Chapter 77: Chapter 77: The Car Was Smashed
The Yan siblings invited the kind neighbors, who had come to offer their support, into their home. After serving tea and asking a few questions, they finally learned what was going on.
The news they had heard was that a patient had died under Yan Feifanâs care, and he was likely in serious trouble.
"Xiaoyu, what exactly did you tell your family?"
At Yan Feifanâs question, everyone in the living room turned in unison to look at Tian Yu, who was hiding behind her mother.
Tian Yu timidly poked out half her head, only to have her father grab her by the ear and pull her out into the open.
"Xiaoyu, didnât you say on the phone that Xiaoyan was out running errands when he came across a young brother and sister who had been stung by bees?"
"Xiaoyan saved the sister, but the brother died."
Tian Yu nodded her little head and said with a pout, "That *is* what I said."
"But I never said the brother died because of Mr. Yanâs treatment."
"Dad, youâre the one who misunderstood. You canât blame me."
Mr. Tian was furious and raised his hand high.
Seeing things were about to get ugly, Tian Yu darted away like a little monkey, zipping over to Yan Ziruoâs side to hide behind her.
Just then, Mr. Ge laughed heartily and said, "Itâs better that we misheard! This is a good thing."
"Did we really want a patient to die on Xiaoyanâs watch?"
Everyone heard this and realized he had a point.
Mr. Tian shot Tian Yu a fierce glare, then asked, "Xiaoyan, what exactly happened?"
Yan Feifan then briefly recounted the entire incident.
After hearing the story, the neighbors couldnât help but sigh with emotion...
Although it was all a bit of a mix-up, the fact that so many neighbors had rushed over to offer their support truly warmed the Yan siblingsâ hearts.
Yan Feifan couldnât help but think, âThis must be what they call an error in transmission.â
âPeople always tend to interpret things like this in the worst possible way.â
âAnd thatâs how you get a serious distortion of the message...â
After chatting for a while longer, just as the Yan siblings were thinking about taking everyone out for a bite to eat, the neighbors all decided to take their leave.
Even though they had driven five cars straight there, sparing them the trouble of taking the bus or subway, the trip back would still take at least an hour.
Besides, many of them had to work the next day.
So, the Yan siblings didnât insist they stay, but they etched the kind gesture into their hearts.
The only one who had a miserable time was the little girl, Tian Yu. Mr. Tian kept a firm grip on her ear as he dragged her back to Happiness Garden with the others...
As for Xiao Man, she surprisingly accepted Yan Ziruoâs invitation to stay the night...
The night passed without incident.
The next morning, Yan Feifan woke up at six oâclock sharp, just like always.
It was only after getting out of bed that he remembered he had the day off and didnât have to go to the hospital.
After washing up, Yan Feifan did his morning exercises, then started making breakfast for three people.
He made plain congee and boiled eggs, stir-fried two vegetable dishes, and, feeling inspired, even used the oven to bake some beef patties.
He had just about finished making breakfast, but since his sister and Xiao Man still hadnât gotten up, he had no choice but to start wake-up call duty.
Not even ten minutes later, Yan Ziruo and Xiao Man emerged from their rooms, one after the other.
Her hair a mess, Yan Ziruo yawned, walked up to Yan Feifan, and gave him a light punch on the arm.
"Itâs only seven-thirty, whatâs all the shouting? Just because youâre an early bird doesnât mean you canât let others sleep in."
Xiao Man, who looked fairly put-together, chuckled. "Itâs so much quieter here than my little apartment. I overslept without even realizing it."
She sniffed the air and asked with a bit of theatrics, "Wow, that smells amazing! What delicious food did you make?"
Yan Ziruo said proudly, "Mrs. Man, this little brother of mine really knows his way around a kitchen."
"Heâs just usually so busy that I have to eat out every morning. For dinner, I either just throw something together or eat at the hospital cafeteria."
Yan Feifan urged them, "Sis, Mrs. Man, letâs eat. It wonât be as good if it gets cold..."
The beef patties Yan Feifan made were a huge hit.
As a result, though there were originally two patties per person, Yan Feifan, the chef, only got a single bite of his. He did, however, get to eat two extra boiled eggs.
After breakfast, as they were cleaning up the dining room and kitchen, Yan Ziruo got a call from property management.
"What?"
"Is it serious?"
