Chapter 713: Nonchalant Kent
The ten Elders in the hall and the King were visibly shaken when they saw Kent. It wasnât because Kent was too handsome to the point that they couldnât fathom his good looksâŠ
Their shock stemmed from the fact that, among the many rumors circulating about Kent Madson, the person in question was merely a level three Core Formation Expert.
Until today, they had expected Kent to be some big shot, someone with power so great that killing him would require the assistance of an entire race.
They expected Kent to look so scary that just laying eyes on him would be enough to make you pee your pants. They expected Kent to be the most dangerous person they had ever metâŠ
But looking at him now, they just couldnât bring themselves to pee their pants or run away screaming.
Kent was just normal, and aside from his handsomeness, they didnât feel any threat from him.
King Thalirion looked at Kent curiously for a few seconds and then spoke, âYou are Kent Madson?â It was a question containing many skeptical remarks, one aimed at knowing just what the fuck was going on.
Was the Hand messing with them by claiming Kent was dangerous? Or was he really that strong but appeared harmless to deceive everyone? Nothing made sense to the king and his EldersâŠ
Kent looked at everyone and nodded. âI am Kent Madson⊠Nice meeting you all.â
The Elders looked at Kent, scanning him from head to toe. Of course, the fact that Kent didnât seem agitated or scared told them how he felt.
âHe isnât afraid of us⊠Almost like we arenât much of a threat to him⊠But that just doesnât make sense.â
The King and his Elders thought the same thing.
âMay I know why you are here?â the king asked. For someone being hunted by the Hand, though he appeared harmless, it was better to tread carefully.
âI am here to join the competition to gain access to the Flame Tower⊠Though my end game is to get into the Supreme Immortal Sect.â
âYou are not a Half-Elf,â the King said.
âI know. However, a little bird told me that this is an open competition, so I can compete if I meet the requirements⊠As it turns out, I meet all the requirements.â Kent smiled.
The Elders looked at the king and then back at Kent.
âRegistrations are over⊠So I am sorry, but you may have come here for nothing,â the King said, keeping a straight face.
Kent studied his expression for a few moments before a sigh escaped his lips.
âI understand. In that case, I will leave thenâŠâ Kent looked at the King and his elders for a few more seconds.
âWhatever the Hand is offering you, donât even consider it. Trust me, going against me is the last thing you want to do⊠But you can call them and tell them where I amâŠâ
Kent turned and started walking away from the hall under the shocked gaze of the King and his elders. They just didnât understand what had happened.
It was true that registrations were over, but this was the king; he had the means to add one more candidate to the list of registered candidates. However, instead of Kent pleading with him to do so, he turned to leave.
But if that wasnât shocking enough, he even told them to call the people after him and give them his location. It was like he didnât care about his life, so he wanted it to end.
But the most shocking part was the subtle threat he left them, as if he was making sure they understood he wasnât afraid of them, not even in the slightest.
âWait,â King Thalirion said, halting Kent in his tracks. He turned and looked back at the King.
âAre you just going to leave like that? Arenât you even going to try to get a spot in the competition? I know you came a long way for this. Arenât the Flame Tower what you are after?â
Kent smiled slightly. âI indeed came a long way for this. However, since I couldnât get a chance to see her, I planned to try my luck somewhere else.
I came here because I was told the Half-Elves are more welcoming to humans than the other races. But since I wonât be getting a chance here, I might as well try my luck somewhere else. I am sure I will get a slot one way or the other.â
The King turned and looked at his elders as if they should say something. He hadnât expected the conversation to go in this direction.
He expected Kent to be more desperate. He expected him to beg for a chance to compete for a slot to enter the Flame Tower.
This way, if things had gone like he expected, he would have some leverage to know more about why Kent was being hunted down by the Hand.
However, as if he werenât even interested in what he had come there for, Kent just turned to leave. This broke the expectations he had of KentâŠ
The King and his elders were taken aback, unsure of what to say. They had never met someone who could show such a degree of nonchalance when something as precious as entering the Flame Tower was on the line.
âYou all might want to take my offer and contact the Hand, or else the Elves will beat you to it. Although I must say, I am a little disappointed that my expectations for coming here werenât met.
But I understand. This isnât something I can force, regardless of how much I need this. I came here peacefully; I will leave the same way I came.â
âWhat if we give you a spot to compete? Would that be enough to tell us why the Hand is after you?â The King, ever the conscientious man, still wanted to know more about Kent.
He wasnât about to make a mistake by calling the Hand when he didnât know everything. Something told him turning Kent in would be bad for them, so he wanted to know, and if the ending were bad, he would handle that one too.
