Chapter 51 â The One Sided Proposal
âA business opportunity?â the Faceless One muttered, puzzled. âMy organization is still fairly new, and if you sought me out, you should already know its purpose.â
âInformation is a valuable asset, and Iâm willing to sponsor you under certain conditions,â Rael said with a smile.
The Faceless One narrowed his eyes. âWhat are these conditions you speak of?â
âFirst conditionâyou move your main branch over to Celestara,â Rael stated. âAre we still on the same page?â
âIt is doable,â the Faceless One replied with a hesitant nod. âHowever, Iâm starting to believe your sponsorship doesnât involve money.â
âNot primarily,â Rael said flatly. âSince your organization focuses on high-class intel, I can provide you with intel above that.â
âThatâs impossibleââ
âNo it isnât, so Iâll give you a minor tip,â Rael cut him off with a chuckle. âIn a week or two, a royal scouting party heading out of Varnak will encounter monsters which have escaped from a dungeon. Sadly, the scouts will be wiped out, and following their deaths, rumors of war will surface.â
âThatâs not intel gathering⊠YouâŠâ the Faceless Oneâs eyes widened in realization. âYouâve got some information on future events, donât you?â
No wonder heâs called an anomaly by the players.
Rael smiled as he shrugged, before moving on.
âThe second conditionâall intel regarding Celestara is scrambled. Meaning, if an enemy country tries prying something from you, then you redirect them elsewhere. In the same manner, Iâd like to be informed on any hostile actions taken against Celestara.â
âIâm sure you understand, but an information-gathering organization which tells lies isnât exactly needed in this economy,â the Faceless One pointed out.
Rael shook his head sternly. âItâs a dealbreaker. However, as an addition, I could tell you which information regarding Celestara youâre allowed to release. I believe itâs a fair trade-off considering the monopoly youâd be getting. And you already know Iâm not lyingâŠâ
A wide grin spread across Raelâs face. âAfter all, you have a skill that can detect all lies, isnât that right, ZarethâNull?â
I probably butchered the pronunciation, but who cares? I got my point across,
he whistled inwardly, and to his surprise, the Faceless One didnât even show a reaction.
Instead, he was merely staring Rael in the eyes, almost as if confirming all the stuff he had said up until now were the truth.
Finally, the Faceless One let out a sigh, as he pulled a seat over and sat down.
He flashed a conflicted glance toward Rael before signaling him to continue.
âThird and final conditionâI want you to create a sub-division of shadows, people who could handle dirty work.â
âThat would make us no longer impartial,â the Faceless One replied. âYour conditions force us to follow only one path, and that is by becoming your underlings.â
Instead of replying, Raelâs grin merely widened.
But it gave the Faceless One enough of an answer.
After all, Raelâs main goal, was to recruit him.
He was a hidden NPC whom you couldnât meet in the game directly due to player restrictions, but there were rumors that he could see everything, including the real world.
Some players reported weird crashes to their games, with the lone system log beingâŠ
It wasnât something he encountered himself, but after some lore digging, Rael managed to get some of the Faceless Oneâs information.
Or at least, enough to make such demands.
âI will take your offer into consideration, Rael Sutekh,â the Faceless One stated as he stood up and began walking toward the back door.
Before he entered, he flashed one last glance at Rael. âYou will hear my answer within a week⊠Are you open to negotiating the terms?â
Rael nodded. âOnly if they are reasonable. However, do keep in mind, the offers Iâve given you are dealbreakersâwhat you want to expand within them is up to you to decide.â
With those words, he stood up, waved, and began walking toward the exit.
Linlin was stunned throughout the whole conversation and only just snapped out of it before following him outside.
Rael didnât shoo her away. Getting the Radiant Dawn involved meant their members could join the Faceless Oneâs shadow division.
If that were to happen, then the two organizationsâ power would soar.
This time, heâd make sure Celestara didnât get shit on before the game released and Zafira remained queen.
He walked through the streets silently, as Linlin trailed close behind.
However, that silence was soon broken.
âThat was intense⊠Whoâs this Zaretââ
âDonât say his name,â Rael cut her off. âItâs some voodoo-protected bullshit, so if a random person says it without knowing its implications, their memory of his existence gets erased.â
A shiver ran down Linlinâs spine. âSpooky⊠But I assume this is not all you wanted to come here for?â
âNope, acting like a smartass was tiring,â Rael replied with a chuckle. âIâm going to relax for the day, and tomorrow, Iâllââ
<[Level 100] Emergency Event triggered!>
ââŠâ Both he and Linlin stared at the messages speechlessly before she let out a giggle.
âYep, princess, Iâm afraid youâre not going to be getting any rest after all.â
It just had to happen today⊠Those fucking developers and their stupid eventsâŠ
Rael thought, considering the possibility of knocking his head into a wall to get some rest.
Nonetheless, like the sane person he was, he calmed down and nodded at Linlin before jumping up on a nearby building and dashing through the rooftops.
Usually, Monster Waves happened in one of the cardinal directions, so he just had to figure out which it would be this time.
North, East, West, or South.
He sat down on the rooftop and rocked his legs out of boredom, as he would only be able to find out in five minutes.
âHey⊠I have a bit of a favor I want from you,â Linlin said as she approached and stood beside him.
Rael raised a brow. âYou sure like stacking these favors, donât you?â
âItâs not that bad this time, butâŠâ Linlin let out a sigh as she tapped the air a few times.
In the next moment, a system message appeared in front of him.
ââŠâ Rael silently glanced into her pleading eyes.
âIs this a joke?â