Yan Ziruo ended the call and said through gritted teeth, "Mrs. Man, Feifan, our cars have been vandalized! Both of them..."
The three of them rushed down to the underground parking garage. The scene that greeted them left them seething with rage.
The grape-purple Audi A3âs headlights were both smashed, its body was covered in dents, and it had been keyed several times.
What was even more infuriating was the ugly message someone had scratched onto the hood with a sharp object: "This is what you get for parking in the wrong spot!"
Xiao Manâs red MG hadnât fared much better.
Its headlights were also smashed, and the body and hood were covered in scratches.
Yan Feifan asked, just to be sure, "Sis, youâre positive you didnât park in the wrong spot, right?"
Fuming, Yan Ziruo squatted down to check the numbers painted on the parking space, then stood up and looked around at her surroundings.
"These are the two spots."
Yan Ziruo then turned to the two property management employees standing nearby and asked, "Did I park in the wrong place?"
The older of the two quickly replied, "According to our records, the owner of these two spaces is a Dr. Wang Chuan."
"We just donât know if Dr. Wang has privately sublet them or arranged for someone else to use them."
"Iâll call and ask right now..."
Burning with impatience, Yan Ziruo found Wang Chuanâs number and dialed.
The moment the call connected, she asked, "Mr. Wang, have you rented out or authorized anyone else to use your two parking spots at Zuimo Court?"
"Are you sure?"
"I see. Feifan is doing just fine."
"I have to go, I have an urgent matter to deal with over here."
Yan Ziruo hung up and said to the property management staff, "Iâve confirmed it. The spaces arenât rented out, and he hasnât given anyone else permission to use them."
She couldnât hold back her anger anymore and burst out, "Fucking son of a bitch! This is my brand-new car, the first car Iâve ever owned! Who the fuck..."
"Sis, Sis..."
Yan Feifan cut her off, pointing to a nearby camera. "Thereâs a camera right there..."
He then turned to the property management staff. "Donât tell me this security camera just so happens to be broken?"
"Of course not! Iâll take you all to the security room right now..."
Yan Feifan and the others went to the propertyâs security room and, along with the property manager, Mr. Yen, who had hurried over, reviewed the footage from the previous night.
The camera wasnât broken; in fact, it had recorded everything with perfect clarity.
At 2:10 AM, two Porsche 911 sports carsâone red, one whiteâpulled up in front of the Audi and the MG.
Two women and a man got out of the cars.
A moment later, the man pulled a golf club from the Porsche and started smashing the cars.
One of the women took something out of her purse and started keying them.
When the video finished, the property manager, Mr. Yen, spoke slowly. "Mr. Yan, Ms. Yan, I know the owners of those two Porsches. Theyâre fraternal twins who live in Building 7, apartment 801."
"Their father is Ma Hongchen, the owner of the Jinxiu Grand Hotel. Heâs also a member of the Municipal Peopleâs Political Consultative Conference."
He went on to explain, "Underground parking in this complex has always been tight. Their two Porsches used to park in those two spots all the time."
"This might just be a misunderstanding."
Yan Feifan said angrily, "We have video evidence. They just started smashing the cars. What kind of misunderstanding could there be?"
"Sis, call the police. Let them handle this."
Mr. Yen quickly tried to stop them. "Mr. Yan, Ms. Yan, I suggest we try to communicate first."
"If negotiations fail, then we can take legal action!"
He tried to persuade them further, "Once you call the police, itâs handled strictly by the book. At most, youâll get compensation for vehicle damages, lost wages, and things like that."
"But if you negotiate first, the amount of compensation is open to discussion."
"Besides, youâre all neighbors in the same complex. Youâre bound to run into each other. If you go straight to the police, itâll make for an awkward relationship from now on."
In truth, the moment Mr. Yen mentioned that the compensation could be negotiated, Yan Ziruoâs mind started turning.
âAfter all, she was still over ninety thousand in debt.â
After Mr. Yen finished speaking, Yan Ziruo looked at Xiao Man. "Mrs. Man, youâre a victim here too. What do you think?"
Xiao Man said softly, "Ruoruo, you make the call. Iâll back you up whatever you decide."
Yan Ziruo looked at Mr. Yen and said in a cold tone, "Mr. Yen, out of respect for you, Iâll give them one chance."
"I want to see them here with an apology and a proposed solution by noon."
"If itâs past noon... heh..."
