Chapter 287: The Siblings, And Sub Scenario
The two remained silent, watching Rael closely.
âCome on⊠I wonât kill you if thatâs what youâre expecting,â Rael said with a sigh. âThink of me as an innocent burglar. Iâll leave once Iâm healed up, so in just a few hours.â
After all, there were no bleeding ailments in the real world. He kind of just bled.
And because of how HP regeneration worked, he was regenerating faster than the blood loss.
Still, he really wished these people would at least pretend to cooperate. It would really make his time here simpler.
That was when the man suddenly stood up and pointed a gun at Rael, glaring fiercely.
Yet Rael didnât even budge as he took out the tattered bag of chips from his pocket and began eating.
âDo you think I wonât shoot you?â the man asked.
Rael shrugged. âIâm sure youâd try. Though you might find it a bit difficult.â
The manâs brows furrowed, and without wasting a moment, he pressed the trigger.
Yet, except for a faint click, the gun didnât go off.
The man panicked, thinking his gunâs safety was on.
HoweverâŠ
âPlanes fell from the sky, cars stopped working⊠even electricity vanished,â Rael commented. âWhile guns are not electric, Iâm sure they were in the way of the being who did all this.â
So just like the other electric gadgets, Rael assumed all of the guns in the world were disabled.
Almost like an item ban.
âYou can try a slingshot maybe,â Rael remarked, pointing to the wall where not only a hunting bow was hanging, but also a metal slingshot. âIâm sure thatâd work better.â
The man lowered his gun, almost as if he lost all hope.
Soon, the woman stepped in.
âIâm Jane, and heâs Minos. Weâre siblings,â the woman said, approaching Rael. âWhy have you come here? Are you here to collect our debts?â
Rael shook his head.
âAs Iâve been saying⊠I ran away from the safe zone, and this looked like the safest place to go. So yeah, you can piece together the rest.â
Jane nodded. âI see⊠so your Main Scenario mission was to get to a safe zone, yes?â
âWasnât yours?â Rael raised a brow.
âInitially, yes,â Jane replied. âBut we didnât go⊠for obvious reasons.â
She pointed to her eye, then her brotherâs missing arm.
âThankfully, nothing bad happened. A few monsters appeared, but we managed to deal with themâŠâ She narrowed her eyes. âAnd then you appeared, just as our mana ran out.â
âI see⊠youâre pretty unlucky then.â Rael chuckled, then waved his hands swiftly. âNot that I plan on doing anything! Itâs just the pills talking, I swear.â
Jane shot him a suspicious glance, then sat opposite him.
Minos, on the other hand, was acting like a total coward as he didnât even dare to approach Rael.
But when he finally mustered up the courage to take a step, he slipped, falling face-first to the ground.
ââŠâ
ââŠâ
Whoops.
âHey, whatâs your current Main Scenario objective?â Rael asked, changing the topic. âMineâs to survive for 4 more hours.â
She tilted her head. âWe didnât get any more Main Scenario missions after the first oneâŠâ
âYou might have to wait until mine finishes then,â Rael deduced. âAnyhow, what a shit day, eh?â
Almost as if all tension was broken by his comment, Jane let out a chuckle.
âThat it is. I even lost my eye while fighting a monster, and my brotherâs arm was infected⊠so I had to cut it off for him.â
A shiver ran down Raelâs spine.
âYikes⊠I feel bad for you two. Though I doubt you actually needed to cut it off,â Rael stated. âLeveling up and putting points into your Constitution stat would pretty much cancel out the infection.â
He pointed toward her missing eye, where an extremely small mass was forming.
âCheck the mirror. If you put a few dozen points more into Constitution, your eye is going to grow back.â
Janeâs single eye widened as she ran up to the mirror and began inspecting herself.
And it only took a moment for her to realize he was right.
She slumped down to the ground, a faint trickle of tears streaming down her cheeks.
Rael let her be, as he could only imagine how she felt.
Aside from that, he decided to rest up, and just a few hours laterâŠ
[HP: 200/200]
His wounds were healed, yet the scar from nearly dying was still there.
Of course, after their initial impressions, they finally got along.
âWant a snack?â Minos asked. âWe have a few stored in our fridge. It shouldnât have spoiled yet.â
âSure, though give me a sec,â Rael replied with a hum as he stared at one interface in particular.
<00:02>
<00:01>
<00:00>
<Ding!>
<The Second Part of the Main Scenario has been completed!>
<Reward: 1 Random Skill Card>
ââŠâ
Gacha, eh?
A small card appeared in his palm, and it was one of those poker deck cards, a joker.
He wasnât sure how to use it, but when he brought it closer to his face, a bright blue hologram appeared, displaying colors of all kinds.
Gray, green, blue, purple, even a bit of gold.
It rolled for a bit, until eventually stopping on the blue color.
He was genuinely surprised, and just a few seconds later, the hologram vanished, followed by a pop-up appearing.
<Ding!>
<Youâve won: Gamblerâs Luck (Rare)>
âGamblerâs Luck (Passive): Each time you attack, there is a 10% chance to deal double damage, and a 1% chance to deal triple damage.
God damn⊠itâs actually really goodâŠ? When I go back to reality, I should buy this skill.
Honestly, he should buy a bunch of skills like this.
And of course, heâd buy a very expensive skill to make all his odds turn favorable.
âHeheheâŠâ
Yet as he was about to turn to the two siblings and brag, another pop-up appeared in front of him, causing his brows to furrow.
<A Sub Scenario is being triggeredâŠ>
<Sub Scenario: Elimination>
<Description: Two individuals did not follow the designated Main Scenario, and have been deemed irregular.>
<Objective: Kill the two survivors.>
<Reward: +1 Level Up>
<Penalty for Failure: None.>
Rael let out a sigh.
No penalty for failure, and a single level upâŠ
He narrowed his eyes and tossed the last chip into his mouth.
Do these people think Iâm a fucking cheapskate?
