“Hello,” came a raspy male voice, heavy with exhaustion, as if he hadn’t rested well, his throat stuffed with cotton, “why didn’t you tell me.”

“What didn’t I tell you about,” Rong Yan pulled up a chair and glanced around at the gossip-hungry crowd before awkwardly making her way to a corner, “are you talking about the online stuff?”

Li Shengxiao had just finished a treatment session, drenched in sweat, his dark hair sticking to his forehead in clumps, his usually plump lips now pale as snow, but his eyes remained, as always, reserved and profound.

“Yeah, why didn’t you tell me.”

He had learned about it from Gu Ming, who had taken to the internet and seen the overwhelming discussions about her.

Rong Yan’s heart suddenly became eerily calm, as though someone had propped up the sky behind her so she didn’t have to worry about it falling down. She pursed her red lips, “Because it all happened so suddenly. I was just returning from shopping at the mall with Mrs. Lin and Little Baby when I received a call from Estelle. Only then I found out she had made another scene at the company entrance. I’ve been busy dealing with it and forgot to tell you.”

A frown creased Li Shengxiao’s brow, dissatisfied with the words ‘forgot’ that she used.

Then he heard the soft, tender voice of the little woman on the phone, “I was planning to talk to you over a video call tonight after I am done with everything. I didn’t expect you to find out first.”

Everyone in the meeting room kept their eyes on their own work, yet their ears pricked up, wishing they could get closer to Rong Yan’s phone to hear what was being said on the other end.

It turned out that Mr. Li, even while on a business trip, liked to video chat with his girlfriend.

The efficient businesswoman Estelle smiled and interjected, “It won’t take that long, stay another hour and then head back. Leave the rest to us.”

The person on the other end of the phone clearly heard her voice and immediately responded, “I’ll have the driver wait for you at KT’s entrance in an hour. Go back and rest well, take a bath, and I’ll wait for your call.”

Rong Yan could hear the weariness in his voice that he couldn’t hide and, not wanting to burden him further, she considerately said, “You should take a rest too. I’ll message you when I get back.”

She hung up the phone and returned to her original spot, saying to Estelle, “Let’s continue, Estelle.”

Seeing Rong Yan’s eagerness to leave, Estelle immediately clapped her hands and summoned the others who were still pretending to be ‘diligent,’ “Alright, everyone, put down your work. We’ll have a brief meeting and arrange the next steps.”

Taking the cue, the others abandoned their non-urgent tasks and returned to their seats, each pulling out their laptop computers.

Estelle stood at the head of the meeting table, turned on the projector, and began the briefing, “The situation we’re in now is…”
