Chapter 2264: Chapter 2266: Gu Linxi vs Cui Jiangjing

“She didn’t lie to you, if she says she forgot, she really forgot.”

Huo Xiahe saw him placing his hand on Gu Linxi’s shoulder, appearing quite accustomed to it, seemingly not angry at all, which made his feelings become complicated.

With a forced smile, she said, “Forgetting something like this isn’t good, right? Most people would remember.”

Cui Jiangjing didn’t mind, “If you don’t remember, you don’t remember, it’s just a small thing. But you’ve lived abroad for so long, will you find it hard to adapt now that you’re suddenly back to study?”

When it came to herself, Huo Xiahe’s mood improved a lot; she answered with a beaming smile, “I got tired of eating ham and hamburgers every day abroad, it’s still better being back. Sichuan cuisine, Cantonese cuisine, Hunan cuisine, the eight major regional cuisines, you can pick whatever you want, and if you get bored, you can have hot pot to change it up. It’s like flying!”

“Tsk, judging by how you look, it seems your weight is taking off too.”

Huo Xiahe put on an embarrassed and angry expression, pouting, “I’ve already signed up for fitness classes, so I won’t gain weight!”

Cui Jiangjing was indifferent; just as the dishes arrived, he thoughtfully picked up a few pieces of fish Gu Linxi liked and put them in her bowl. He looked up, and casually asked, “Where are you staying now that you’re back?”

“Are you concerned about where I live?” Huo Xiahe complained to him, though deep down she was quite happy.

“Mrs. Huo stayed abroad to work, and with you coming back alone, it wouldn’t be right for me, as your brother, not to care a bit.”

Huo Xiahe didn’t confirm or deny, “But you didn’t come to the airport to pick me up when I got back today.”

“Ahem.”

Cui Jiangjing couldn’t tell her about the family’s matchmaking plans, so he changed the topic, “Have you found a place to live yet?”

Huo Xiahe bit the straw of her drink, rested her chin on the table, and after a moment of silence said, “I found a place. My grandma has a house near Briton University, and I’m staying there. My dad… also came looking for me, wanting me to go back to live with him. I haven’t decided where to stay yet, I might end up living at the university.”

Huo Xiahe’s father is a diplomat, and after remarrying, he had another son with his wife, living with his family in the residential area on Jingnan Road.

Back then, the couple’s divorce was quite unpleasant, Huo Jing adamantly demanded custody of their daughter, even going to court to fight for it.

Both of them are prominent figures, and in the end, they parted unhappily.

Huo Jing succeeded in getting custody of the 6-year-old Huo Xiahe, changing her last name to hers and taking her abroad.

Diplomat Qin, due to the heartless actions of his ex-wife, was never able to come to terms with it. Coupled with the ex-wife’s obstruction, although he loved his daughter, the prolonged lack of contact and communication led to his deep paternal love becoming awkwardly diluted. He started a new family, had a new child to accompany him, and turned over a new chapter in life. Even though he still loved his biological daughter secretly, it was evident that he couldn’t integrate his biological daughter into his new life.

Huo Xiahe understood this clearly and thus said she might end up living at the university.

They were all people from the same circle, and Cui Jiangjing had heard about the Huo Family’s sensational divorce drama back in the day. Seeing her reaction, he guessed most of it, silently patted her on the shoulder, and said, “My mom’s at home alone, you can visit her if you have time, she really misses you.”

Huo Xiahe showed a relieved smile and nodded, “Sure!”

She blinked at Cui Jiangjing and then at Gu Linxi beside him, and whispered, “Actually, you don’t need to worry about me, I’m an adult now, I’m not as fragile as you think. I’ve known about all the family stuff for a long time, my mom never kept it from me.”
