Chapter 292: Chapter 291: A Radical Conception
"Feifan, is something wrong?"
Yan Feifan put away his phone, hummed in agreement, and said, "The child with the craniopharyngioma woke up, but the test results are... unexpected."
"Blindness, aphasia, total paralysis, and his consciousness is a bit hazy."
Yan Feifan said with a note of confusion, "The blindness, paralysis, and hazy consciousness are all understandable."
"Perhaps some nerves or related functional brain tissue were accidentally damaged during the surgery."
"But the aphasia..."
Yan Feifanās brow furrowed into a tight knot.
"It shouldnāt have happened. Thereās no way we could have damaged the childās speech center during the entire procedure."
Yu Suye suggested, "Maybe there was unexpected bleeding in that part of the brain?"
Yan Feifan nodded. "Thatās a possibility."
"We wonāt know the exact situation until I get back to Binhai and conduct a detailed examination of the child with Dr. Qiu."
He sighed regretfully. "Whatever the cause, that five-million-yuan reward, itās like a soap bubble... POP..."
"Itās gone! I got my hopes up for nothing!"
Yu Suye reached out and gently smoothed the wrinkles on his brow, comforting him in a soft voice. "To this day, the brain is still the human organ scientists know the least about. Even the worldās top neurosurgeons canāt guarantee every operation will go smoothly."
"Feifan, donāt take it too hard."
"As for that huge reward, it would have been nice to have, but losing it wonāt affect our lives."
While replaying the surgery in his mind, Yan Feifan said, "Iām not crushed. The reward is gone, so be it."
"I just want to figure out where exactly this surgery went wrong..."
Noticing Yan Feifan starting to zone out and get lost in thought, Yu Suye quickly urged, "Um, Feifan, letās eat first. Weāll have more energy and clarity to think things through on a full stomach."
"Also..."
Yu Suye straightened up slightly and reminded him shyly, "Feifan, your hand..."
"It wouldnāt be good if someone saw."
"My hand..."
Only then did Yan Feifan realize his right hand was in a rather inappropriate place, cupping a handful of... abundance.
He quickly pulled his hand back, let go of Yu Suye, and stammered, "Su Ye, I just... it was a moment of impulse..."
"It felt nice... and when the call came... I forgot."
"Um... Iām sorry!"
Yu Suye straightened her slightly disheveled clothes, looking down as she said in a small voice, "You donāt have to apologize. I initiated it."
"I... like it..."
She then rubbed her cheeks with both hands, a small smile spreading across her face as she looked at Yan Feifan.
"Can you still see that Iāve been crying? Are my eyes still red?"
Yan Feifan raised his hand and used the pad of his pinky, and then his thumb, to carefully wipe a few spots beneath Yu Suyeās left eye and on her right cheek.
"You canāt tell now."
The smile on Yu Suyeās face grew wider, and she linked her arm through Yan Feifanās again.
"Come on, letās go eat."
"I suddenly have an appetite. I feel really, really hungry..."
The restaurant at Baining Hospital was a small, three-story building connected to the inpatient building by a winding, covered walkway.
Yu Suye led Yan Feifan through the walkway, which shielded them from the sun and rain, into the small building. They crossed the first-floor dining hall, where a dozen or so people were eating, and headed up the stairs.
The two of them bypassed the second floor and went straight to the third, entering a large, empty private room of over twenty square meters with elegant decor.
"Just the two of us?"
Yu Suye bit her lip. "It was supposed to be you, me, my family, Mr. Lin, Mrs. Lian, and the others having this meal together."
"But we had a complete falling out."
"Mrs. Lian thought it would be best if you and I talked alone, so it ended up being just the two of us eating."
Yan Feifan let out an "oh" and couldnāt help but remind her, "Since itās just the two of us, donāt order too much. It would be a waste if we canāt finish it!"
Yu Suye couldnāt help but smile faintly.
A short while later, a waiter began bringing out the dishes.
Yan Feifan saw they were serving sliced roast duck, along with duck gizzards, duck intestines, duck blood soup, and more.
