Chapter 454: Chapter 453: Personal Assistant
Around six in the evening, while in the middle of surgery, Yan Feifan noticed a figure wavering in his peripheral vision.
He looked up. It was Wang Chuan, who had left the operating room more than two hours ago, now back again.
Yan Feifan noticed the deep worry etched on Wang Chuanâs face and couldnât help but ask, "Is Mr. Tangâs condition that bad?"
"Bad doesnât even begin to cover it. Itâs a complete disaster!"
Wang Chuan replied with a sigh, then explained, "His face was corroded by concentrated sulfuric acid. You could say his condition is even worse than Yanyanâs."
"From below the right cheekbone down to his chin, most of the muscle was severely carbonized. I had no choice but to cut it away."
"I also had to remove the right side of his nose and the tip."
"There are also scattered acid burns on his neck, scalp, and other areas of his face."
"His right palm was also severely burned."
"The only saving grace is that his eyes were unharmed."
Wang Chuan let out another pained sigh and continued, "I debrided his wounds again and applied an artificial skin coating."
"I also implanted some subcutaneous tissue expanders in his abdomen and thighs."
"The priority is to generate some skin tissue as quickly as possible for a facial graft, to keep his condition from deteriorating further."
After listening to the explanation, Yan Feifan couldnât help but ask, "Werenât they in the middle of negotiating compensation?"
"Why did the bride-to-be suddenly snap and attack him so viciously?"
Wang Chuan said with a heavy sigh, "Weâll have to wait for the police interrogation to find out the full story."
"According to Jio Xin, they couldnât agree on a compensation amount because the other party was unyielding. Tang Zheng then threatened to end the negotiations and told them to take legal action, saying the amount they were demanding was too high."
"Tang Zheng also warned them that according to the pre-operative agreement signed by both parties, they likely wouldnât get a single cent in compensation if it went to court."
Wang Chuan surmised, "Tang Zhengâs threat was just a negotiation tactic. The bride-to-be must have taken him at his word and decided to take a desperate, extreme measure."
Hearing this, Yan Feifan was suddenly struck by a sense that no one was safe.
Vicious attacks on doctors are reported in the news from time to time.
As a doctor, itâs impossible for every diagnosis or surgery to go perfectly smoothly.
If a doctor was unfortunate enough to have a failure or make a mistake, and then happened to encounter a patient or family member with a violent, extreme personality... the consequences would be unimaginable.
This made Yan Feifan think of the assistant he had mentioned to Mr. Liu that morning.
âThe assistant I hire,â he mused, âmust know how to fight. Someone who can protect me when it counts...â
At 7:30 PM, the female traineeâs full-face plastic surgery concluded.
After handling some post-operative tasks, Yan Feifan immediately rushed to the sterile ward to visit Tang Zheng.
Tang Zheng was still unconscious from the anesthesia.
Dressed in a sterile gown, Yan Feifan carefully inspected Tang Zhengâs injuries before leaving the room.
Jio Xin, who was keeping watch outside the ward, saw him through the large glass window and hurried over. She asked worriedly, "Mr. Yan, he... he can recover, right?"
Yan Feifan said after a momentâs thought, "His situation is similar to Yanyanâs. There is hope."
"It will just require a significant amount of time."
"And it will be very difficult to restore his original appearance."
Jio Xin let out a long sigh of relief. "As long as he can recover, thatâs what matters," she said softly. "As for his face... given his condition, we canât be too greedy. Just looking presentable will be enough."
"I will do my best."
Yan Feifan affirmed, then asked, "Why are you the only one here? Where is Mr. Tangâs family?"
"And his fiancée?"
Jio Xin explained, "His family is on their way from out of town. They said theyâll arrive tonight."
"As for his fiancée..."
Jio Xin shook her head. "Theyâve had several arguments recently because of the failed surgery on that bride-to-be."
"And now that this has happened..."
"Mr. Yan, itâs probably over between them. You understand."
Yan Feifan nodded in understanding.
That rich girl was with Tang Zheng largely for his exceptionally handsome face.
