Angelaâs body trembled upon hearing the words from Yuanâs mouth. Her vision blurred with tears as emotions surged within her. The handsome young man standing before herâher grandson. Someone she hadnât even known existed until this very moment.
Her hands quivered, and her heart clenched painfully in her chest as she tried to process what was happening.
She hadnât heard a word about her eldest daughterâAnna Graceâsince she was sold to a noble family outside the Holy Light Empire. For years, she lived in silent torment, wondering whether her child was still alive... or if she had died somewhere in misery and pain.
And now, not only was her grandson standing before her, but so was her daughterâtwo of them.
Angelaâs gaze fell on the two identical women standing behind Yuan. Their eyes shimmered with tears, staring at her with gentle, emotional expressions that only a daughter could give her mother.
âT-These two... M-My daughters... But how? How did they become two?! This... this should be impossible!â Angela screamed inwardly, utterly overwhelmed.
Despite the shock, her motherâs intuitionâsomething beyond logic or reasonâtold her that they were both her daughters. The similarities in their presence, the emotional resonance between themâit was unmistakable. She didnât understand how it was possible, but she knew.
"H-How is this possible? How did you two... separate? It should be impossible! Anna and Graceâmy beautiful daughters...!" Angela muttered in disbelief, her voice trembling with emotion and wonder.
Anna and Grace slowly walked over to her bedside. With bittersweet smiles, they knelt beside her and gently held her hands.
"A lot has happened, Mother... I honestly donât know where to begin," Anna whispered softly, her voice laced with both pain and peace. Her memories flashed like lightningâsome cruel, some tender.
Angela met her daughterâs gaze with fierce determination despite her weakened body. "Start from the beginning. I want to know everything."
Anna nodded slowly, then began recounting what had happened to her after she was sold offâhow she suffered, how she survived, and how Grace eventually separated from her to become her own person.
Angela listened in silence, tears falling down her cheeks. With every word, her sorrow and fury deepenedânot at her daughters, but at the man who had once stood beside her as a husband. The one who betrayed everything sacred by selling his own child for status and power.
He had lost himself to ambition. He had failed not only as a father... but as a human being.
Angela clenched her blanket tightly in her hands. Rage bubbled within her chestânot just toward him, but toward herself.
âIf only Iâd resisted harder... if only Iâd done more... maybe none of this would have happened...â
As Anna gently finished her tale, she gave a soft smile and looked at Yuan and Lily. "Even though we suffered, something beautiful came from it all. Our childrenâthey brought warmth and purpose into our lives."
Then she turned to her mother with a loving smile.
"Since Yuan has already introduced himself, allow me to introduce your granddaughter."
Anna motioned toward the young girl standing behind her. "Come, Lily. Come meet your grandmother."
Lily hesitated for a moment before stepping forward. Anna gently pulled her onto her lap, brushing a few strands of hair from her daughterâs face.
"This is Lily," Anna said proudly. "Sheâs older than Yuan by a few years. Cold and fierceâsheâs inherited Graceâs strength and determination."
Angela stared at Lily for a moment, then gently reached out a trembling hand to touch her granddaughterâs cheek.
The moment her fingers brushed against Lilyâs skin, a soft sob escaped her lips.
"Y-Youâre... so beautiful... just like your mothers..."
Tears streamed freely down Angelaâs face now, as she finally embraced the truth she had waited so long for: her daughters were alive. She had a grandson and a granddaughter. And they were all hereâsafe and sound.
"Hi Grandma, how are you?" Lily asked shyly, her voice soft and innocent as she sat on her motherâs lap. Her curious eyes studied Angelaâs face, the face of a grandmother she had never met before today.
Angelaâs expression softened even more at the sound of Lilyâs voice. "As you can see, Iâm not doing great..." she replied gently, her voice faint and a little hoarse, "...but now that you all are here, I feel a lot better."
She smiledâone of genuine warmth and emotion, something that had been absent from her life for many years.
