Chapter 474: Getting Along

“I see…” Rael smiled. “So long as you’re comfortable, I’m fine with it. But hey, if it’s not too much to ask, what happened? I mean, I read about Gaia existing in the books on my old world. She was like the Primordial Earth Mother, right? So how did you, well, die?”

Gaia tilted her head slightly. “My cycle of life ended naturally… or I guess you humans refer to it as dying from old age. At least, that was how I should’ve died.”

Of course, he didn’t believe her one bit. She was the mother of all things, so for her to die of old age was the same as Burger saying lizards didn’t descend from dragons.

Both were bullshit their own way, but at least this woman seemed more credible.

“I’m serious.” Rael rolled his eyes, stepping toward her and placing a hand on her naked shoulder.

In an instant, the leaves that had been gently falling began to make their way toward Gaia. Before long, her entire body was covered in perfectly shaped leaves, creating a comfortable dress.

She was a bit surprised by his actions, but she didn’t voice her thoughts out loud. Instead, she decided to satisfy his curiosity.

“There was once a child I cared for with all my heart,” Gaia said in a longing tone. She adjusted her dress slightly, then met his eyes. “That child was the most powerful and loving person that I have seen since the birth of the universe, so I took care of them.”

“But like always, my generosity was repaid in the form of betrayal,” Gaia added. Yet for some reason, her tone didn’t contain even a trace of malice. It was almost as if she didn’t care that much.

But her expression said otherwise. It was clear she was suppressing her bitterness and burying her feelings deep down.

“With their betrayal came a universal cost, which I chose to pay with my immortality. As the last embers of my life force were coming to an end, there came a being who promised to reignite my immortality, at the cost of servitude.”

Picking up on the hints, Rael sighed. “So Evelyn’s the one who found you, then? I guess she does seem like someone who would offer something like that.”

“I didn’t catch their name,” Gaia said. “Honestly, I didn’t even see their face. All I know is that the one who made that promise transferred my consciousness into your mind.”

So it’s Evelyn. Rael nodded to himself. “I’m sorry to hear that. But I can promise I won’t take advantage of you if that was your worry.”

“Ah, I’ve already seen a bit of your memories.” Gaia shook her head. “You’ve changed a lot ever since arriving in this world, but…”

She lowered her gaze. “Your past life was painfully dull. If it makes any sense, you’ve lived more in a few months here than in 28 years in your world.”

“That’s true. My past life can’t compare to the one I have now,” Rael replied with a smirk. “Also, I am technically over 386,000 years old now, aren’t I?”

“No offense, but those numbers are child’s play. Whenever time unfreezes, your age will go back to normal… or I guess you will be 74 now,” Gaia said softly. “Though you don’t look a day over twenty, if that makes you feel any better.”

Rael’s brows twitched slightly, but he ignored her comment. He was in pretty good shape, and despite 74 years passing in here, he didn’t look that much older at all.

Anyhow…

“If you weren’t sure already, let me tell you this.” Rael cleared his throat. “You can stay here. You can also style this place out as much as you want. Just do keep in mind that I might bring a few enemies here from time to time, so I don’t want to destroy your forests by accident.”

“Don’t worry about me, this place is going to be untouchable to anyone who dares try to harm it,” Gaia replied with a smile. “And also, thank you. I’m sure that I’ll be able to pay you back once I get a better understanding of what’s going on with me.”

By that, she obviously meant her current state. She had technically died, but she was now alive with all her experiences, minus her strength. Rael didn’t dare to ask her too many questions. She seemed vulnerable at the moment and he didn’t want to overwhelm her.

But of course, he was probably imagining it. A supreme existence such as her could probably crush him with a single thought, even without a physical body.

Even so, he was going to act like she was any other girl, at least for now.

“I’m sure you’ve already seen my memories, but you’re going to have a few friends soon. Burger is one of them, and that annoying angel egg is about to hatch too. So I really hope you get along with them.”

Gaia’s eyes widened slightly as a warm smile spread across her face. “I can get along with them. As for you, I truly hope we can get along. I don’t have many powers at the moment, but I can feel them slowly coming back the more I stay in here. So I promise that as long as we are together, I shall help you to the best of my abilities.”

With that, she turned around, facing the trees.

“I will hold onto the Angel Egg and stop it from hatching until you finish your duels,” she said, her tone one of relief. “After that, we can have another talk, because I can sense you’re curious about who this child I protected was.”

Before he could reply, she snapped her fingers, causing a white, glowing egg to appear in front of her. She snapped her fingers again, enveloping the entire egg in grass and moss.

She held it firmly and sat down beside an oak tree, crossing her legs and cradling the egg while humming an enchanting yet relaxing melody.

Noticing that, Rael felt he had found a good companion, or rather, she found him. But of course, there was plenty he didn’t know about Gaia, and while he wanted to find out more, he still had to deal with the Supreme Monsters.

Therefore, Rael took a deep breath and closed his eyes before finally leaving the Mind Realm.
