Chapter 410: Chapter 409: Help Me Get Even
The young nurseās actions left Yan Feifan dumbfounded.
For years, he had either been studying at school or working in a hospital. His life experience was relatively limited. Heād never encountered anything like this before.
When Yan Feifan saw the young nurse forcefully yank out another lock of her hair, the roots still attached to a small, bloody piece of scalp, his own scalp tingled. He was horrified.
He ducked behind a bunk bed and shouted, "What are you doing? If you need something or have a request, just say it!"
"Thereās no need for this, really."
The young nurseās eyes were already brimming with tears. It was hard to tell if it was from the pain or just part of her performance.
She spoke through sobs, "If I donāt do this, how could I get you to agree, Dr. Yan?"
"How do you know I wonāt agree if you donāt even try? Iām a very approachable person. Please, donāt do anything foolish!"
āA wise man doesnāt court disaster.ā Yan Feifan decided to placate her with words first and get out of this unnerving situation.
"Youāll really agree?" The young nurse froze.
Yan Feifan suddenly felt this young nurse was a bit dense.
He nodded quickly. "You came to me because youāre seeking medical treatment for yourself or a loved one, right?"
"A doctorās heart is like a parentās. Iāve always been a soft touch; I canāt stand to see people begging in desperation."
"Itās just that... what youāre doing right now is honestly scaring me a little."
The young nurse glanced at the bloody welt on her chest, then at the lock of blood-matted hair in her hand, and burst into tears with a loud WAIL.
"SOB... SOB... My mom... she has a spinal tumor."
"SOB... My mom raised me all by herself. I canāt lose her."
"I went and begged Dr. Lo, but he said the waiting list is too long. My momās condition is too urgent, she canāt wait."
"SOB... No matter how much I begged, he wouldnāt agree."
"I was out of options, and someone gave me this idea..."
With a tear-streaked face, the young nurse looked at Yan Feifan and pleaded, "Dr. Yan, I only did this because I was truly out of options."
"Dr. Yan, can you still agree to help me?"
She quickly added, "Dr. Yan, as long as you promise to save my mom, Iāll do anything for you."
"Whatever you want me to do, Iāll do it. Anything at all."
The young nurse added pointedly, "Even *that*."
āHmph.ā Yan Feifan pursed his lips. āYouāre cute enough, I guess, but youāre nothing compared to my Su Ye.ā
āItās just that with Mr. Yuās diagnosis and my sisterās constant supervision, all I can do is look, not touch.ā
Yan Feifan knew he couldnāt provoke the young nurse right now. He nodded hastily. "I promise, I promise. And you donāt have to do a thing."
A flash of joy crossed the young nurseās face, but she quickly caught herself.
She asked suspiciously, "Dr. Yan, youāre not just humoring me, are you? Youāre not going to go back on your word as soon as you leave?"
Just as Yan Feifan was about to assure her he wouldnāt, the young nurse said, "Things have already gone this far. I have to get some insurance first."
The young nurse pulled a small GoPro camera from her pocket. She set it on the lower bunk on the left side of the room, aiming the lens directly at the bunk bed on the right.
"Dr. Yan, letās do *it* first."
The young nurse then threatened, "If you donāt, Iāll scream that youāre trying to assault me."
"Given the situation, I doubt the police will believe you!"
At these words, Yan Feifanās expression darkened.
The young nurseās actions had crossed a line for Yan Feifan.
He suddenly realized something.
The young nurse was a petite girl, maybe 5ā2" with a slender build.
āAnd Iām a man of about 5ā10".ā
āI might not be a bodybuilder, but Iāve been working out for the past few months. Iām strong enough.ā
āMost importantly, Iām a doctorāa very good one.ā
āI know exactly which parts of the body to strike to make someone lose their ability to resist from intense pain, or to knock them out quickly.ā
āAs a surgeon, my hands and feet are extremely agile...ā
No sooner said than done. After quickly running through several scenarios for subduing her in his mind, the look in Yan Feifanās eyes changed as he looked at the nurse.
Just then, a KNOCK KNOCK came from the door.
