Chapter 744: Weird City
âIt looks like you scared her off,â Rael remarked.
All the while, Nyx just stared at the spot where Rei had been a few moments ago before turning to Rael.
âI didnât expect that.â
âYou donât sayâŠâ
Nyx facepalmed.
âStop being so sarcastic and focus. She ran away, so itâs your turn to run.â
Rael raised a brow.
âYou think Iâm going to run away after that interaction? I didnât think you two were that close, but if anything, it looks to me like you might be able to convince Rei to step out of her shell⊠Or something.â
Nyx rolled her eyes.
âI knew you would say that. Still⊠I donât have any intentions of making her one of your allies. If I do convince her, Iâm going to drag her far away so she wouldnât get caught up in all of this.â
It seemed like she cared about Rei deeply.
Although he wasnât sure what kind of connection they had beyond what he had just heard, he was a little curious to find out.
And of course, he had nothing to say about Nyxâs statement, so he just nodded at her, agreeing.
âGood. Stay behind me now. Just think of yourself as a spectator, alright?â Nyx said, and he nodded again.
âSure. Iâll just be here then. Do you know where she went?â
Nyx pointed toward the black hole.
Rael didnât need to take long to connect the dots and figure out that she may or may not have entered the black hole.
âIsnât it a legit black hole thoughâŠ? Wonât we, well, die?â
âYouâre immortal, and Iâm pretty much also immortal. It doesnât matter,â Nyx replied, and then began floating over to the black hole.
When she was close enough, she stopped using her mana and allowed the pull of the black hole to bring her closer and closer, until finally, she just vanished out of sight.
Rael was still a little creeped out by using the black hole as some sort of teleportation mechanism, but since he could still feel Nyxâs presence in the back of his mind, he was sure she wasnât dead.
So with that in mind, Rael flew on over as well and allowed the black hole to pull him closer.
But that was when he felt like his skin was being scorched and his body ripped apart. It was an excruciating amount of pain, and it was almost like he was experiencing all of it in slow motion over and over again.
He was only thankful the pain went away after his vision vanished.
Though he was sure that the only reason his vision vanished was because he had just been de-atomized.
Not a very fun experience.
A few minutes passed, which soon felt like it turned into hours.
Eventually, his regeneration kicked in, restoring his body immediately.
He was a little startled that he still felt the pull of the black hole.
However, once he glanced back, he realized that a glass pane was separating him and the black hole, which was incredibly close.
ThoughâŠ
Glass pane?
Rael glanced around, quickly spotting some furniture, alongside the view of space from the large windows.
It seemed like he was in some kind of spaceship.
A well-decorated spaceship⊠and this was maybe the living room?
âHmmâŠâ
How strange.
Rael went ahead toward the door, and after opening it, he froze.
The room he had just left was just one room of many, as up ahead, there was a whole forest that almost seemed never-ending.
The walls were riddled with rooms that also seemed to stretch on endlessly, both horizontally and vertically.
This was some kind of top-notch sci-fi city, Rael was sure of it.
It was really damn empty though.
Even so, Rael didnât come here to admire this wonderful city, and instead, he focused on his connection to Nyx.
He found out that she wasnât that far away.
In fact, she was in that endless forest up ahead, only a few million kilometers away.
So Rael simply hummed to himself and took a step forward.
The surroundings faded, then reappeared as he found himself standing only a few meters away from Nyx, who was leaning against a tree with an annoyed expression.
âIt took you long enough. I thought your regeneration was top tier.â
Rael scoffed.
âYou know, if you had told me I would get de-atomized, I wouldâve prepared myself to regenerate sooner. But oh well, that didnât really happen, did it?â
She rolled her eyes.
âYeah yeah. Anyways, Rei is just up ahead. It looks like she has been living here for a while. Not quite sure what this place is though. Itâs my first time seeing it.â
âSo even you donât know, huh?â Rael mused. âWell⊠If the only way to enter it is through a black hole, I can kind of see why there are so few people here.â
She shrugged.
âI doubt thatâs the only way. But it doesnât really matter. Come, letâs meet Rei.â
With those words, she went ahead, and Rael followed right behind her.
The forest here seemed to be a mix of every known forest in the universe, but as it so happened, Rael was in the part that was most familiar to him back on Earth.
A pine tree forest.
There were even a few animals and birds flying around.
It honestly didnât make any sense.
Anyhow, it didnât take them long to arrive at a part of the forest that was a little more open than the others.
Coincidentally, this part had a lot of spider webs, and even more spider eggs.
Almost like that wasnât already creepy enough, Rael felt the spiders climbing over him, though he couldnât see them as they were just that tiny.
A shiver ran down his spine as the two of them finally reached Reiâs location.
She sat on the root of a tree, and for once, her face was a little more expressive than before.
And as if on cue, Nyx and Rei locked eyes.
