Chapter 158: The Origin of Fear
Immediately, Rael felt as though he was being lifted into the sky, and then, he simply blacked out.
It was a strange feeling, and while it had similarities to the Mind Realm, it was a bit more forceful.
Yet unlike in the Mind Realm, he couldnât feel his vision returning any time soon. Instead, he was met with a few pop-ups.
A lot of options⊠I guess Bystander would just let me view their dream and not interact with it⊠Rael trailed off. As a Guide, Iâd⊠guide them somewhere?
And of course, the Manifestation of Fear was just as heâd expect. Something the person whose Dream he was inside of feared greatly.
Therefore, Rael didnât hesitate and chose the first option.
The moment the last message fell, Rael felt as though he was floating on water. Yet when he tried to interact with the water, he realized he couldnât even move his body.
For that matter, he didnât really have a body, it was just his imagination playing tricks on him.
This is fucking creepy⊠Rael thought with a frown.
However, after what felt like a couple of minutes, Rael suddenly felt a pull downward.
It felt like he was floating through the water, but it didnât last long, as the feeling disappeared, replaced by his surroundings shifting constantly.
Until eventually, Raelâs vision stabilized, and he found himself sitting on a luxurious golden throne, surrounded by women.
<Youâve become Diederich Ashavir, the ruler of Aztera, and the father of Reinhardt Ashavir!>
Thatâs pretty neat, Rael nodded to himself, glancing around the throne room.
It was much more spacious than the throne room in Celestara, but it also had that disgusting, feral smell which was likely from the king doing the deed with all the women present.
I respect the player, but damn, this shit is something elseâ
His thoughts were interrupted when, all of a sudden, the throne room doors opened, revealing an excited golden-haired child who swiftly ran up to Rael, or rather, the king.
Of course, it was none other than Reinhardt.
âFather!â Reinhardt yelled, a massive grin spreading across his face as he pulled something from behind his back.
It was a headless chicken, and Reinhardt simply waved it around with a proud look.
However, from the silence, it seemed like not a single person was amusedânot even the women surrounding Rael.
Just as Rael was about to open his mouth, a couple of messages popped up, stopping him.
Hmm⊠traumatizing a child, canât say I like this⊠Rael thought with a sigh, but still decided to go through with it.
âReinhardt,â Rael called out in a very deep voice, containing such authority that the women beside him, as well as the child in front, recoiled.
The women sensed that something was about to go down, so they began scattering without even an ounce of hesitation.
After a few seconds, the only people left in the throne room were Reinhardt and Rael, posing as his father.
âWhy did you kill the chicken?â Rael asked, tapping the throneâs armrest to the rhythm of his own heartbeat. âDo you feel powerful killing those who have no ability to fight back?â
Reinhardt flinched. âB-But⊠I was hungryâŠâ
Rael tilted his head. âThen why did you not cook the chicken before bringing it here? Do you not understand basic etiquette? Have I taught you nothing?â
The increase is too small⊠Rael thought with furrowed brows as he fell deep into thought.
What could trigger a reaction from Reinhardt?
If he went by what he remembered in the lore, then Reinhardt loved his mother deeply. However, she was a concubine and was tossed aside from the royal palace.
He didnât know much lore about her aside from that, but he could use it.
âEach time you make a mistake, you take a year off your motherâs life, Reinhardt,â Rael stated coldly.
And that alone seemed to have done the job as Reinhardtâs expression crumpled.
A chonky increase. However, just as Rael was planning on continuing his slander, the scene shifted, and he now found himself face to face with an adult Reinhardt.
âFatherâŠâ Reinhardt muttered. âMay I have a duel with you?â
Rael maintained his composure as he tilted his head. âDo you think youâre ready?â
Instead of answering, Reinhardt slowly nodded, then pulled out his giant greatsword and pointed it toward Rael.
âIâve trained for countless years, and not once have you acknowledged my efforts,â Reinhardt said, narrowing his eyes. âAll these years⊠I bled for your praise, trained till my bones shattered, and even killed for the crown. And yet⊠youâve not even considered making me your official heir.â
âYouâre not worthy of the throne,â Rael said as he stood up from the throne and approached Reinhardt.
âYouâre an ant, and over the last dozen years, youâve not matured one bit,â Rael added with a cold smile.
âIf youâre so eager to die, why not face me outside your delusions?â
Reinhardtâs eyes widened as he took a step back.
âYouâreâŠâ Reinhardt trailed off, but instead of continuing, he simply dashed toward Rael and brought his greatsword down.
Rael was prepared to dodge. However, upon seeing the pop-up that had appeared, he could only let out a chuckle and tank the attack without even budging.
