Chapter 1706: Chapter 1707: Playing the Sentimental Card
Rong Yan casually placed her hand on the steering wheel and found the car keys, "Itās not your business, Mr. Wang is busy, and the companyās artists arenāt managed by you anyway."
"But after all, she is an artist from our company. I apologize for Jian Yao messing around with you in the store."
"I didnāt take it to heart."
"Then..."
Rong Yan knew what she wanted to ask and didnāt circle around three or four times before saying it, "You called about the awards dinner tonight, right?"
Wang Ying gave a bitter laugh, "I knew I couldnāt hide it from you."
"Are you really not coming to the awards ceremony tonight? The organizers have already announced that you would attend. If you suddenly donāt show up, itās hard for them to explain to the media. You know, ever since you transitioned to working behind the scenes, you havenāt appeared publicly for a long time. When your fans heard you would attend, they were excited. Can you show up for them?"
Becoming a vice president indeed requires being smarter than ordinary staff. She didnāt say much else but played the emotional card directly.
Rong Yanās beautiful eyes flickered slightly, but she wasnāt much affected, "Iāll do a live stream to apologize to them later."
"A live stream canāt make them as happy as seeing you in person." Wang Ying realized she was too anxious and softened her tone, "This time itās our mistake. I apologize on their behalf. They had no choice; the circumstances were beyond them. Behind Chu Xi is the Chu Family. Weāre just ordinary people with no background or backing. How dare we provoke such a rich young lady..."
"At least you could have told me directly, instead of trying to deceive me to make the young lady happy." Rong Yan bluntly called out her attempt to dodge responsibility, "Mr. Wang, I believe Iāve done nothing wrong in our cooperation with Lemon Entertainment. Everyone collaborates on the principles of fairness, justice, and transparency, benefiting mutually. I appreciate your initial efforts to persuade the companyās higher-ups for me. But we all know how the cooperation was ultimately reached. I donāt want to make it awkward for anyone, with the precondition that you considered if it would be awkward for me when making decisions. Besides, attending an awards ceremony that canāt even present a fair award has no meaning."
She was aware that there are dark sides in the entertainment industry, and many awards are predetermined.
But, being forced by some backstage power to pre-assign all awards to a lousy film that didnāt even qualify, like this awards ceremony, was truly meaningless.
"Sunny Summer" couldnāt even score 5 on Douban. If she attended, and the camera kept panning to the "Little Luck" crew again and again, it wouldnāt just humiliate her; the other actors from the crew would be humiliated as well.
Why should she give Lemon Entertainment such a big face?
Wang Ying finally realized Rong Yan was angry and awkwardly explained, "We didnāt plan to deny āLittle Luckā an award. After I knew, I fought for it. They promised to give āLittle Luckā an award."
"What award?" Rong Yan asked with unusual calmness.
Wang Ying awkwardly lowered her voice, "Best Artistic Effects Award."
"Rong Yan, I hope you understand me. I really fought for the film, but my abilities are limited. This is the best we can do. The company has high hopes for āLittle Luckā and hopes for it to win an award. With things turning out this way, weāre just as upset. Please, just help me this once, okay?"
