Chapter 900: Gauging Intentions
âYou⊠What were you doing?â Melissa descended, gliding across the air effortlessly.
She was just like Altros. She looked more mature, and her strength was by no means a joke either. If Rael had to guess, then Melissa was just slightly stronger than Altros.
But then again, the two of them were still only Grade 2s, which wasnât much by universal standards.
Well⊠It doesnât matter,
Rael mused and backed off, only for Melissaâs nagging to get even louder.
âI felt your presence since the moment you got here, asshole. You didnât even try to come and help me out. How do you think it feels to be stuck in ice with your mana being constantly drained? Itâs shit! You bastard⊠Just wait until weâre back home. You wonât be getting food for a whole week.â
OofâŠ
âHe still has no relationship, huh?â Rael chimed in from the side, clicking his tongue.
Melissa turned toward him with a glare. âAnd who are you, exactly?â
Rael raised a brow. âDid you forget me already? We met once like twenty years ago.â
âTwenty?â Melissa paused for a moment, trying to recall him. Though for some reason, it seemed like she couldnât really remember.
Well, Rael didnât really blame her. He had only met her for a few minutes at most, and when he had erased her memories of meeting him, that mightâve set off some kind of chain reaction that deleted more.
Whatever the case may be, she seemed to remember Altros perfectly, and that was all that mattered.
âWell, I guess it doesnât matter. Iâll be taking you two out of here, soââ
âNo,â Melissa interjected. âThe reason I came here was to investigate an anomaly. I need to do this if I want to get a promotion.â
A slightly disgusted look appeared on Raelâs face. âYou have to work for a promotion? Canât you just tell them what to do, and theyâll do it? Itâs not like you arenât strong enough.â
Right as she was about to reply, Altros chimed in instead.
âSheâs one of those idiots who likes to do everything by the rules. Iâm already rich as shit, and Melissa is too busy trying to get a promotion at her minimum wage gig over in the Hunterâs Association.â
Hmm.
âWhat do you hunt?â Rael asked.
Altros shrugged. âNothing. They just do reviews and stuff. As for the anomalies, theyâre just monsters that have come from a dungeon. They go into those dungeons to do research on just how many more types of monsters there are.â
Rael whistled. âThat seems boring as shit.â Then, he turned to Melissa. âAnd you do this full-time?â
She pouted, her hands trembling in annoyance. Though she could easily tell just how powerful Rael was, and for that reason alone, her instincts told her not to say anything stupid. But she couldnât understand why her brother was being so reckless.
She knew he was stupid, but was he stupid enough to the point that he had a death wish?
âThat beardâs pretty ugly, by the way,â Rael said.
Altros scoffed. âAt least I can grow a beard. Look at you. You havenât grown a single speck since I last saw you.â
Raelâs brow twitched. âI choose not to grow a beard because I donât like it. Plus, I can easily grow a beard if I wanted to.â
âYeah, maybe after a beard transplant,â Altros replied.
Right as it seemed like they would get into a fight, Gaia descended.
âThatâs enough of that. You said you needed to do some research, right, Melissa?â she asked.
Melissa turned toward Gaia and nodded, so Gaia continued:
âIn that case, which monster is it? I have a collection of every single being and monster inside my head, so I can give you the information right away.â
Youâre spoiling her a little too much, donât you think?
Rael said.
Gaiaâs expression didnât falter as she replied to him with her mind:
[You would spoil her too if you werenât such a coward. Now start prying into her mind, since I doubt sheâll tell me anything.]
And she was right, as instead of directly telling Gaia what the monster was, Melissa just began talking in circles. It was honestly pretty annoying, but that was why Rael read her outer thoughts and got a rough idea of just what kind of monster she was looking for.
Sounds like a giant dark rhino with three horns on its head. Did we have those?
Rael said, musing.
Gaia thought about it for a moment before saying:
âYouâre looking for the Darkness Rhino. Itâs a Demonic Beast originating from the Demonic Lands. It mustâve swum all the way over here if it managed to enter your world through a portal. Thatâs pretty impressive.â
âPfft⊠Sheâs making such a fuss over a rhino?â Altros could barely contain his laughter. Though Melissa did clock him pretty fast as she sent a slap across his back, sending him flying directly into one of the walls of ice.
He sank deep into one, making it hard for anyone to see his body from the outside. He didnât come out either, but Rael wasnât too worried, since this was just sibling banter, maybe?
âNow that you got what you were looking for, you donât have any reason to stay in this world anymore,â Gaia added.
Melissa narrowed her eyes. âIs this the world of Sketa Online?â
âOriginally, yes,â Gaia replied without hesitation. âItâs very dangerous here, and youâre better off entering it through your headset. That way, even if you die here, you wouldnât really be dead.â
Melissaâs expression pretty much said that she wasnât planning to die here, but Rael wasnât really in the mood to be her father, so before Gaia could reject her once again, he decided to be a bit more open.
âI rule this world, so what do you want, exactly? Do you want to visit the big city up there, or do you just want to laze around and do nothing like your brother?â
