Chapter 1576: 849: Marquis Bolton's Great Achievement (Part 2)

Chapter 1576: Chapter 849: Marquis Bolton’s Great Achievement (Part 2)

He recounted the events in detail, mentioning every call made and command issued in the name of Marquis Bolton to this Marquis, to prevent any discrepancies during future debriefs.

Qing Chen asked, “Marquis Bolton, what did you do before marrying into nobility and… marrying the Fifth Princess?”

“I was a minor actor,” Marquis Bolton said.

Qing Chen thought no wonder during the interrogation, he played the detective quite convincingly and recited his lines so smoothly.

So that’s how it is.

This face does indeed qualify him as an actor.

He said earnestly, “My lord Marquis, Outpost 6 next door has completely fallen. Now you’re credited with an astounding achievement, the first major victory of this kingdom’s expedition. Remember all the details carefully, so nothing goes wrong. The Fifth Princess will surely help you manage this matter well. Marquis Level 4, or even 5, won’t just be a dream for you.”

Marquis Level 3 allows one to oversee power departments like the Food and Drug Administration, Department of Commerce, or Department of Education,

Marquis Level 5 qualifies one to oversee the Central Royal City Garrison, Department of Finance, and Legislative Department, essentially entering the core of power in the Roosevelt Kingdom.

In truth, for nobles with external surnames, their ‘positions’ end here. If Marquis Bolton achieves further great feats, he could rise to Marquis Level 6, but his duties wouldn’t change; rather, his private army command, slave purchase count, and salary would continue to increase.

Thus, Marquis Level 5 is immensely important!

Marquis Bolton hurriedly nodded, “I’ll remember… Chief Butler, I truly owe this time to you. Otherwise, I might have died last night, and the merit I’ve earned would disappear. This time, I’ll share the credit with you. I’ll say it was you who proposed deploying the airship, and you executed the plan—which alone can promote you to Citizen Level 1.”

Qing Chen smiled and said, “Thank you, My Lord Marquis. I’ll continue striving. But my achievements aren’t important; as long as Your Lordship prospers, I naturally will too.”

Marquis Bolton looked at Qing Chen, feeling he had found a treasure. With someone like him assisting, he didn’t need to lift a finger and could earn merits effortlessly…

Why hadn’t he met such talent before!

In fact, Qing Chen suddenly realized being Marquis Bolton’s Chief Butler was incredibly convenient.

In the battle last night, had he been a little harsher, Wild Wind and the others would have been routed completely; had he delayed action slightly, the Roosevelt Kingdom would have lost an outpost.

Now, with power in his hands, making one suffer more or less was just a matter of a word, a thought.

If Marquis Bolton’s status were a bit higher, at the end of a war, Qing Chen could, with a few words, cause heavy losses for both the Roosevelt Kingdom and the Giant Dynasty.

Moreover, no one could blame him, and who knows, they might even thank him.

Yes, this is quite interesting.

…

…

“My Lord Marquis, we’ve captured six giants alive; they’re imprisoned in the base dungeon. Would you like to take a look?” Qing Chen asked.

“Ah? I don’t dare—they’re so fierce!” Marquis Bolton said, a little timidly.

Qing Chen thought for a moment and said, “Then I’ll go on your behalf. Also, the Duke of Storm City will arrive in two hours; you must prepare well and not give him any grounds to impeach you.”

“Yes, yes, rest assured, I have finally had my moment,” Marquis Bolton said. “That old fellow boasted that the first major victory of this expedition would be his. Now look, didn’t I snatch it away? Hahahahaha!”

Qing Chen found this Marquis had a virtue: whether or not he had achieved the merit himself, as long as it was attributed to him, he could accept it calmly and embody the role.

This was good news for Qing Chen.

Just then, Marquis Bolton’s phone rang; it was the Princess Royal.

Qing Chen said, “Should I step aside?”

“No need, you’re the great contributor; no need to step aside!” Marquis Bolton answered the phone, “Hello, my wife… Yes, yes, I’m fine, doing well. Rest assured, half of the airships at Outpost 9 can be repaired, and most of the damaged ones are civilian-grade, so the loss isn’t actually that great.”

The Fifth Princess said on the phone, “Let your Chief Butler take the call.”

Cluelessly, Marquis Bolton handed the phone to Qing Chen, “Quick, your sister-in-law wants you to take the call.”

Qing Chen took it, “Hello, Princess Royal.”

“Just call me Cassia,” a crisp, pleasant voice said on the phone. “Thanks to you this time, I’ll remember your contributions, thank you.”

“You’re welcome; it’s my duty. I didn’t really do much, just went over the operations of the outpost following protocol,” Qing Chen said.

In this battle, Qing Chen had not stood out too much. He merely did some due diligence in tasks others overlooked.

If someone scrutinized, it would just show how meticulous he was, not being astonishing.

Thanks to the contrast with his peers.

Qing Chen carefully maintained balance, avoiding showing extraordinary ability that might raise suspicions.

If he had truly annihilated the small Pioneer Corps of the Giant Dynasty last night, the investigation targeting him mightn’t have been far off.

After a few seconds of silence, the Fifth Princess said, “I foresee a future between you and Bolton that puzzles me. I’ll arrive at Outpost 9 in two days. I hope to find some answers with you.”