At the same time, a voice carried in from outside.
"The police wonāt believe you. I heard everything, and I recorded it on my phone. I can be a witness for Dr. Yan."
"Open the door!"
Yan Feifan recognized the voice. It was that silver-haired weirdo, Zeng Ni.
Hearing this voice, the young nurse collapsed to the floor and burst into tears, completely breaking down.
"WAAAAH... I really had no choice..."
"WAAAAH... Dr. Yan, please, save my mom..."
Yan Feifan started to walk past the young nurse, but she grabbed his leg. "WAAAAH... Dr. Yan, please..."
Yan Feifan dragged her with him to the door and unlocked it.
Zeng Ni, who was standing outside, first gave Yan Feifan a concerned look-over, then crouched down to the sobbing nurse. "Stop crying."
"I heard everything about your situation."
"Sigh, Iām just too soft-hearted. I canāt stand to see people cry. Iāll help you."
The young nurse stopped crying and asked suspiciously, "How can you help me? Can you make decisions on Dr. Yanās behalf?"
Zeng Ni chuckled. "Heh. My family has close ties to Jingcheng Bai Ning Hospital. I can pull some strings and get your mother moved to the front of the line."
"Really?" The young nurseās face was a mixture of shock and disbelief.
Zeng Ni snorted. "In a situation like this, do you have any other choice but to trust me?"
"I believe you! I believe you!"
The young nurse nodded quickly, then said in a choked voice, "Miss... Miss... Baining Hospital is very expensive."
"My mom doesnāt have insurance, and my family doesnāt have that kind of money... WAAAAH..."
Zeng Ni said with a look of disgust, "Stop wailing."
"I might as well go all the way. Fine. Iāll pay for your motherās surgery, too."
Seeing the young nurse about to speak again, Zeng Ni waved her hand dismissively. "Alright, alright, donāt bother with the thank yous."
"What can I say? Iām just a softie who canāt stand to see people in misery."
"Just take down my phone number..."
After giving the nurse her number and dismissing her with a few quick words, Zeng Ni turned to Yan Feifan, who had been watching coldly from the sidelines.
She flashed a brilliant smile. "Well, Dr. Yan, I just solved a huge problem for you, didnāt I?"
"A child raised by a single mother has a very deep bond with her."
"If she hadnāt gotten what she wanted this time, who knows what extreme thing she might have done next."
"Wouldnāt you agree, Dr. Yan?"
Zeng Ni added smugly, "And by arranging her motherās treatment through Baining Hospital, you wonāt be affected here at the Affiliated Hospital at all."
Yan Feifan said coldly, "Zeng Ni, just spit it out. What do you want in return?"
Zeng Ni put on an embarrassed expression. "Oh, Dr. Yan, I was just helping that poor girl out. My sympathy got the better of me. I just canāt stand to see people suffer."
Pausing for a moment and noticing that Yan Feifanās expression remained cold and impassive, she changed her tune. "But... if you really want to thank me, Dr. Yan, you *could* do me a small favor."
"I got screwed over by someone a while back. You could help me get even, Dr. Yan."
Zeng Ni continued enthusiastically, "With your photographic memory, it would be easy for you..."
"Zeng Ni, do you take me for a fool?"
Yan Feifan couldnāt take it anymore and cut her off bluntly. "You and that fake nurse put on this whole act together, and you really thought I wouldnāt see through it?"
Zeng Niās expression changed instantly. She demanded loudly, her voice filled with indignation, "Yan Feifan, what is that supposed to mean?"
"What does it mean?"
Yan Feifan pointed to his own eyes. "Let me tell you something, Zeng Ni. I donāt just have a photographic memory."
"My powers of observation are also extremely sharp."
"And I have to say, your acting is terrible. Not even a third as good as the fake nurseās."
"The micro-expressions on your face told me you two knew each other from the start."
"And another thing..."
Yan Feifan said with utter disdain, "āMy sympathy got the better of me? I canāt stand to see people suffer?ā Coming from a rich kid like you, not even a three-year-old would believe that."
With that said, he didnāt spare Zeng Ni another glance and simply walked away...
