Chapter 40 : Even I Was Moved To Tears
As night fell, a brilliant array of stars adorned the sky above Qingyan Peak. Amongst the starry river, dazzling meteors occasionally streaked across, slicing through the night.
Ye Xuan was curious whether the starry sky in this cultivation world was truly the universe or, as in some novels he had read, was the universe merely a speck of dust in the grand scheme of the cultivation world, with the stars being merely manifestations of its rules?
However, Ye Xuan felt that the universe here should indeed be a real universe; otherwise, as an Earthling, he would have died from the unfamiliar environment upon arrival. Or had his body transformed upon transmigration, and he simply didnât realize it due to lack of a reference point?
Lost in these thoughts under the starlit sky, Ye Xuan found his mind unable to wander further. He was sitting with Yu Lingâer on a rooftop somewhere in Qingyan Peak, listening to her recount stories from before her rebirth. In reality, Ye Xuan knew much more about the future than Yu Lingâer did â after all, he was the one who wrote the script.
To his surprise, the stories he crafted turned out to be incredibly impactful. As Yu Lingâer spoke, she was already in tears, and Ye Xuan too found his eyes reddening. âMen shouldnât easily cry,â they say, yet here he was, moved to tears by his own narrative.
The desperation and despair he depicted in his script, especially the unrequited and tireless dedication to Yu Lingâer, overwhelmed him now in a way they hadnât when he was merely experiencing the story.
As Yu Lingâer continued, a tear rolled down Ye Xuanâs cheek, falling onto the icy surface below and freezing into a small ice flower. âDamn it,â he cursed silently.
He was losing face as a transmigrator, getting teary over his own script. Did his own story really possess such profound emotional power? Surely not. It was unheard of for a writer to be moved to tears by their own creation.
In the end, it must be Yu Lingâerâs deep emotions and her compelling way of storytelling that drew him into the narrative he had penned.
âIt should be right,â Ye Xuan thought to himself.
âBrother Ye Xuan⊠thatâs why I initially wanted to kill you. Do you understand?â Yu Lingâer, wiping away her tears, spoke to Ye Xuan, âItâs all my fault. In my previous life, I wronged you, and in this life, I misunderstood you so much. Even if I were to die by your hand, I would deserve it⊠You have every right to kill me in revengeâŠâ
âEven if I die by your hand, I have no complaints⊠But, I beg you, donât kill me. Let me repay you properly in this life, okay? Please forgive me, give me a chanceâI will spend my whole life treating you well!â She held Ye Xuanâs hand, soaked in tears, looking at him with deep affection.â
ââŠâ Ye Xuan sighed, not rushing to respond to Yu Lingâer. He underestimated the impact of this storyline on himself⊠It felt like he had been watching a whole season of a melodramatic romance drama. Despite knowing every detail of the plot he wrote, even the fact that he was actually a villain turned hero, he couldnât help shedding tears.
Taking a deep breath to compose himself, he finally said, âJunior Sister, Iâve heard your explanation.â
ââŠâ Instantly, Yu Lingâer tensed up. She understood that her story, or her explanation, was too fantastical. If Ye Xuan chose not to believe her, he had every reason to doubt the truth of her story. It was very likely that he wouldnât believe her. And if he did believe, he might be even less likely to forgive her.
After all, it was her fault, yet she had tried to kill him. If it werenât for Beidou Star Lordâs intervention, she would have already killed him. Whether he believed her or not, he might not forgive her.
But at this moment, Yu Lingâer couldnât worry about that. If Ye Xuan was unwilling to forgive her, she would either persistently haunt him until he killed her or fell in love with her. Yet, she still hoped for a real, good outcome between them. If Ye Xuan could believe her now and give her a chance to repay him, that would be ideal.
Facing Yu Lingâerâs loving gaze, Ye Xuan continued, âI choose to believe your story. If this world can have divine beings, then Beidou Star Lord altering a mortalâs fate isnât beyond comprehension.â
âReally? Thatâs great, Ye Xuan! I knew you cared about me, otherwise, why would you cry for meâ!!!â Yu Lingâer exclaimed joyfully, embracing Ye Xuan excitedly.
âUh⊠I was just moved by the story, not crying for youâŠâ Ye Xuan had more to say, but Yu Lingâerâs excitement made it awkward for him to continue.
He had planned to clarify that trust didnât mean easy forgiveness. Partly to tease her, and partly because he didnât want to commit too soon in this new world. After all, many other women might still harbor feelings for him, and their stories could turn vengeful if they knew about his relationship with Yu Lingâer.
But with Yu Lingâer already in his arms, what could he do? He was human, after all, with emotions. Besides, he had been moved by his own story. Resigned, he hoped that future female characters wouldnât target him just because he already had a partner.
âYe Xuan⊠such a sentimental and righteous person? For Yu Lingâer, he suffered a lifetime of injustice and pain without regret. Why could he be so caring and devoted to her but so heartless and ruthless towards me? He cried for Yu Lingâer, yet watched me cry without a hint of compassion. Such cold-heartedness, such ruthlessnessâ!!!â
Unknown to Ye Xuan, a figure in the sky, with a stunningly beautiful face and a celestial demeanor, was watching him and Yu Lingâer. Despite her icy appearance, tears were rolling down her cheeksâŠ
She, too, was moved by the story Yu Lingâer narrated to Ye Xuan. In her once almost emotionless eyes, there was now an endless bitterness and sorrow. Her hatred for Ye Xuan deepened even more. If Yu Lingâer knew her story had not only touched Ye Xuan, the scriptwriter, but also someone harboring hatred for him, she might feel a sense of pride.
