"No need to thank me. If that day really comes, I hope you can help Xiao Leng."
The Base Commander gently closed the pocket watch in his hand and tucked it into the pocket closest to his heart.
"Alright!"
Song Hongfei agreed immediately.
He also felt that what he said earlier was somewhat inappropriate; someone as powerful as the Base Commander shouldnât need his help.
Helping anyone is still helping, and since Leng Yebai is the Base Commanderâs son, if Leng Yebai needs help, naturally, he would assist him.
"Letâs go!"
The Base Commander stood up from the chair, his long legs casually stepping forward, and he was already in front of Song Hongfei.
"Now? Not waiting until evening?"
Song Hongfei glanced at the glaring sun outside, slightly surprised.
Even if the Base Commander is all-powerful, taking Song Wenwen into the safe base in broad daylight is still somewhat inappropriate, isnât it?
"Maybe the decision will be different by evening."
The Base Commanderâs voice carried a hint of melancholy. He stopped speaking to Song Hongfei, opened the door, and walked out.
"Alright! Letâs go now!"
Song Hongfei hesitated no more, running to catch up, leading the way for the Base Commander.
The two werenât slow, and soon they were in front of the car where Song Wenwen was hiding.
When they arrived, only Songâs mother was there.
"Whereâs Song Ning?"
Song Hongfei frowned as he looked at the car, thinking Song Ning was too irresponsible to leave Songâs mother here alone to watch the car.
If something happened, even if Songâs mother was exceptionally capable in combat, she couldnât fully guard the car. If Song Wenwenâs presence was discovered, it would cause even more trouble.
"He went home, Kerou is there; we canât go back." Songâs mother glanced at the Base Commander and spoke softly to Song Hongfei.
Itâs simple, Song Kerou is clearly not on the same page as them, and Song Wenwenâs death might have been intricately linked to her.
Song Wenwen naturally couldnât return to the villa.
Only when Song Kerou left could Song Wenwen go back.
"Itâs also time to put an end to this."
Upon hearing Songâs mother say so, Song Hongfei nodded slightly, not finding it inappropriate.
At first, when they adopted Song Kerou, every member of the Song Family treated her as if she were their own. However, along the way, the Song Family gradually realized that adopted children donât simply reciprocate kindness.
"Letâs change the location!" The Base Commander suddenly suggested, "Itâs not like thereâs only that one villa; Villa 47 is unoccupied too."
Villa 47, located in a remote area of the villa district, was surrounded by greenery. Before the apocalypse, it boasted prime real estate status.
After the energy tides, weeds overgrew, making it eerily serene, and few survivors with post-apocalyptic psyches would choose such a desolate place.
Such a villa is ideal for hiding Song Wenwen.
Even if Song Wenwen accidentally ran out from inside, it wouldnât be the first place people would notice.
"Alright!"
Without thinking, Song Hongfei immediately agreed.
He knew it wasnât easy to simply drive Song Kerou away, and even if he could, there was no guarantee when she might return.
To ensure Song Wenwenâs safety, they had to choose a secluded place.
Thus, before Song Ning returned, the Song couple drove the car toward the safe base.
The Base Commander sat in the front passenger seat, with the window slightly ajar so people outside could see him seated inside.
From afar, people noticed the Base Commander seated in the car.
The Base Commander remained his usual stoic self, his powerful aura preventing anyone from approaching the vehicle, consciously steering clear.
A distant greeting sufficed.
The car with the Base Commanderâs presence was naturally exempt from inspection, not even having to submit the usual two ordinary crystal cores to enter the gate.
The car steadily moved toward the base, and from a distance, the Gatekeeper spotted the Base Commanderâs face, promptly opening the gate to let them through.
Just as they were about to enter the gate, Bai Yifanâs voice came from ahead.
"Hi! Uncle Leng, how are you?"
The Base Commander lifted his eyes and saw Bai Yifan on a bicycle with Bai Xiqin seated at the back.
Bai Yifanâs face carried a smile, yet Bai Xiqin was curiously observing their surroundings, showing an intrigue for everything.
The driver, Song Hongfei, distinctly felt the Base Commanderâs demeanor change noticeably after encountering the Bai siblings.
He seemed much more approachable all of a sudden.
"Xiao Fan! What are you up to? Why are you out here on your own? Why didnât you bring Xiao Leng along? Your sister hasnât fully recovered, and the sun is scorching out here; donât get burnt! Also, there are many zombies outside, make sure not to stray too far! If thereâs any trouble, hurry back immediately!"
The Base Commander suddenly became quite chatty, somehow managing a smile on his usually stern face.
"Yeah! Got it!"
Bai Yifan cheerfully nodded, riding the bicycle past the black Song family car with his sister.
This time, only Bai Yifan and Bai Xiqin were venturing out of the safe base, mainly because Bai Xiqin felt unfamiliar with Leng Yebai and didnât want to bring him along.
So, Bai Yifan sneakily took Leng Yebaiâs bicycle, spiritedly taking Bai Xiqin, and while Leng Yebai was not paying attention, they slipped out of the safe base.
"Huh? Sis, did you hear something?"
Bai Yifan suddenly halted and looked back toward the direction of the car.
"What sound?" Bai Xiqin shrugged, indicating she hadnât heard anything.
"Zombies, of course! Maybe thereâs one hiding in that car!" Bai Yifan grinned widely.
He did hear a faint zombie groan, but since the Base Commander was in the car, there couldnât be a zombie inside; he must have misheard!
But itâs still fun to scare his sister!
"Donât talk nonsense! If there were zombies in the safe base, it wouldnât be called a safe base!" Bai Xiqin tapped Bai Yifan.
"Sis, donât worry, Iâll protect you, nothing will happen!"
Bai Yifan patted his chest, looking very dependable.
Bai Xiqin blinked, seeing Bai Yifan as a character straight out of TV, turning from a milk-drinking baby into a zombie-fighting man in the blink of an eye.
Instantly, Bai Yifanâs image grew immensely in Bai Xiqinâs eyes.
After all, Bai Xiqin still considered herself a feeble college student who hadnât even slaughtered chicken, let alone fought zombies.
"If there are too many zombies outside, weâll just rush back."
Bai Xiqin tightly gripped the dagger in her hand.
Although not stating her fear, Bai Xiqinâs actions belied her trepidation.
"Relax! Iâm here!"
From Bai Xiqinâs perspective, Bai Yifanâs head was glowing with a golden light, seemingly more radiant than the sun itself.
Indeed, Bai Xiqin found her younger brother extraordinarily reliable, tremendously cool, and the embodiment of safety!
This was the first time Bai Yifan felt such a sense of superiority in front of Bai Xiqin.
"Letâs go!"
Bai Yifan stylishly rang the bike bell, and they embarked toward the outside of the base!
