Chapter 367: Incapable
âHold on.â Rael grabbed his hand, stopping him.
Alcetas turned around with a slight frown. âCome on, if I fire a spell now and run away, they wonât know who did it!â
âAnd if they do somehow find out who did it?â Rael asked. âWhat will happen to you and those you care about? They will all be executed.â
âTskâŠâ Alcetas clicked his tongue, then put away the wand.
But just as Rael thought it was over, he noticed Alcetas had forgotten to wrap the wand in a cloth.
Raelâs eyes widened as he reached out, suddenly alert.
âWaitââ
But it was already too late. The moment the wand made contact with Alcetasâs pocket, it discharged a giant, unstable fireball.
It went straight through Alcetasâs pocket and hit the ground before bouncing off and flying into the sky.
âStop controlling it,â Rael said urgently.
However, Alcetas didnât respond. Instead, he raised the wand and twirled it around.
To his surprise, the fireball in the air reacted perfectly to his movement, and as Rael was about to snatch the wand out of Alcetasâs hands, the fireball was sent flying toward the approaching army.
âYouâŠâ
Fucking idiot.
Rael snatched the wand from his hands, covered it in a cloth, and stashed it inside his back pocket.
And before the fireball could impact the army, Rael grabbed Alcetas by the collar and dragged him away.
But as expected, a few people saw what happened and began following them.
Rael weaved through the alleyways, and once it seemed like he had lost them, he realized he had hit a dead end.
And shortly after, the people who had been chasing the two of them caught up.
Alcetas wiggled out of Raelâs grip, fell to the ground, and glared at the pursuers.
âHow do you people support those damn priests? They are corrupt and do nothing but harm others!â
One of the men approached, a faint smile on his face.
âLook, kid, we all went through some serious shit in the past. I donât know what those priests did to you, but if we donât hand you in, then our entire town is going to be burned down.â
Alcetas scoffed and rolled down his sleeve, revealing his wrist.
There was a black mark on it, resembling the symbol of the Blazing Sun faction.
He didnât say a word, but despite that, the people who had seen the mark all took a steep step back in surprise.
âYouâre⊠youâre branded?â
<The Mindforged Emperor has recalled a distant memory!>
<Description: Every single subject belonging to the Church of the Blazing Sun is branded with the respective symbol. If the symbol glows golden, that means the subject is faithful. If it does not emit a glow, the subject is deemed a heretic and must be taken into the Blazing Sunâs embrace for a purification ceremony.>
Thatâs⊠bad? Why is he showing it to these people? Theyâre obviously going to turn him in,
Rael thought with a conflicted look.
But despite his expectations, the man from earlier glanced around, then nodded at Alcetas.
âRun away, kid. Weâll figure something out.â
With those words, the man stepped back, and alongside the rest of the people present, he walked away, his hands trembling slightly.
ââŠ?â
âLetâs go, Milan,â Alcetas said urgently and grabbed him by the hand.
He dragged the confused Rael across the city, while at the same time, they heard distant explosions coming from the direction where the townâs entrance was.
But shortly after, they reached the outskirts and ran further ahead. Eventually, they reached a forest crossing and turned left.
After 20 minutes of running, they left the forest and arrived in a vast field.
To the sides were hundreds of gardens, whether they were flowers, crops, or even random sticks someone seemed to be growing for no reason in particular.
More importantly, at the center of the field stood a two-story red brick house with a familiar chimney running up its side.
Of course, this was the house that Alcetas wanted Rael to find in the first place.
Yet as they approached it, the doors suddenly swung open, and through them came out a single figure.
Not only that, but past the figure, Rael saw a portrait that appeared to depict Alcetas alongside two other people.
But he couldnât make out the details that well, so instead, he focused on the figure that stepped out.
At first, they were faceless, but moments later, the figure gained a face.
It was a kind-looking golden-haired elderly woman, likely Alcetasâs mother.
âWait here,â Alcetas said and let go of Rael, then approached the woman.
But instead of a kind hug, the woman struck Alcetas across the face with the back of her hand, causing him to fly off into the vegetable garden.
Raelâs brows twitched, and as he was about to check up on Alcetas, the woman coughed slightly, getting Raelâs attention.
âMilan, yes? Alcetas has been talking a lot about you. Thank you for being his friend,â the woman said warmly. âWould you like to come in for some apple pie?â
ââŠâ
Rael narrowed his eyes, sensing as if something was wrong.
âMilan? Is everything alright?â the woman asked, taking a few steps forward and arriving right in front of Rael.
She leaned down, and with a loving smile, tilted her head.
But as she opened her mouth to speak, Rael suddenly took out the wand he had brought with him, and in the blink of an eye, stuck it inside the womanâs eye socket.
âAAAAH!â the woman screamed, recoiling in pain.
Yet Rael didnât move from his spot, simply staring at the woman as she thrashed, bleeding profusely until her movements slowed and she glanced at him with her remaining eye.
âWell⊠that was a bit unsuccessful,â the woman remarked, clicking her tongue.
In the next moment, a couple dozen pop-ups appeared in front of Rael.
<Ding!>
<The Mindforged Emperor detects an invasion into Alcetas Audagarâs Dream Realm!>
<Threat: Extreme.>
The womanâs body began to morph, and at the same time, Alcetas rose from the ground and approached Rael, then spat out a mouthful of blood.
âThank you for taking me this far,â Alcetas said, his voice deep, a stark contrast to what it had been earlier. âBut Iâm afraid this is where weâll have to part ways, Rael.â
A faint smile appeared on his face as he snapped his fingers, causing the entire space and the Dream to collapse, the sky riddled in shards like cracked glass.
All that remained was the single red brick house, which Alcetas approached slowly and walked inside.
But moments later, he walked back out, a disappointed look on his face.
âAs I thought⊠it is still empty,â Alcetas remarked. âSo much for reforging forgotten memories. Even someone like you canât do it.â
His gaze traveled toward Rael.
âFor your valiant attempt, I will keep my promise.â
Rael remained quiet as he didnât want to trigger something with his words, so he simply nodded.
And in the next instant, Alcetas extended his hand forward.
What followed was a strong repulsion force that pushed Rael back.
But it wasnât back into the Dream Realm; instead, it was straight into reality.
<You have been forcefully ejected from Alcetas Audagarâs Dream Realm!>
<Threat has been avoided!>
His vision was overwhelmed by flashing colors until finally, the dark sky came into view.
Beside him was Lilith, and in front of him, Alcetas alongside the grinning Solenne.
âWell, wellâŠâ Solenne clapped her hands slowly.
âThat was a fun experience, wasnât it, Rael?â
