Chapter 437: All Problems Can Be Solved With A Cool Black Katana
Rael gave Adam a quick rundown on what had been happening in the Depths, and soon enough, they were on the same page.
But of course, before the talks could continue further, he pointed at the unconscious Melina.
âWake her up, would you? Sheâs important,â Rael said plainly.
Adam rolled his eyes and waved his hand. In the next instant, Melina jolted awake, her eyes wide as a deep frown appeared on her face.
âHey⊠I get that youâre strong and all, but whatâs with the pressure shit? Could you kindly keep it to yourself?â Melina asked ominously.
Rael elbowed her side. âYour pirate side is seeping out.â
âSo what?â Melina scoffed, propping her legs on the repaired table. âIf Iâm going to die, I might as well die knowing that Iâve spoken my mind to the bastard.â
âWhile I do understand your frustrations, you were someone that should not be a part of the conversation I had with Rael. Trust me, itâs not because I dislike you, but simply because merely being aware of what we were talking about would put you in immeasurable danger,â Adam replied calmly.
Then, he gave her a thumbs-up. âBut fear not, you may join our conversation now.â
âWow⊠look at the balls on this guy,â Melina muttered, her brow twitching. âFine. Iâll join, but you are going to compensate me for all the troubles I faced, arenât you?â
âThat is what I plan on doing now.â Adam nodded, turning toward Rael. âYou wish to conquer Karethâs continent? More so, he is not prohibiting you from doing so? He really has changed⊠He used to be such an annoying and stubborn kid in the past.â
He cleared his throat. âBut times have changed, and I shall stop talking about the pastâŠSo you two only wish for power that you can use to defeat a Grade 5?â
âThatâs the gist of it,â Rael replied with a shrug. âMelina here is very close to ascending, soââ
âNo need to ascend. Take this,â Adam interjected and pulled out the black katana before tossing it over to Melina.
It had startled her to the point where she nearly fell backward, but even so, she managed to catch the katana, holding it tight in her right hand.
âStrength is crucial, but it is never absolute,â Adam said. âTechnique is what matters, and your preparedness. Simply put, if I was able to injure Solenne while I was only Grade 6, then you can easily defeat a mere Grade 5.â
He smiled. âAfter all, this is the same sword I used against Solenne. It is a little special, but youâll figure that out as you fight with it.â
âFine, Iâll share in your optimism,â Melina replied with a sigh. âThough I fail to understand how a sword would be enough to tip the scales, I guess thereâs not much we can do.â
âWell, you wonât be fighting alone,â Adam remarked, pointing at Rael. âHe seems to have enough power to rival a Grade 4. Whenever he ascends, he will very likely be able to contest even the highest of Grade 5, and definitely the weakest of Grade 6.â
If only Burger could give such great pep talks, Rael thought, clicking his tongue.
âSo youâre saying because we will fight together, we will overcome the difference in Grade?â Melina repeated, holding out the sword. âSo whatâs this for?â
âYour swordsmanship is crudely elegant,â Adam said. âContradiction in combat is what makes you an unpredictable fighter. One moment you swing the sword cleanly, and the next, you throw it directly through their throats⊠That is something I do as well.â
âYou really are a bundle of compliments, arenât you?â Melina chuckled.
âI give compliments where compliments are due,â Adam replied flatly. âDo not take it as a sign of affection. I have loved only a single person in my lifetime, and I choose not to love anyone else.â
âDonât worry, I wasnât interested,â Melina said and stashed away the black katana inside her inventory. âIs that it? Any more boons you plan on giving us?â
âYou may consider your lives as a boon, as I chose to spare you,â Adam stated warmly. âI donât take kindly to visitors, even if they are against Solenne. That weapon is my way of congratulating you for making it this far, but this is where my generosity and amusement ends.â
Rael didnât expect such words to come out of Adamâs mouth, especially not so suddenly. But a man who had maxed out his insanity debuff seemed to match the part especially well.
He waved his hand, making the table disappear, and instead, a blue portal appeared, which would very likely lead them back to the Depths.
But Rael felt like it would be a waste to leave just like that, especially after coming this far.
âSo do you plan to sit here for all of eternity?â Rael asked, tilting his head. âBecause believe it or not, while you are out here sitting on your ass, Solenne is growing more powerful.â
âI have been sealed away for far too long to consider coming back to my post,â Adam replied flatly. âMy only purpose was to destroy the Blazing Sun religion, and after being sealed, I was free. Alcetas is the only reason Iâve yet to end my life, as I truly believe that one day, his memories would come back.â
Free, huh? He doesnât look that free to me. Rael narrowed his eyes, his gaze turning more resolute.
âIâm going to come back here after Iâm done with a few things on my end,â Rael said. âAfter all, I believe what you need is just a little push to get your shit together.â
âThen you best come here when you are more powerful,â Adam replied with a faint smile. âIf my intuition is correct, then our goals might be more aligned than I had initially anticipated. So donât disappoint me whenever you return.â
With those words, Adamâs scarlet eyes glowed brighter as he raised his hand.
âAlso, a little warning. Controlling an entire continent in the Depths is a very delicate matter, so I trust you know what you are getting yourself into.â
Before Rael could even process what Adam had just said, he felt a strong push.
Without being able to do anything, he was sucked through the portal, and as expected, he arrived right where he left, inside Melinaâs mansion.
A moment later, Melina arrived as well, plopping down on the carpet as she lost her footing.
Through the gap in space, Rael was able to see Adamâs parting figure, yet his back was turned away.
As much as Rael wanted to recruit this guy, he knew that he had gone into that dungeon far too early, and the only reason he came out of it alive was because of a mutual interest.
After a few seconds, the portal closed, and the moment it did, a scarlet key fell onto the ground, resembling the one Rael had used to get inside the dungeon.
He took a deep breath and calmly stashed it away before turning toward Melina.
Their dungeon run was only half successful, since Melina didnât manage to ascend. However, she did get Adamâs katana, so it was better than nothing.
There were also the parting words Adam had left behind, but Rael wasnât going to scrap his whole plan just because of one warning, even if it came from a powerful individual.
Iâll come back here very soon, Rael thought with determination. It shouldnât take me long to reach Grade 2 or Grade 3 if I just spam dungeons while also mastering my Laws.
So with that in mind, it was about time he returned to the main objective at hand.
He extended his hand toward Melina and flashed a slight smile.
âWhy donât we pay the Hollow Kingdom a visit?â
