Chapter 718: The Portal Down
Ever since Burger reminded him of his immortality that he might or might not have slightly forgotten, Raelâs path ahead turned pretty uncontested.
And so, within just a few seconds, he reached Victoriaâs throne room and noticed her inside, talking to someone.
She had a frown on her face.
But after a brief moment, that frown turned into a smile.
Just then, a portal manifested in front of her, containing vivid and beautiful colors, all of which kind of stunned Rael for a moment.
It almost made him forget that he was still being attacked by the whole Fate Dragon race.
[Honestly, I can kind of understand,] Burger chimed in. [You fought beings who can bypass this immortality of yours, and now youâre fighting those who canât. I guess your time inside the Spirit Realm might be easier than one would expect.]
Any tips for when I go in?
Rael asked.
[Tips? Uhh⊠Hereâs one. Donât do any sightseeing, since that place is as soulless and barren as one would expect. All the imagery youâll see is just someoneâs imagination. Basically, get in there, go find me, and then we can all get our asses out of there,] Burger said.
Hearing that, Rael let out a chuckle.
He was hoping he could just go and do everything fast, since he had no intention of spending a lot of time in yet another new Realm.
As if reading his thoughts, Burger added:
[Yeah, donât worry. The Spirit Realm has multiple layers that are kind of similar to the Prophetic Realm. So long as you find the right layer, youâll be able to find me.]
Fair enough.
With that, Rael used a little bit of his mana to blast off all the surrounding Fate Dragons, and then he stepped forward, meeting Victoriaâs gaze.
âSo? Is this it?â
Victoria nodded.
âIt is indeed. We may leave at a momentâs notice. Iâm just a little curious about the Soul Dragon. Does he have any other contracts aside from youâŠ?â
âMy nameâs Rael,â he introduced himself, then asked the same question to Burger.
[Of course not. I only stick with one contractor at a time.]
âNope. Heâs only with me.â
A relieved expression appeared on Victoriaâs face.
âIn that case, severing the connection will be easy. If he had a bunch of contracts, then weâd be in serious trouble. It seems like I might get married today after all.â
RightâŠ
Anyhow, Rael cracked his neck, adjusted his posture, and then lastly walked over to the portal.
He tried to peer through it, only to fail miserably.
âI canât see anything either,â she chimed in. âThe Spirit Realm is very thoroughly guarded from outside interference. But since I called in a favor, they will know weâre coming.â
âWell, thatâs fine. Itâs not like weâre planning to be there for long,â Rael replied and then exchanged one final glance with her.
As if reading his intentions, Victoria also approached him and extended her hand toward the portal.
Rael did the same.
Although he was expecting some kind of dramatic teleportation, what he was met with instead was complete and total darkness, followed by a few flickering lights in the distance.
It was so quick that he didnât even know he had teleported.
There was no sensation, indication, or any change in feeling eitherâŠ
But obviously, he needed to head toward those flickering lights if he wanted to reach the Spirit Realm.
However, right as he began to move toward them, he felt someone grab the hem of his clothes and pull him back down.
Once he glanced back, he spotted Victoria, whose eyes were glowing.
She opened her mouth and spoke, yet he couldnât hear a word.
But thankfully, he had Burger-pedia.
[Sheâs saying thatâs a trap. The real Spirit Realm is under you.]
Rael felt like he might need to learn to read lips in situations like these.
Either way, he nodded back at her.
A satisfied expression appeared on her face.
Then, she let go of his clothes and began flying downward.
Although Rael couldnât feel anything, judging by how they were moving, it was as though they were in an ocean.
A rather warm ocean, if his skin was sizzling.
Nonetheless, the two continued heading downward, and with every passing moment, the heat of the water increased to the point where even Victoriaâs skin began to boil.
Rael didnât really get this kind of defense mechanism.
Why make their skin boil so gruesomely when they lack all feeling?
Clearly, someone up there wasnât the brightest.
But even so, once they were far enough down, it seemed like they reached the bottom.
Both of them stood up and glanced around the seemingly endless bottom, with no opening in sight.
Just as Rael was about to go and explore the place a little to try and maybe find a way down, his vision wobbled slightly.
And when he turned toward Victoria, he realized she was ripping apart the ground with her bare hands.
His eyes opened wide as he stared at the place she had ripped open.
It was a pitch white realm, but there were also several dozen buildings, plazas, medieval buildingsâŠ
Youâre right. Itâs really like a bunch of imaginations mixed together. I canât say it doesnât look interesting though.
Burger scoffed.
[Staring at that unclear shitshow every day is not very fun, I can assure you of that much. I can admit though that some of those spirits have beautiful figures. Resisting them is very hard.]
Should I tell your to-be wife that youâre a lecher?
Rael mused.
Burger coughed a few times.
[N-No need. Iâm an innocent man who has a dog, his own house, and even a⊠a⊠Fuck. Give me some ideas. Whatâs normal?]
Rael rolled his eyes at Burgerâs shameless behavior and crouched down to help Victoria open up the path to the Spirit Realm.
It was harder than it looked.
But using the Law of Destruction, it was slightly easier.
And so, within just a few minutes, they had a clear hole leading directly into the Spirit Realm.
So without further ado, both of them jumped inside.