Angela had been battling deep depression for a long time. The pain of losing her daughters, of not knowing whether they were alive or dead, had slowly consumed her from the inside. Her body had weakened over the years, and her magical powers had diminished. She, who was once known as a prodigy mage, had fallen from graceâher Mage Rank dropping by several levels as her will to live quietly withered away.
But today... for the first time in years, she felt alive again. The joy of reuniting with her daughters and meeting her grandchildren breathed new life into her fragile body.
For now, she wasnât the frail, forgotten matriarch of the Blank Clanâshe was a mother and a grandmother once more. And the look in her eyes spoke of hopeâof beginnings instead of endings.
Meanwhile, somewhere else in the Blank Clanâs estate...
Inside a lavish study, a middle-aged man with a stern face was engaged in a conversation through a magical communication device. His eyes were sharp, his tone filled with ambition.
"Donât worry, Lord Drake. Once my daughter returns home, Iâll arrange an engagement meeting with your eldest son," Nicolas Blank said, a smug grin curling on his lips.
From the other end of the device, a deep voice responded immediately.
[Inform me the moment she returns. This alliance will bring our clans closer. Once united, we can crush the other clansâone by one.]
"Exactly. Once my daughter marries into your family, the boundary between our clans will vanish completely. Weâll be one and the same." Nicolas chuckled darkly, his eyes gleaming with pride. "Hahaha!"
Just then, the door creaked open, and a clan member stepped inside.
Nicolasâs smile vanished instantly, replaced by a furious scowl. "Who gave you permission to enter without notifying me?!" he snapped, slamming his palm on the desk as a threatening aura surged from his body.
The clan member immediately dropped to his knees. "Please forgive me, Lord Nicolas! I beg your pardon! I came to inform you that Lady Aisha has returned to the clanâjust a moment ago!"
Nicolas froze. Then, slowly, his expression shifted from rage to wicked delight.
"Hahaha! Did you hear that, Lord Drake? My daughter has returned! You may bring your son to our estate tomorrow. Weâll make the engagement official!"
[Wonderful! It seems even the gods wish for this union to happen! Hahaha!] Laughter erupted from the communication device once more before the line went silent.
Once the call ended, Nicolas turned his cold gaze back to the man still kneeling on the floor.
"Since this is your first offense, Iâll pardon you this time," Nicolas said sternly. "But if it happens again, you wonât be let off so easily."
"I understand! Thank you, Clan Head! I will never repeat it again!" the man cried out, bowing until his forehead touched the floor.
"Good. Now go and inform my... ungrateful daughter," Nicolas said, his eyes narrowing. "Tell her that tomorrow, the Drake Clan will arrive to make her engagement with Lord Drakeâs eldest son official. Tell her to be ready."
"Yes, Clan Head! Iâll inform her immediately!" the clan member said, rising and rushing out of the room without another word.
"I hope she doesnât make a scene before the Drake Clan. If she does, Iâll have no choice but to put a slave seal on her and force her into this marriage. I definitely canât afford to screw this up... This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to strengthen the Blank Clan." Nicolas muttered, his tone laced with cold determination and ambition as he stared at the closed door.
Once the clan member left, he placed the magical communication device back on its shelf before turning around and exiting the room.
He knew his daughter all too wellâstubborn, independent, and completely disobedient. There was no chance she would just accept this arrangement without protest. Which is why, despite sending a message through a servant, he planned to confront her personally. He was fully prepared to force her into submission, if necessary.
This alliance with the Drake Clan was critical. If it collapsed, not only would they lose this rare chance to grow stronger, but the consequences would be catastrophic. The Drake Clan could very well become a powerful enemy. And Nicolas knew... the Blank Clan could not afford to make an enemy out of them.
Meanwhile, inside Angelaâs room, the mood was vastly different.
Anna and Grace were introducing everyone to Angela, who remained seated on her bed, her weak body now glowing faintly with happiness. One by one, they introduced the rest of Yuanâs family, including Miss Zara, Little Zoe, and even Selvarielâdespite her complicated status as a captive angel.