It was an entire duck feast, accompanied by a few other meat and vegetable dishes. Nearly twenty plates were arranged on the large, round turntable.
Fortunately, the portion size of each dish was small.
Yan Feifan figured that, given how hungry he was, they probably wouldnāt have much left over if he and Yu Suye both made an effort.
Yu Suye explained softly, "This duck is roasted using the traditional closed-oven method. The flavor is on par with the ducks from those famous Jingcheng restaurants, if not better."
"Feifan, give it a try."
Yan Feifan hummed in agreement. He first took a few sips of the duck blood soup to warm up his stomach, as if alerting his famished digestive organs, āIām about to feast, so you all better get ready to work.ā
He took the spring pancake that Yu Suye had wrapped for himāfilled with duck skin, duck meat, cucumber strips, green onions, and dipping sauceāand took a bite.
Yan Feifan nodded in approval. "The flavors are so rich. Itās delicious!"
Yu Suye smiled again and said, "Actually, compared to the fame of Jingcheng roast duck, many people are disappointed the first time they try it. It doesnāt have that āwowā factor in terms of flavor."
"In reality, itās just a common, home-style dish for the locals."
Yan Feifan replied softly, "But that Mr. Luo has a way of turning home-style cooking into an unforgettable delicacy that lingers on the palate."
He added with regret, "Iāll have to go back on my word and pull out of the investment."
Yu Suye suggested, "Feifan, if you donāt want to miss this investment opportunity, you could borrow the money from someone."
"With your skills, earning another five million should be relatively easy."
She then reminded him, "Donāt forget, that medical case Mrs. Qin gave you also has a five-million-yuan incentive."
Yan Feifan shook his head. "The male member is so incredibly sensitive. Itās truly difficult to reattach it without any loss of function."
"Iāve been thinking about a plan these past few days, but I still havenāt gotten anywhere."
"You donāt have any ideas at all?" Yu Suye asked, trying to confirm.
Yan Feifan said thoughtfully, "Well, itās not that I have zero ideas. There is one very risky concept."
"What concept? How risky is it?" Yu Suyeās interest was piqued. She handed him another freshly wrapped spring pancake.
Yan Feifan took the pancake, bit off a large mouthful, and swallowed.
"The guy still has a small, fully-functional portion left, right? We could sever it and reattach it at the tip to serve as the sensitive head."
"Then, behind it, weād attach a thick, artificial shaft supported by cartilage."
"The reason this plan is so risky is that if anything goes wrong, that small, functional portion would be ruined too."
"Moreover..."
Yan Feifan added worriedly, "An artificial body isnāt as durable as the original, after all. Strenuous activity could cause problems."
Yu Suye nodded. "That is indeed a problem."
Just then, she heard Yan Feifan continue, "To solve that problem, I also considered a more radical method: grafting a toe bone onto the pubic bone."
"Let the guy devolve, give him a penis with a bone in it."
Yu Suye was a bit stunned and couldnāt help but say, "Feifan, you really let your imagination run wild."
"Besides, grafting it onto the pubic bone... a toe bone isnāt that long."
Yan Feifan smiled. "Then weāll graft two toe bones."
"If heās willing, I could graft all of his toe bones on there and give him the longest penis imaginable."
Yu Suye pictured it and couldnāt help but burst out laughing.
After her laughter subsided, she thought for a moment and said, "Feifan, humans did once have a baculum, a penis bone. It just disappeared during evolution."
"This means thereās a certain anatomical basis for grafting a bone onto the pubis."
"Your method might not be entirely unfeasible..."
Yan Feifan waved his hand. "Even if we had the courage to do it, the patient would never agree to be the guinea pig for this idea."
Despite this, the two of them began a back-and-forth discussion about the concept.
Such an interesting idea allowed Yu Suye to forget the pain of her falling out with her family, and it also let Yan Feifan temporarily set aside his worries about the failed craniopharyngioma surgery...
Just as their lunch was about to end, the door to the private room was pushed open.
Yu Suyeās older brother, Yu Chuanbai, walked in...
