Chapter 283: Chapter 282: Not Giving Any Face
After a hearty takeout lunch, Wang Chuan once again asked Yan Feifan about the funds for investing in the private kitchen.
"Director, I might have been a bit hasty."
"Although the surgery went well, thereās still a chance the child might only wake up in three to five days, or even longer."
Yan Feifan added with a worried look, "And I still canāt guarantee that we can save the childās eyesight."
"Also, regarding the huge incentive, thereās a possibility the other party might delay the payment, or even not pay at all."
Wang Chuan chuckled softly. "A delay of ten days or half a month is fine. A business contract worth tens of millions isnāt something you can negotiate and finalize in just a few days."
"As for that person not honoring their promise..."
Wang Chuan chuckled again, saying confidently, "You donāt need to worry about that at all."
"Unless that guy wants to stop doing business in Binhai. The consequences of trying to fool our circle are far more severe than being put on a credit blacklist."
Wang Chuan then asked curiously, "You mentioned you invested in a project the other day. What is it?"
He added, "If itās inconvenient to talk about or needs to be kept confidential, donāt worry about it."
Yan Feifan scratched his head and grinned. "Actually, Director, I trust you one hundred percent. Thereās nothing to keep secret from you."
"Itās about designing and producing a small medical device for IV drips that has functions like temperature control, flow rate control, and reminders..."
After hearing Yan Feifanās simple description of this smart IV controller, Wang Chuanās eyes lit up.
"Feifan, you know, I really think this little gadget has great market potential, especially the constant temperature heating function."
"Getting an IV in cold weather can really freeze a person to death."
Yan Feifan said with a hint of pride, "They all say the constant temperature heating is the biggest selling point."
"Now it just depends on whether the designers can implement this function in a cost-effective and convenient way."
Wang Chuan mused, "A price point within two to three hundred yuan should be widely acceptable."
"For patients, spending an extra two or three yuan per IV to feel warm all over... they wouldnāt be stingy with that small amount."
"A small clinic using it seven or eight times a day is pretty normal. At that rate, they could recoup the cost in ten to twenty days."
Yan Feifan chuckled and added cautiously, "Itās a good idea, but plenty of products have flopped."
"I just hope this little product gains widespread acceptance."
Wang Chuan reached out and patted Yan Feifanās shoulder. "Personally, I think this product will be very popular."
"Who knows, this little product might make you a billionaire overnight and grant you financial freedom."
Yan Feifan said hopefully, "I hope so..."
In the afternoon, Lo Jun had a minor surgery.
However, Yan Feifan didnāt participate. Instead, he stayed in the neurosurgery directorās office to study the two patient files.
At five in the evening, Yan Feifan consulted with Mr. Lo, who had finished his surgery. They scheduled the two intraspinal tumor removal surgeries for Friday morning and Saturday afternoon, respectively.
Because Yan Feifan had other commitments on Friday and Saturday, he would only be responsible for the initial puncture and injection phase of the surgeries.
He would not be involved in the rest of the surgical procedures.
After six in the evening, Yan Feifan was preparing to head back to Zuimo Court, but just as he left the neurosurgery department, someone called out to him.
The person who stopped him was a young man with short hair, about 175cm tall, with a fair complexion and glasses.
Yan Feifan recognized him. His name was Guo Yiweng.
He had been Yan Feifanās class monitor when they first started medical school and was now an attending physician in the hospitalās ophthalmology department.
He was also a "second-generation doctor"; his father was the associate director and a chief physician in the hospitalās respiratory medicine department.
The guy came right over and grabbed Yan Feifanās arm.
"Yan Feifan, itās been ages since we all got together."
"Iāve rounded up a few classmates for tonight. If you donāt have any important plans, donāt even think about bailing!"
Yan Feifan quickly tried to refuse. "Class Monitor, I donāt have plans tonight, but I was in a major surgery all last night."
"I have two more surgeries tomorrow. I really need to rest tonight."
Seeing that both of Yan Feifanās eyes were bloodshot, Guo Yiweng knew he wasnāt lying and let go of his arm.
"Man, youāre fucking flying high these days."
Guo Yiweng offered a crude compliment, then asked, "Yan Feifan, I heard you have a plastic surgery charity fund?"
Yan Feifan shook his head. "Itās not a charity fund. I just got lucky and secured a charitable donation to perform reconstructive surgery for disabled children at the orphanage."
Guo Yiweng chuckled. "As long as you have the money, thatās what matters."
"Yan Feifan, thereās something I need your help with."
Before Yan Feifan could ask, he continued, "A couple of days ago, I was part of a free clinic event organized by the hospital and came across someone who needs help."
"This person, because heās extremely ugly and went through some kind of trauma, shuts himself in at home all day playing games and never goes out."
"Community workers have visited his home many times to persuade him. He finally agreed to go out, but on one condition: he gets plastic surgery."
"He says heāll only go out and work like a normal person if he can be made handsome."
Hearing the word "work," Yan Feifan couldnāt help but ask, "How old is this person, exactly?"
"Twenty-two."
Guo Yiweng sighed softly. "His father has a chronic illness, and his mother has a physical disability, so she can only do simple jobs."
"The family is poor and canāt afford the expensive plastic surgery fees."
"So, Yan Feifan, what do you think?"
Yan Feifan refused outright. "Thatās not possible."
"Class Monitor, from what youāre saying, this person is just ugly; his intelligence and body are otherwise fine."
"To be born into a family like that and not only fail to go out and work to support them, but instead stay home mooching off his parents and playing games... thatās a psychological and personality problem."
"Thatās not something plastic surgery can fix."
"That charitable donation is meant for the sympathetic cases of disabled children at the orphanage. It canāt be wasted on someone like him."
Guo Yiweng, not giving up, tried to persuade him. "Yan Feifan, I heard from the community workers that he used to be a pretty good, well-behaved kid."
"He only became like this after a traumatic incident."
Yan Feifan replied, "In that case, Class Monitor, you should find a psychologist to help him, not ask me to perform plastic surgery."
Guo Yiweng explained, "Heās seen a psychologist for counseling, but it didnāt have much of an effect."
"Right now, his ugliness is the root of his problem."
"We believe that if we solve his ugliness, the problem will naturally resolve itself."
Yan Feifan insisted, "If a person lacks inner strength, improving his external circumstances will only be a temporary fix. The moment he encounters another hardship or setback, heāll go right back to the way he was."
Seeing that Guo Yiweng was about to speak again, Yan Feifan held up a hand to stop him. "Class Monitor, you donāt need to say any more."
"This person is already little better than useless, and I wonāt help him."
Guo Yiweng said urgently, "Yan Feifan, for the sake of our friendship as classmates, do me this favor. Iāll owe you one."
"Besides, itās not like youāre spending your own money..."
Hearing this, Yan Feifan stopped responding and simply turned and walked away.
Guo Yiweng watched Yan Feifanās retreating back, his expression so dark it looked like water could be wrung from it.
He resentfully slammed his right fist into the palm of his left hand.
āDammit, I shouldnāt have been so impulsive and made that boast.ā
āThat bastard Yan Feifan... he didnāt give me any face at all...ā
