[O-Oh. My bad,] Alune replied in a sheepish tone. [Basically, penguins are innocent creatures, so naturally, the law of the world will forbid killing. Now, if a world is filled to the brim with fighting, war, and all of that nonsense, then the Law of Death is much more lax.]

“Hmm…” Rael tilted his head. “So it’s like an adaptive artificial intelligence?”

[Um… yes? That’s a better analogy…] Alune muttered.

“I see…” Rael replied. “So it can be corrupted then? What happens if the limit is reached or something?”

She remained silent for a few moments before finally speaking.

[Corruption is rare, though it’s very unlikely,] she said plainly. [There’d need to be someone on a god’s level to corrupt it. So you don’t have to worry for the time being. Solenne is strong, but she’s not someone who meddles in affairs directly.]

Alune sighed. [As for the limit, yes, there’s one in theory… It’s basically when all the laws are broken at once, and the world tries to fix them. But since there’s so many, it simply deletes every single inhabitant before resetting the cycle again.]

“What about me?” Rael asked. “Is my strength too much for this world?”

[For your current level, yes. Don’t fight outside of dungeons for the time being. They’re like separate dimensions, so you can use as much power as you want inside. Get as much money as you can… level up as much as possible, and I’ll tell you whenever you’re good to go, okay?] Alune replied.

Rael exhaled slowly. “What about the Universe’s Will? I assume that’s a bit more extreme?”

[Oh right… It’s basically a tighter version of the world’s will. Breaking its laws isn’t as easy,] she explained. [It has multiple absolute laws, but its core law is causality.]

[Also… as silly as it sounds, if you get too powerful, the Will of the World basically sends a message to the Will of the Universe,] she grumbled. [If the Will of the Universe recognizes you as a threat, then you’d basically be erased on the spot.]

“Well… that’s at least good to know,” Rael replied flatly. “So basically, the Universe’s Will is the template, and the World’s Will is the thing that follows the template. Neat…”

It followed a set of laws, and he remembered Anubis mentioning that certain people had their own way of gathering causality.

For some, killing would give them positive causality. But it seemed like if they did it on the wrong world, then they’d be breaking its laws.

Then there were realms like the Void where laws didn’t exist in the first place, which meant they couldn’t be erased or deleted.

Still, it was nice getting some clarity on the unimaginable force that had been targeting him for a while now.

[The more powerful you get, the more the two Wills pay attention to you. Even if you’re an outer, you can only get so far,] Alune remarked. [Anyways… It’s getting late here, and I still have to take a bath to wash away all this blood.]

“I thought you said you didn’t fight?” Rael mused.

[Well… maybe a little,] Alune replied in a low tone. [I might’ve had a spar with Father after he came back. He beat me up pretty badly… because I rescued you.]

[I can hear your thoughts, by the way,] Alune remarked with a giggle. [But yeah, he’s a little overprotective of me.]

Rael chuckled. “My bad.”

[No, it’s alright. Also, the main reason why I contacted you was to enhance your blessing. Are you ready?] Alune asked.

“Hm? Yeah, sure—”

Rael’s words were cut off when all of a sudden, a searing pain shot through his entire body.

It felt as if he was on fire, but he swiftly composed himself and waited for the effects to finish.

Special Option: Trust

—You may, at any time, revoke the mark, leave the faction, and keep the rewards. However, upon doing so, you will forfeit any additional blessings in the future.

“Soul stuff, huh?” Rael mused. “On that note… that guy I killed lost a lot of stats, and even a few skills. Is soul damage just that, progress loss?”

[Memory loss, progress loss. It’s hard to explain since you can’t exactly ask someone who’s lost their memory what happened or how it felt, you know?] Alune replied. [It was nice chatting with you, Rael, but I really have to go now. I’ll contact you again in a week, if that’s okay.]

“Contact me whenever you’d like,” Rael said with a slight smile. “I don’t mind having someone to talk to from time to time.”

She let out one final giggle, and with that, he felt the connection fade.

Rael let out a sigh as he leaned back in the chair and looked up at the night sky.

He had learned a lot today, and because of that, he wanted to prepare more thoroughly.

He tapped the air and sent a single message to the sleeping Zafira.

With that, he took a deep breath and stood up, a smirk forming on his face.

It’s time to catch up on some grinding.
