791 Chapter 790
Keira glanced down at the DNA results, her face showing a flicker of surprise. She looked back at Sean Church, the confusion in her eyes growing.
Sean still had that sad, almost helpless look, and it suddenly put her on high alert. Glancing around the room, she signaled to Erin.
âTake Amy with you,â she said calmly.
Erin looked indignant. She hadnât even managed to enjoy the drama before getting asked to leave again. Just as she was about to protest, Keira added, âI trust only you to keep her safe.â
Erinâs face lit up with a grin. âOh, thatâs different,â she replied, happily picking up Amy. âCome on, Amy, come and have some fun with Auntie Erin.â
As they headed upstairs, Erin coaxed, âI have candy for you!â
Amy shook her head sweetly. âAmy doesnât eat candy. Candy makes your teeth fall out.â
âOh, youâre still young! Even if your teeth fall out, youâll get new ones. Whatâs life worth if you donât enjoy it a little?â Erin said, her voice fading as she disappeared down the hall.
Turning back, Keira gestured for Uncle Olsen to clear the room. He waved, and everyoneâstaff and family members alikeâfiled out until they were alone. Uncle Olsen paused, raising an eyebrow at her.
âDo I need to go too?â
Keira shook her head. âNo, you can stay.â
Suddenly, she was in front of Sean like a ghost, her movements swift and silent. âHey!â Seanâs bodyguard cried, but Lewis had him restrained before he could react. Keira gripped Seanâs arm, taking note of his frail build and lack of muscle.
She felt his pulse. Weak. Hardly any strength. This man didnât seem to have a fighterâs training, either.
âYouâre not Amyâs father,â she said, eyes narrowing. âWho are you, really?â
Sean let out a soft chuckle, his face lighting up in a way that momentarily made the dim room seem almost bright. Twilight had settled, casting a dark hue, yet his mischievous smile brought a strange glimmer to the room.
His expression only made Keira more guarded. Tightening her hold on his arm, she demanded again, âSpeak. Who are you?â
Sean smiled, unfazed by her grip. âA moment ago, you were saying you wouldnât forgive me. And now, you donât even recognize me?â
âAre you testing me?â Keira asked, her voice sharp.
âSure am,â Sean replied, chuckling. âJust checking if youâre really Keera.â
Keiraâs jaw clenched. âWhy?â
âBecause Iâve been looking for you.â
His gaze met hers, surprisingly earnest. âKeira, back in Oceanion, they said youâd died. And yet here I find Lewis Horton, who was supposedly heartbroken over you, clinging to Clance with no intention of ever leaving. So I came to see for myself just who could be holding him here. And here you are, alive. Youâre alive!â Seanâs voice cracked, and he suddenly grasped her arm with his other hand. âDo you know what this means to me, Keira? If youâd died, do you have any idea what that wouldâve done to me?â
Keira studied him, taken aback. There was no sign of pretense
ButâŠ
âWho are you, really?â she asked, a trace of anger slipping into her voice. âI donât know you at all.â
Seanâs expression fell slightly, the playful glint in his eyes gone. âYou donât remember me?â
Keira was dumbfounded.
Lewis, still holding Seanâs guard at bay, frowned, his own wariness growing. Moments ago, Sean had been here for Keera. But now⊠he was after Keira?
No way would he let this stand.
