Rael tilted his head, puzzled. “…Who?”

“Alune,” the Beast repeated. “It is she who gave you the mark, correct?”

“If you mean the Primordial Mark, then I’m not sure who gave it to me. I didn’t get a name,” Rael replied with a shrug.

“Hmm…” the Beast nodded. “I see. Thank you for the information. You may die now—”

“Just a moment.” Rael cut in. “You gave me a quest. I need to find you, it says. That shit popped up out of nowhere, so you must know something about it, right?”

“I don’t recall anything of the sort,” the Beast replied flatly. “However, upon closer look, I can tell you’re not exactly human, are you? A crystal being of sorts with limited potential—very amusing. But as you can assume, interrupting my slumber has placed you on the list of people I must devour.”

The moment the Beast finished speaking, it suddenly lunged forward and grabbed Rael by the throat.

He tried his best to resist, but the pressure bearing down on him was simply too much.

This motherfucker is sturdy… but as bullshit as this quest may be, there has to be a clearing condition… Rael thought with a frown as he felt his throat being crushed.

“Alune just contacted me. She said she’d give you a massive scolding after you came back for killing her chosen one.”

The moment Rael’s words fell, the Beast froze.

“Scold…?” the Beast muttered. “Alune would scold me? Is that true?”

For some reason, the Beast seemed a bit excited, but Rael didn’t want to get ahead of himself now.

“She did, but she also said that if you kill me, then she’s going to hate you forever and ever. That would suck a lot, wouldn’t it?”

“You do have a point…” the Beast replied as it began easing up its grip.

However, just as Rael thought he had gotten past the hard part, the Beast let out a laugh.

“Pfft… Hahaha, you’re a very interesting comedian,” the Beast remarked. “My daughter is not very vocal. She doesn’t even leave her room. That’s why Alune would not speak out against me, even if I were to kill you.”

…Daughter?

Rael felt pain radiating from his neck throughout his entire body, yet he couldn’t do anything

Escaping into his dungeon didn’t work either.

Yep… fuck. Rael let out a sigh as he glanced into the Beast’s eyes once again.

There was one last gamble he had, but it didn’t feel that relevant.

Nonetheless, his desperation was evident, so Rael swiftly pulled out one of the Embers he received from lighting the bonfire, and in the very next moment, the Beast raised a brow.

“You’ve received nourishment… interesting,” the Beast muttered, its face morphing into a massive smile. “Eat it.”

“What? Don’t you want to eat it?” Rael asked, tilting his head. “I know it looks stupid, but I assure you, it should probably be nutritious…”

“Take a bite. If you can survive, then I shall let you live,” the Beast insisted, and as if it knew his exact HP amount, it tightened its grip on his neck.

Immediately, a loud crack resounded, followed by…

No fucking shit.

He honestly expected to be panicking in a situation like this.

But it simply felt… unreal?

Rael could feel his life literally slipping away from him, but at the same time, he didn’t feel like he was truly dying.

What a shit quest. Rael scoffed and tried to speak.

However, his neck was fully broken now, and with it, his vocal cords.

Once he met the Beast’s eyes, it tilted its chin toward the Ember, meaning he had two choices.

Die, or eat the Ember.

I’m going to turn this fucking thing into stir-fry once I’m stronger…

Nonetheless, since the choice was obvious, Rael opened his mouth and slowly brought the Ember closer before biting into it.

Immediately, a sweet sensation spread throughout his mouth, and to his surprise, he felt like he couldn’t resist taking another bite, and then another.

After what felt like several minutes, Rael had completely devoured the Ember, and during that time, it seemed like his neck had fully recovered.

But from the lack of pop-ups, he was slightly confused.

And from the puzzled look on the Beast’s face, it seemed like it was too.

“Well… I ate the thing. It was pretty delicious, if I’m being honest. You definitely missed out,” Rael snickered, when all of a sudden, the Beast stretched out its hand and sent a flick Rael’s way.

He couldn’t see the attack, but he could vaguely hear it.

A sound attack, combining the wind element.

It soon hit his abdomen, completely knocking the air from his lungs.

“I suppose a deal is a deal,” the Beast commented. “An Ember is something only the monsters at Noble class and above can eat, so I’m truly surprised by your constitution. After all, it contains the souls of all those that had died in the Plague Lands.”

Rael’s eyes widened in shock.

“That’s the name of the main quest, yeah. The objective for this part is to find a way out of the Depths,” Rael replied with a nod.

“I see…” the Beast nodded. “So since I was supposedly the one who assigned you that quest, I can rightfully change its contents.”

The Beast coughed, clearing its throat. “Your new objective is to absorb all 10 of the Embers, and once you do, you are free to leave.”
