I chuckled, shrugging. "Lucky? Or smart?" I tilted my head, my smile never wavering. "You know you wouldnât win that fight, Officer Megan."
Angela shifted beside me, her lips curling in amusement, but she didnât say anything. Lisa, however, grinned, her eyes gleaming in the firelight. "Heâs got a point," she murmured, "you did just watch him break a guy in half."
Meganâs face darkened, but she didnât rise to the bait. Instead, she crossed her arms, her voice firm. "Youâre dangerous, Dexter. And I donât trust you."
I leaned forward, my elbows on my knees, my voice dropping to a dark purr. "Good." My eyes locked onto hers. "Because I donât need you to trust me. I just need you to stay out of my way."
She held my gaze, unflinching, but I saw itâthe flicker of something in her eyes. Fear? Curiosity? Something else?
"Or what?" she challenged, her voice steady, but her fingers twitched near her gun.
I leaned back, my smirk deepening as I watched Meganâs face twist in annoyance. "What do you mean?" she demanded, her voice sharp, her hands clenching into fists.
I laughed, my voice a dark chuckle. "Officer, are you dumb?" I tilted my head, my eyes glinting with mocking amusement. "Or are you just pretending to be?" I spread my hands, gesturing to the chaos around us. "Do you really think this place has any law?"
Meganâs eyes flashed, but she didnât back down. "No matter what this place is," she snapped, her voice firm, "there might be people looking for us. The government wonât give up on us. Soon, theyâll send a rescue team."
I burst out laughing, the sound raw and mocking, echoing through the cold night. "Haa. Haa. Ha." I wiped a fake tear from my eye, shaking my head. "Thatâs the funniest thing Iâve ever heard." My gaze dropped to her chest for a deliberate second before snapping back to her face.
"You know what they say, Officer Megan?" I grinned, my voice dripping with arrogance.
"Women with big tits have no brain."
I laughed again, "Haa. Ha. Haa."
Angela and Lisa chuckled, their smirks matching mine. Meganâs face burned, her jaw clenching so hard I thought her teeth might crack.
"Youâre disgusting," she hissed, her voice trembling with rage.
I shrugged, my smile never fading. "And youâre delusional." I leaned forward, my voice dropping to a cold, hard tone. "Where do you think this place is, Megan?" I gestured to the sky, to the green rift pulsing like a wound in the fabric of reality.
"Whereâs there no signal? Where we all fell through that hole in the sky?" I paused, my eyes locking onto hers. "Where we should be dead, but weâre not?"
Megan swallowed hard, her gaze flickering to the rift before snapping back to me. "If we all fell from the sky..." she started, her voice unsteady, "then why are we still alive? Donât you think thatâs strange?"
I laughed again, but this time, there was no humor in it. Just cold, hard truth. "Oh, Officer Megan," I murmured, my voice a dark whisper. "I donât think itâs strange." My smile vanished, replaced by something far more dangerous. "I know it is." I leaned in, my voice dropping to a barely audible growl. "And so do you."
She didnât respond. But her eyesâwide, uncertainâtold me everything.
She was starting to realize.
I leaned in closer, my voice a dark, mocking whisper. "We are on our own, Officer." My eyes locked onto hers, cold and unyielding. "And donât play the holy mother here... or youâll be the first one to die."
Meganâs face flushed, her voice sharp with outrage. "Are you threatening a police officer?!"
I chuckled, shaking my head as if she were a naive child. "No, Megan." My tone was calm, almost patronizing. "Iâm just reminding you." I gestured to the crowd, their faces twisted in fear and desperation. "Because youâre already a target." My smile turned cold. "What do you think these people will do once they run out of patience? Once they run out of food?"
Her eyes flicked to the group, her grip tightening on her gun. I could see the realization dawning on her face.
"They all want security," I murmured, my voice dripping with amusement. "And you now have two guns." I laughed, the sound low and dark. "Heh. Heh. I would love to see what happens next."
Meganâs breath hitched, her voice a shocked whisper. "You... You gave me your gun to make me a target?!"
I burst out laughing, throwing my head back as the truth sank in. "Haa. Haa. Silly beauty." My smirk was razor-sharp as I leaned back, watching her face crumble with horror. "Did you really think Iâd let you keep it out of the goodness of my heart?" I shrugged, my tone mocking. "Survival isnât about kindness, Megan. Itâs about power." My eyes gleamed in the firelight. "And you just became the strongest target here."
Her face paled, her grip on the gun trembling. "Youâre a monster."
The firelight danced across Meganâs face, her chest rising and falling with deep, controlled breathsâher tits straining against the buttons of her uniform with every inhale. I watched, amused, half-hoping one of those buttons would pop off like a champagne cork. But no such luck. Disappointing.
Megan noticed my gaze and crossed her arms over her chest, glaring at me. "You lecher," she hissed, her voice sharp with disgust.
I didnât bother responding. Instead, I waited, enjoying the silence, the tension, the way her mind was racing to catch up with the reality of her situation.
Finally, she spoke, her voice a mix of fear and curiosity. "What did you do?"
I turned to her, my smile dark, dangerous. "Iâm a killer," I said, my voice smooth, almost casual. "Or an assassin, if you prefer the fancy word."
Meganâs face paled, her lips parting in shock. "You... Youâ" She stuttered, her mind struggling to process it. "Youâre admitting this? Just... just like that?"
I chuckled, shrugging as if it were nothing. "Why not?" I leaned in, my voice a whisper. "Itâs not like you can arrest me, Officer Megan." My eyes flicked to the rift in the sky, then back to her. "Not here. Not ever."
She swallowed hard, her grip tightening on her gun. "Youâre insane."
I grinned, spreading my hands in a mocking gesture. "And youâre still clinging to a world that doesnât exist anymore." My voice dropped, cold and final. "Out here, the only law is mine."
Megan didnât respond. But her eyesâwide, uncertain, finally seeing the truthâsaid everything.