Now that heâs disfigured, the foundation of their relationship no longer exists.
Yan Feifan asked again, "Any news from the police?"
Jio Xin nodded. "We just got an update. The bride-to-be confessed. Her fiancĂ©, the one who called off the wedding, got together with her best friendâthe same friend who talked her into getting the surgery. And theyâre getting married at the same hotel, on the same date she had originally booked."
"She just snapped."
"She brought a bottle of concentrated sulfuric acid to Mr. Tang, saying she didnât want any compensation, as long as Mr. Tang was willing to marry her."
"Marry her?" Yan Feifan found it unbelievable.
Jio Xin nodded in confirmation. "Thatâs what she told the police. She also confessed that not only did Mr. Tang reject her outright, he also mocked her."
"So, on impulse, she did something irrational."
Yan Feifan didnât know what to say.
âThis whole thing is so melodramatic...â
He left the plastic surgery center and went to the Little Red House to check on Carolyn, who was under observation in the ICU after her successful brain tumor surgery.
Afterward, Yan Feifan went to the emergency department, met up with Yu Suye who was waiting for him, and they left the hospital to head home together.
The moment he got home, however, his sister was all over him.
"Feifan! Feifan! Everyone in the work group chat is saying that Dr. Tang Zheng, who used to be the most handsome man in our hospital, has been disfigured!"
"Theyâre saying he was cheating on several women, and one of the girls whose heart he broke doused him with concentrated sulfuric acid."
"The girl supposedly shouted that she still loves Tang Zheng, and she threw the acid to prove she loves him for who he is, not for his looks!"
Yan Feifan clicked his tongue. "What kind of nonsense are you all spreading? Who has such a wild imagination to make up a story like that?"
Yan Ziruo chuckled. "I admit the rumors are a bit ridiculous. Feifan, was Tang Zheng really disfigured?"
"With concentrated sulfuric acid?"
Yan Feifan hummed in confirmation. "It was because of a medical dispute," he explained, "not a messy love affair."
"Is the disfigurement severe?" Yan Ziruo pressed.
"Even more severe than Yanyanâs."
Yan Ziruo couldnât help but gasp. "Itâs that serious? Oh, what a shame, what a terrible shame."
"Iâve never seen anyone in real life more handsome than Dr. Tang."
"Itâs true what they say... fate is cruel to the beautiful..."
Not wanting to engage with his sisterâs dramatic ramblings, Yan Feifan walked over to the dining room and sat down with Yu Suye for dinner.
Yan Ziruo followed him over and sat down next to him.
"Feifan, you should be able to restore his face, right?"
Yan Feifan rolled his eyes at his sister. "Seventy, maybe eighty percent, at best. You can forget about him ever having those peerless looks again."
He then shooed her away in an annoyed tone, "Okay, Sis, you know what there is to know. Now go on, let us eat in peace."
Yan Ziruo huffed, stood up to leave, but not without giving Yan Feifan a retaliatory tap on the head...
After dinner, Yan Feifan, his sister, and Yu Suye began to discuss the matter of a personal assistant.
"Right, they have to be good at fighting."
Yan Ziruo immediately agreed. "Feifan," she declared, "youâre not just any doctor anymore. You have to take your personal safety seriously."
"Feifan, we should find a retired special forces soldier, one who can really fight."
"They can be your bodyguard and your driver, and help you out with day-to-day chores."
"And itâs time to buy a car. You canât have any energy left to ride your bike after a long day of surgeries."
After talking about the car, Yan Ziruo turned the topic back to the personal assistant.
"It would be best if they had some medical background too. Otherwise, they probably wouldnât be able to handle the tasks you give them."
Yu Suye reminded her, "Sis, your standards are a bit high. Most special forces soldiers only have a high school diploma."
Yan Ziruo retorted, "Mr. Ho was a medic. There must be medics in the special forces too, right?"
"Weâll start by screening with high standards. If we really canât find anyone, then we can lower our requirements."
She then added, "There should be plenty of veterans in Jingcheng."
"Su Ye, you should reach out to your friends and family, ask them for recommendations..."
