“You killed them… why…?” Caedia muttered, causing his brows to furrow.

“I’m not a Saint, and I was attacked first for no reason.” Rael glanced toward the city, noticing a bit of smoke rising. “But my guess is, you’re not exactly from around here, are you?”

She had a weird accent, and her skin was slightly more toned than the rest of the people he had seen in this land.

Aside from Karnyx and the Frostpire Bastion, there was still Halcyra to the west, Volkrath and Kurozan to the north.

They had ships, meaning they could get over to this side, so naturally…

“Did you invade this city?” Rael asked flatly.

Instead of replying, she looked to the ground, trying her best to hide her expression.

“…” Rael was getting tired of her antics, so he turned to Seryn. “If you don’t mind, could you take a look around inside the city? There should be a coast to the left—check if there’s a ship.”

“I’m not your errand boy, but since I did say I would be exploring, I’ll do it,” Seryn stated as he shot both the Empress and Rael one final glance. “I’ll be back in a bit.”

Rael waved him off and crouched down, his face meeting hers.

“I want you to take your soldiers and fuck off to where you came from. Can you do that?”

Caedia flinched. “I-If I come back empty-handed, I will be killed…”

Inwardly, he was shaken.

Rael nodded. “So what you’re basically saying is that if I let you leave here, I lose out on potential profits. What would you do in my situation?”

She knew what he meant, so with a frown, she shook her head. “If I give it to you and return home, I’m as good as dead… you should just kill me now.”

“Where’s home?” he asked. “Kurozan? Volkrath?”

“Halcyra…” she muttered. “I’m one of the three Empresses… the other two have already gathered their keys, so if I return empty-handed, I’m going to be burnt at the stake.”

Halcyra, interesting… Rael grinned. “I have a proposal for you, and no, it’s not marriage.”

Caedia stiffly nodded, listening.

“You see, Halcyra is one of my destinations, so I’d be willing to take you there. However, I want you to tell me everything you know about The Depths and the Beast on our way there—and also act as a guide of sorts.”

It wasn’t a big ask—he just wanted another traveling companion.

And since she seemed to be the Empress of some city, naturally, she could fill in the gaps of his knowledge.

After all, he had been traveling without knowing a thing about this place, or even why the Beast exists and what role it plays.

Therefore, he waited for her reply, and soon…

“If you let me keep the key, then I agree… not like I have much of a choice anyway,” Caedia said plainly.

“Good choice.” Rael chuckled. “I’m still going to need all your money though~”

Caedia clicked her tongue and extended her hand, which he swiftly accepted.

“I think you forgot a couple zeroes,” Rael pointed out innocently, making Caedia grip his arm tighter.

“I’m sure you have more, but I’ll get it out of you along the way. For now, it’s enough,” Rael remarked as he stored away his rapier. “Now then, Caedia, I hope we can get along. You can stand up now.”

With that, he dramatically waited, but even after several seconds, she remained kneeling, her hands trembling on the hilt of her sword.

“Is something wrong?” he asked, puzzled.

“I can barely breathe… let alone move because of that attack of yours,” she replied with a poker face. “Give me a few moments…”

Rael chuckled, then opened the Premium Shop.
