Chapter 191: Start of the Summit
Qiqi tilted her head, puzzled. ââŠApple juice? I donât think so?â
âRaelâŠâ Linlin muttered. âIs something wrong with her?â
âI donât know what you mean,â Rael replied flatly, yet he slowly nodded, making sure Linlin got the hint.
And as she suddenly froze, he could assume she got it.
He looked back at Qiqi and handed her the potion.
âD-Drink it,â Linlin urged with a soft smile, which made Qiqi even more reluctant.
âYou know whatâŠ? I donât think Iâm thirstyâUMPH!â
Before she could dismiss the potion, Rael simply pried her mouth open and poured it down her throat.
He tried doing it the nice way, but it clearly wasnât working.
âRael, what do you think youâre doing?â Linlin jumped up in surprise but didnât stop him.
Qiqiâs body twitched uncontrollably as her hair shifted between white and green. At the same time, a sort of evil energy began to leave her body, causing the air to crackle. Eventually, her resistance ceased, and she gently dropped to the ground before falling asleep.
âDone,â Rael announced with a sigh.
The risk of her becoming one of the Evangelists had decreased drastically just now.
Everyone who wanted, or didnât want, to become an Evangelist had to go through one of these trials.
The initial trial was a simple dream where they were shown the leader of the Evangelists, Veylâaruun.
It was an eldritch being, from what Rael could recall, and not much was known about it. However, that beingâs name kept echoing inside the minds of those it had come into contact with.
And if they called out that beingâs name, then their minds get corrupted, memories altered, until eventually, they go through another stage of the ritual⊠Rael trailed off. But since it hadnât spiraled that far, weâre fine.
Linlin crouched down and grabbed Qiqi. âIs sheâŠ?â
âSheâs fine now, so follow me out. I only have about three minutes left before the summit begins,â Rael replied, beginning to move out of the sewers.
Linlin tossed Qiqi over her shoulder and did the same.
He didnât care much about the bodies of the Evangelists. After all, while they might look human, they werenât actually human.
Their bodies decomposed quicker since they relied on blood to survive. Because of that, he expected them to turn to dust within the next five minutes.
Anyways⊠Evangelists and the Holy Kingdom. I wonder if theyâre connected? Rael pondered as he finally reached the manhole and jumped out.
Linlin was right behind him, yet it seemed like she had something to say.
âWhat is it?â Rael asked impatiently. âNo, forget it⊠just tell me afterwards. Iâm busy now.â
Just as he began to walk away, her faint, almost inaudible voice rang out.
âThank you⊠I donât know what I mightâve done if my sister had died because I said a few stupid words I didnât meanâŠâ
Rael halted, turning his head to face her. âValue what you have. You can lose everything in the blink of an eye. Good luck, Linlin. I hope Iâll see you by the time the summit actually starts.â
With that, he sped up his pace toward the royal palace.
He had really underestimated his speed, as with one step, he was able to cover several kilometerâfar more than his car could, and definitely faster than he ran with Linlin.
Therefore, in less than five seconds, he arrived at the palace. Dozens of people were already gathered, yet none could come in.
Even so, Rael kicked off the ground, landing on the rooftop of the palace. He had never imagined travel to be so easy.
But I guess thatâs one of the perks of being somewhat strong. Though if I were to go to the other continent now, Iâd get one-tapped. Not fun, Rael thought as his gaze locked onto a particular courtyard Zafira had mentioned.
He noticed several dozen people already gathered there, each one wearing regal clothes of different colors and designs. They huddled around a giant round table.
And then there was Zafira, sitting alone on one side of the table, looking the most beautiful as always.
But⊠why are they all gathered here already?
Without wasting any more time, he kicked off the palaceâs rooftop and, to everyoneâs surprise, crashed down right beside the table.
âG-Guards! Intruder!â
Immediately, the six paladins dashed in front of Rael, their swords hovering closely by his neck.
But when the dust settled, each of the paladins froze upon noticing the glint in Raelâs eyes.
âWho do you think youâre pointing a sword at? Move,â Rael said coldly, and flicked the paladins away with surprising strength.
Each ruler looked at him with a different expression. Shock, irritation, curiosity.
Yet the one ruler that stood out the most was someone he didnât even expect to see in the first place.
A woman with two black goat-like horns sticking out of the sides of her head. She wore rather revealing clothes, but from her presence alone, one could deduce she was a ruler of some sort.
And in this case, she was the ruler of the Demonic Lands.
So they even have demons in these talks? This seems serious⊠Rael pondered as he ignored the gazes of everyone present and arrived beside Zafira.
He innocently sat down and adjusted his clothes before confidently placing both of his hands on the table.
âSo, what did I miss?â Rael asked calmly.
âRaelâŠâ Zafira muttered, leaning into his ear. âKing Arthur, the ruler of the Holy Kingdom, had some important news to announce. He skipped the introductions of all the rulers, so even I barely arrived on time myself. Sorry for not messaging you about it.â
Rael shook his head. âItâs fine, but did he already announce it?â
âNo,â Zafira replied, and switched her gaze over to King Arthur on the opposite end of the table. âHe was about to start, but you interrupted.â
âGreatâŠâ Rael trailed off and leaned back in his chair.
âNow that everyoneâs in attendance, I believe you can make your announcement now, Ruler of the Holy Kingdom,â Rael said with a wide smile.
And in the next moment, the burly, middle-aged man stood up from his seat. He had golden hair and eyes, yet a surprisingly pale complexion.
Nonetheless, he cleared his throat, and in a cold, emotionless voice, he spoke.