Angela blinked several times as she looked at the group, her gaze finally falling on Yuan once again.
"I still canât believe this... My grandson has so many wives... This is unbelievable!" she muttered, her eyes wide with astonishment, flickering between each of the stunning women present.
"I had the same reaction when I first saw them," Aisha said with a faint smile, nodding slightly. "But Iâve gotten used to it now."
âYou donât know yet, Mother... but Anna and Grace are also his women,â Aisha thought, keeping her smile polite. âAnd Iâm planning to become one too... I wonder what kind of expression youâll have when you find out the truth.â
Despite the swirling thoughts in her mind, Aisha smiled as she watched her mother, who looked more alive now than she had in years.
Angela patted the seat next to her, looking at Yuan.
"Come, sit beside your grandmother."
Yuan immediately obeyed, walking over and gently sitting beside her. As soon as he did, Angela pulled him into a warm, affectionate embrace. Yuan smiled and returned the hug, feeling the warmth of his grandmother for the very first time.
"With such a handsome face, itâs no surprise that youâve attracted so many women," Angela said, holding his face between her hands. "Iâm proud of you, my dear. Youâre a real man."
"Iâll take that as a compliment." Yuan chuckled softly, smiling warmly back at her.
Off to the side, Aisha watched the scene with a dazed look, her eyes growing moist as her heart filled with happiness.
âSheâs finally smiling again... I havenât seen that expression on her face in so long. It really was the right decision to bring them here. I hope she continues to recover... and becomes the strong woman she used to be,â Aisha thought, her heart soft with emotion.
Knock! Knock!
A sudden knock at the door pulled everyoneâs attention.
"You may come inside," Aisha said in a firm tone, standing up slightly straighter as her eyes shifted toward the door, curious who could be visiting now.
A young man entered the room and immediately bowed his head in a respectful manner.
"Lady Aisha, the Clan Head has instructed me to inform you that the Drake Clan will be arriving at the estate tomorrow to formalize your engagement with Young Master Denise," the young man announced in a respectful tone, keeping his head bowed low.
"And... he also asked me to tell you that you should prepare yourself to welcome them properly," he added hesitantly, glancing nervously at Aisha.
"Since Iâve delivered the message, I shall now take my leave." Without waiting for a response, the young man bowed again and quickly exited the room, not daring to linger in the tense atmosphere.
The moment the door shut behind him, the air in the room shifted. A sharp silence fell over everyone present, the weight of the message sinking in.
Angelaâs hands clenched into fists, her entire body trembling with fury as she gritted her teeth.
"So that bastard is trying to sell off Aisha too now? That power-hungry, pathetic fool...!" Angela hissed, her voice filled with venom. "If I were still healthy, I wouldâve personally slit his damn throat!"
Her eyes, once kind and soft just moments ago, now burned with deep-seated rage and disgustâdisgust for the man who was once her husband but had long since become a stranger to her heart.
Aisha, however, remained calm, her expression cold and unwavering.
"Donât worry, Mother," she said firmly, her voice carrying a heavy strength. "I will not marry some arrogant fool. And I certainly wonât entertain a family of lustful degenerates who only seek power through arranged marriages."
Her tone left no room for doubtâAisha had made up her mind, and nothing, not even her fatherâs schemes, would sway her.
Her eyes turned to Yuan, and a subtle warmth flickered in them for a brief moment. She already had someone she cared forâsomeone she had chosen for herself. No one else could change that.
Angela looked at her daughter, then at Yuan, and her rage began to simmer into something elseâpride. Despite everything, her daughter stood tall, defiant, and free.
"Youâre my daughter, through and through," Angela whispered, her voice calmer now, though still laced with pain. "Donât let them chain you like they tried with Anna and Grace. Weâve all suffered enough."
"I wonât," Aisha said with a smile, her eyes glowing with determination. "Not now, not ever."
