Chapter 658: Old Tavern
When Rael woke up, he realized Lilith was already gone.
But she wasnât far.
She was fully dressed once again, but her hair was wet.
It was very likely she had jumped into the water to wash herself up after yesterday.
He should do that too.
So as he passed by her and gave her a kiss on the cheek, he washed up, got dressed, and eventually bought the two of them a massive pizza.
They didnât talk about what happened yesterday.
It was clear what the two wanted, and so words werenât needed.
Regardless of that, the two quickly finished up the pizza and drank some apple juice afterward.
Now thenâŠ
âHow do we get out of here?â Rael asked the obvious.
âMmm⊠Iâm not sure, to be honest,â Lilith replied. âI know this place because I read about it in the books. Itâs like a mythical pool thatâs supposed to make you immortal. Though, itâs just a hot spring.â
Fair.
âSo should I just fly the two of us up?â
Lilith shook her head and then smiled.
âWhy would we do that when we can just teleport out?â
OhâŠ
Right.
He forgot about it because he wasnât used to having something so convenient all of a sudden.
Still, since Lilithâs mastery over the Law of Space was higher, she was the one to create the crack in space which the two walked through.
And when they arrived on the other side, they were back in Velmar.
It was still slightly dark outside, and with only a few hours left before sunrise, the two were not exactly sure what to do.
But that was when Lilith said something he didnât quite expect.
âDo you want to have an actual marriage when weâre back in the Dralgur Continent?â
âWhy? Arenât we already married?â Rael asked.
âWeâre married as demons,â she replied with a hum. âIâm thinking we should get married in the traditional sense too⊠or something. Sorry, itâs a stupid idea.â
âNo, itâs fine,â Rael said, waving his hands, slightly surprised. âIâd be happy to marry you like humans do. If thatâs what you want, of course.â
She nodded repeatedly with a smile, and seeing that, Rael simply nodded back at her.
âOkay. Weâll get married when weâre back. On that note, when exactly are we heading back?â
He met her gaze.
âDo you want to stay here until you become the Demon King, or until the ceremony is done?â
Lilith tilted her head slightly.
âUm⊠I donât mind either way. I donât have to be at my territories to rule over them because of your constructs. Also, becoming the Demon King is a very long process. We have plenty of time, so we can just head back after the ceremony. That is, if you survive.â
Rael chuckled.
âAs if I wouldnât survive. Have you seen me in the last round?â
âTrue. You destroyed that demon pretty easily.â Lilith crossed her arms. âBut donât get complacent. Youâre strong, but youâre not that strong.â
Ouch.
Though she was right.
He wasnât that strong, but he was fairly strong.
For that reason, he wasnât planning on underestimating anyone in this ceremony, and instead, he was going to take everything seriously.
Nonetheless, with their yesterdayâs fun behind them, Rael and Lilith went ahead and walked around Velmar for a while.
Demons didnât need to sleep, but they still liked to rest.
So they had hours when they worked, and hours when they didnât. Basically, they were just like humans in a way.
Rael didnât expect to be doing much aside from walking here, but that was when Lilith suddenly stopped in front of a broken-down tavern.
He didnât think much of it at first, but after seeing the look of regret on her face, he couldnât help but ask her about it.
âDid you use to live here?â
âYou could say thatâŠâ
Lilith let out a sigh and scratched her cheek.
âI used to steal candy from this place. The woman who worked here was blind, so she never really knew what I was doing.â
UhhâŠ
âIâm a terrible person, arenât I?â
âWellâŠâ
Rael avoided her gaze.
As he was about to reply, she let out a giggle.
âIâm just joking. I used to eat lunch here every day. The blind woman was like my second mother. Sadly, after I got exiled, I couldnât visit her anymore.â
She approached the broken-down tavern and brushed her finger against the frame.
Dust clung to her finger, so she wiped it on her pants and glanced back at him.
âOne of the first things I had looked into when I took over this place was the deed to this tavern. It didnât take me long to find out that the woman had died of old age.â
âIâm sorry to hear that⊠Also, demons can actually die of old age?â Rael asked.
He didnât see any demons actually dying of old age in the memories of the Eternal Dream.
âIf we choose to,â Lilith replied. âWhen a demon has nothing to live for⊠or they are just tired of living, they crack their demonic core. That turns them into mortals, you could say. They age normally again, and they also die normally too.â
âOf course, not all of us have demonic cores.â Lilith pointed at her belly, then smiled. âThe top demonsâ cores have assimilated with their body. You could say our whole body is a demonic core. So we canât really crack it, since in doing so, we would just die instantly.â
Rael didnât really understand this bit that much, since no matter how he looked, he couldnât feel this core she was talking about.
But maybe it was metaphorical?
Either way, it was nice to see her open up to him like this.
It was fun listening to her too.
But as the sun began to rise, Rael knew that it was time the two of them went back to the capital.
He was about to create a spatial crack over there, but before he could, Lilith placed her hand over his and smiled.
He immediately got the message loud and clear.
She wanted to spend more time together.
And so, after interlocking their fingers together, the two slowly flew toward the capital.
