Chapter 461: Chapter 460: Cannot Support
Some things were simply out of his hands.
Patients had the right to choose their doctors and treatment methods, so there wasnât much Yan Feifan could say.
After all, he couldnât guarantee with one hundred percent certainty that his Puncture Injection Skill would restore the boyâs vision without any adverse side effects.
If he caused a delay that made the boy miss his high school entrance exams, he would be held responsible.
Given the circumstances, all Yan Feifan could do was wish the young studentâs medicinal treatment would go smoothly...
The next day, Monday morning, just as Yan Feifan was preparing to leave for work, Feng Jian arrived to report for duty right on time.
Seeing him still dressed in a shirt and tie, with slacks and leather shoes, Yan Feifan chuckled. "Feng Jian, you donât need to dress so formally. Just be casual. Everyday clothes are fine."
He paused for a moment before adding, "There isnât much work at the moment. After you take us to the hospital, go get a physical exam first, then take some time to familiarize yourself with the hospital."
"Our office is still under renovation."
"For now, I want you to mainly oversee the renovation work."
"Understood, Mr. Yan!" Feng Jian replied, a bit stiffly.
After arriving at the hospital in the Cayenne, Yan Feifan first gave Feng Jian a tour of the Emergency Department, Trauma Surgery, the Little Red House, and Plastic Surgery. Along the way, he checked on the lab mouseâs reconstructed penis and Carolynâs post-operative recovery.
Afterward, Yan Feifan sent Feng Jian off to get his physical exam.
He then met up with Dr. Chen Yu, Dr. Qin Ying, Department Head Wang Chuan, and Yu Suye to conduct a detailed physical examination on the seven-year-old twin sisters.
The results of the examination were quite satisfactory.
The older sister, Tuantuan, was in stable condition.
The younger sister, Yuanyuan, no longer had any inflammation. Her body temperature had returned to normal, and her physical condition had improved enough to withstand a major surgery.
Next, Yan Feifan, Chen Yu, Qin Ying, Wang Chuan, and Yu Suye held a closed-door meeting in Wang Chuanâs office.
After a brief discussion, they decided to schedule the surgery for nine oâclock the next morning.
Dr. Chen Yu would be in charge of transplanting Yuanyuanâs left hand.
Yu Suye, with assistance from Dr. Qin Ying, would be responsible for the left lower leg transplant.
Since the compatibility test had shown a perfect match, and the burns on the younger sister Yuanyuanâs left face were indeed severe, Yan Feifan would perform the left ear and left-side facial transplant with Wang Chuan assisting.
Once the meeting was over, the group left the office to conduct further, targeted pre-operative examinations and preparations on the twins for the upcoming surgery.
During the examination, Wang Chuan, Chen Yu, and Qin Ying also occasionally gave interviews to reporters and independent media, explaining the details of the next dayâs surgery.
Meanwhile, the organ transplant team also began their preparations.
They would need to wait until the transplant surgeries on the recipient, led by Yan Feifan and Chen Yuâs teams, had progressed to a certain stage before they could begin the organ retrieval procedure on the older sister, Tuantuan.
To save time, the three proceduresâthe left hand transplant, the left lower leg transplant, and the left ear and face transplantâwould be performed simultaneously.
This meant that a total of twelve peopleâthree lead surgeons, three surgical assistants, and two surgical nurses for each teamâwould be working together around the operating table.
Furthermore, all their procedures required the use of surgical microscopes, which take up a significant amount of space.
To avoid interfering with one another during the operation, Yan Feifan, Chen Yu, and Yu Suye led their respective teams to the top floor of the Plastic Surgery Department.
There was an operating room there that was reserved for VIP plastic surgery clients. It was the best-equipped and most spacious one available.
They did a dry run, rehearsing their positions and the progression of the surgery.
With the younger sister, Yuanyuanâs, arms and legs needing to be extended, they found that by placing two operating tables side by side, the three surgical teams would have just enough space to work.
However, they discovered another problem.
It was an issue with the surgical lighting and the placement of the microscopes.
This led to another major scramble.
They ended up borrowing several portable surgical lights and microscopes from both the Emergency Surgery and Neurosurgery departments. It took a great deal of effort to position and calibrate everything, but they finally found an arrangement where all three lead surgeons could operate simultaneously without getting in each otherâs way.
This whole setup process took four or five hours, and by the time they were done, it was nearly five in the afternoon.
The dozen or so of them had been so busy they had all skipped lunch, and everyone was ravenous.
