier, he hadnât been so sure.
But hearing Marisaâs worry now put him at ease.
In a low voice, Oliver explained, âLewis kicked me out of the house. But donât worry, Marisa, weâll bounce back!â
âWhat?! Kicked you out? Thatâs outrageous! When you say âbounce back,â you have a plan, right? Whatâs your next move?â
âOf course. I havenât spent all these years in business for nothing. Iâve got connections and resources. Just give me the money, and weâll rebuild my empire.â
Marisa paused before asking, âGive you all the money? What money?â
Oliver froze. âThe money Iâve been giving you over the years.â
âOh, that money,â Marisa said. âLewis kicked you out with nothing? Thatâs ridiculous!â
âExactly, itâs beyond unfair.â
âAnd your father? What does he think?â
âStop asking questions. Just come get me. Weâll talk about Dad when weâre together.â
âAlright, hang tight.â
Marisa hung up.
âŠ
In an upscale Clance neighborhood.
Marisa turned to Selena, her face full of worry. âYour dadâs been thrown out of the house. If we pick him up, will it bring trouble to us?â
Selena didnât waste a second. âMom, let me make a few calls and find out whatâs going on.â
She then started calling people.
After a while, Selena came back, looking scared. âMom, I heard Lewis put the word out that anyone doing business with Dad will be cut off from the Horton family. If we take him in, itâs going to have serious consequences.â
Marisaâs face paled. âWhat are we going to do? If we donât pick him up, heâll probably come here himself.â
Selena furrowed her brows. âLooks like we canât stay in this house.â
Marisa paused. âWhat do you mean?â
âMom, start packing.â
âŠ
Outside the Horton residence, the air had a sharp chill.
Shivering in just his shirt, Oliver rubbed his arms and looked again toward the distance. Beside him, Melissa watched him with a mocking smile. âFrom the way Marisa was asking questions earlier, it doesnât seem like she wants to pick you up.â
âShut up! Marisa isnât like that at all!â
Oliver shot back defensively.
Melissa smirked. âThen what is she? Your true love?â
Oliver snorted, pulling out his phone. âMarisaâs house has security cameras. Iâll show you. Sheâs probably already on her way.â
He opened the camera app, eager to prove her wrong.
The screen showed the driveway outside Marisaâs house. A car slowly pulled out, the driver waiting by the gate.
âSee? Sheâs already left!â Oliver triumphantly shoved the phone toward Melissa.
Melissa hesitated as she saw the car, unsure whether sheâd misread the situation.
Was Marisa actually coming to pick him up?
But then Melissa shrugged it off with a laugh.
It didnât matter if she was wrong. If someone else was looking after Oliver, it meant Jake wouldnât have to. That was enough for her.
âLooks like you were wrong!â Oliver sneered. âSheâs on her way, and now you have nothing to say.â
Melissa turned her gaze toward him. âI hope she does pick you up. Just donât come bothering Jake anymore.â
âHeh, donât worry. Even if I were starving, I wouldnât go crawling to you two ungrateful leeches!â
Oliver spat out the words, then shot a glare at Jake. âYou think Lewis will take care of you just because youâre his favorite? Think again! Did he give you my shares when he took them away from me? No, right? Heâs not some charity worker!â
It all made sense now. Lewis had schemed against him, likely with old Mrs. Hortonâs blessing. That was why sheâd evenly split the inheritance, avoiding any drama for Lewis.
As Oliver pieced things together in his head, his expression darkened.
âYou people only care about money!â Oliver raged. âYou donât care about family! Marisa is the only one who truly loves me. Youâll all get whatâs coming!â
Melissa shot back, âLetâs see if Marisa actually takes you in before you keep talking like that.â
Oliver pointed at his phone, his voice dripping with confidence. âMarisaâs already on her way. Youâre just trying to stir things upââ
Before he could finish, the front door of Marisaâs house opened on the screen.
She stepped out with Selena, dragging a few suitcases behind them.