"A craftsman must first sharpen his tools if he is to do his work well."
Qin Ying surveyed the operating room, which appeared chaotic but had an underlying order, and nodded. "The operating room is our most important tool."
"Whatever effort it takes to ensure tomorrowâs surgery goes smoothly is worth it."
Chen Yu shot her a disdainful look, then turned to Yan Feifan and said wearily, "Feifan, Iâm exhausted and starving. I donât have an ounce of energy left."
"Youâre treating, right? That private kitchen we like will be fine."
Yan Feifan chuckled. "Iâll have to call first and see if they have any private rooms available."
He called, and as luck would have it...
The owner, Hu Ling, told him that a party had just canceled their reservation for a large private room.
Yan Feifan hung up the phone and made an announcement.
Every single person present was to hang in there for a little while longer, and after work, they would all go to Luoâs Private Kitchen for dinner.
"Mr. Yan, maybe we shouldnât go,"
Meng Yao said softly, "So many people have been in this operating room, and weâve added so much equipment. It needs to be thoroughly sterilized."
"Thatâs going to take a lot of time and effort."
"Ye Lin and I can just grab a bite at the cafeteria."
The young nurse, Ye Lin, quickly chimed in, "Thatâs right, Mrs. Meng and I will be fine with a quick meal."
"Work comes first!"
While Yan Feifan was considering this, Wang Chuan spoke up. "Iâll have Jio Xin bring a few people over to handle the cleaning and sterilization."
He then explained, "Jio Xin never officially filed her resignation papers. She isnât working at Zhiyin Medical Beauty anymore, so I took the opportunity to have her come back and manage the nursing staff for the center..."
With someone else taking care of the work, everyone was happy.
The group left the operating room, and everyone went their separate ways to take care of their own tasks.
When quitting time rolled around at six in the evening, Yan Feifan and Wang Chuan left the department headâs office together, ready for dinner.
However, as soon as Yan Feifan stepped out of the office, someone called out to him.
Yan Feifan looked up and saw a woman who appeared to be in her late twenties.
She had long, flowing hair and a pretty face, accentuated by delicate, light makeup.
The white coat she was wearing wasnât a doctorâs, but the kind of sterile coat one wears in a laboratory.
Her small leather high heels went CLICK-CLACK as she approached with a stylish gait and introduced herself. "Hello, Mr. Yan. Iâm Yin Ke, a Ph.D. student under Mr. Hao!"
Yan Feifan grunted in acknowledgment and asked curtly, "What is it?"
Yin Keâs first impression on Yan Feifan was not a good one.
It wasnât because she was Mr. Haoâs student, but because she was wearing makeup and high heels.
âAs a medical student, no matter how much a girl cared about her appearance, she rarely had time to put on a full face of makeup.â
âWorking in a lab, makeup was even more out of the question.â
âAny powder or foundation on her face could fall into a petri dish and cause contamination.â
âAnd high heels, of all things?â
âDoctors and nurses, men and women alike, lived in comfortable, breathable sneakers.â
âA fashion-conscious woman in this field would only wear high heels at home, or when she was out with friends or attending an event.â
âJudging by these details, I donât think sheâs a hardworking and dedicated medical Ph.D. student,â Yan Feifan concluded.
Yin Ke, oblivious to the fact that she had already been judged unfavorably, smiled and said, "Mr. Yan, itâs like this. Mr. Hao asked me to come and discuss something with you..."
She put extra emphasis on the words "Mr. Hao."
After a brief pause, Yin Ke continued with a radiant smile, "Mr. Hao said that for the purposes of his research project, he needs a small office. It would make it more convenient for us to do our data analysis."
"He would like to borrow your office in the Little Red House for a while."
She added, "And Mr. Yan, to compensate you for the inconvenience, Mr. Hao specifically mentioned that you could participate in one of his sub-projects, doing some auxiliary research."
Yan Feifan replied coolly, "That office is very important to my work. I canât lend it out."
"Youâll have to ask to borrow someone elseâs office."
Yin Keâs expression froze at his response. She then tried to persuade him, "Mr. Yan, Mr. Hao is leading a national-level research project. Canât you make a small sacrifice to support it?"
Yan Feifan scoffed lightly. "If itâs such a major national-level project, you should seek support from the hospital president. Iâm sure he can figure something out."
"As for my office, I really canât lend it out."
Seeing that she was about to press the issue, Yan Feifan said bluntly, "I canât make that sacrifice, and I canât offer that support. Thereâs no need to say anything more."
