After breakfast, the blue-and-white bus started a low rumbling and drove toward the Yellow River.
Along the way, they didnât encounter many zombies.
Occasionally, when they did encounter a regular zombie, it was directly knocked far away by the bus.
"Sis, isnât it strange that weâre encountering so few zombies? Do you think weâre being watched? This is too odd."
Bai Yifan looked at the windshield with only a few drops of black blood, feeling somewhat uneasy.
Fewer zombies made him feel a bit on edge too.
He was just afraid of being ambushed by a horde of zombies.
Bai Yifan thought it was easy for his family to attract zombie hordes and considered themselves lucky to have escaped from zombie hordes several times!
An ambush by a zombie horde also seemed unlikely.
Their bus was moving quickly, able to break through the encirclement.
Still, seeing this desolate appearance was a bit frightening.
"Itâs fine, keep going."
Bai Xiqin glanced at the busâs rearview mirror, her voice calm and collected.
"...Alright!"
Bai Yifan floored the gas pedal, making the bus speed up a bit.
"Bang bang smash!"
As the bus gained speed, more zombies hit the front windshield.
Compared to normal situations, there were still fewer zombies.
"Letâs go this way. Thereâs a shallow river here. When you reach it, turn off the engine and pretend the car broke down."
Bai Xiqin took out a clear map, spread it out in front of Bai Yifan, and pointed to a shallow river.
The river wasnât very deep; a person walking across would probably reach waist-deep.
For the large Bai Family bus, reaching the middle of the river would only just submerge the tires in water.
"Got it!"
Bai Yifan didnât ask why.
Given his brain, he couldnât figure out why anyway, so he just followed the plan!
Thinking too much would be brain-consuming; Bai Yifan just wanted to be a mindless good kid.
"Xiao Niu, did you notice something wrong?"
Liu Jing also glanced at the rearview mirror but saw nothing except the constantly receding scenery.
"Mm, thereâs something that needs confirmation." Bai Xiqin lightly nodded and then suddenly turned to look at Leng Yebai, asking with a half-smile, "Donât you agree?"
Leng Yebaiâs body stiffened for a moment, feeling as if his days were numbered.
"...Right?"
Leng Yebai touched his nose, quietly turning away from Bai Xiqinâs dark eyes.
Feeling inexplicably guilty.
How did he feel like Xiao Niu had noticed something?
"Hehe."
Bai Xiqin gave Leng Yebai a cold laugh twice, sitting silently on the sofa.
Leng Yebai hesitated, rubbing his fingers back and forth.
A bit hesitant.
Should he confess?
But those two old folks said that if he leaked the news, theyâd pin the blame on him.
"Xiao Fan, when you stop, take a break and reinforce my dagger again."
Bai Xiqin silently held the dagger, gently wiping it.
"Got it!"
Bai Yifan glanced at Leng Yebai with glee, his voice strong and clear.
He wondered what Leng Yebai had done to upset his sister, but he was quite happy that, for once, he wasnât the only one in trouble.
As Bai Yifan, living at the bottom rung of the family, watched someone being worse off than himself at some point, he felt a sort of twisted satisfaction.
A gentle smile hung on Leng Yebaiâs face as he quickly took two or three steps to sit beside Bai Xiqin on the sofa.
With a flattering expression.
"Um, Iâd like to talk to you about something."
Leng Yebai rubbed his fingers, feeling a bit awkward.
He decided to opt for honesty to seek leniency.
"I donât want to hear it."
Bai Xiqin calmly gestured the dagger near Leng Yebaiâs neck and continued wiping it.
Leng Yebai instinctively shrunk his neck, swallowing nervously.
"If I said I was threatened, would you believe me?" Leng Yebai forced a smile.
He really couldnât smile.
Always feeling that Xiao Niuâs dagger might cut into him at any moment.
"I believe you."
Bai Xiqin nodded affirmatively, though her fingers wiping the dagger didnât stop.
The sharp dagger reflected Leng Yebaiâs somewhat tense face.
"Actually, those two people..."
Just as Leng Yebai was about to confess, Bai Zhengxuan suddenly patted him on the shoulder.
"Xiao Leng! Did you upset Xiao Niu?"
Bai Zhengxuan smiled, pulling Leng Yebai up from the sofa and dragging him a few steps away.
This kid had no experience.
The more it was like this, the less he should be with the fairies, for fear of getting beaten up.
Having lived with the fairies for so many years, Mr. Bai long understood the pattern.
Leng Yebai scratched his head, momentarily unsure where to start, just glanced at Bai Xiqinâs silent face, and meekly said, "I know two people, but havenât told Xiao Niu."
"Thatâs it?" Mr. Bai was bewildered.
The reasons the fairies got angry seemed increasingly incomprehensible.
He remembered when his wife once got mad because he didnât rub the Da Bao lotion on his face, resulting in him getting beaten up.
He thought that reason was reasonably bizarre.
He hadnât imagined his granddaughter could surpass even that.
"Something like that..." Leng Yebai coughed lightly.
In front of Mr. Bai, he really didnât know where to start explaining the matter of the old Mr. Bai from the future.
"Come on, tell me, what horrible criminals are they?" Mr. Bai patted Leng Yebaiâs shoulder, looking understanding.
Perhaps Bai Xiqin just didnât like the two people Leng Yebai knew, hence the anger?
"Actually, those two people are..."
"Leng Yebai, go wash my socks."
Leng Yebai didnât even have the chance to say it before being interrupted by Bai Xiqin.
Bai Xiqin was afraid her guess was wrong and didnât want to hear Leng Yebai spell it out.
Afraid that what sheâd hear wouldnât match what she thought.
Hearing that Xiao Niu responded to him, Leng Yebai quickly took two or three steps to sit next to Bai Xiqin again.
Smiling, he said, "Iâve already washed your socks; there are no socks left to wash. Remember, I wash them for you every day, and since the weather was nice yesterday, I even brushed your shoes."
Leng Yebai, although having a stern look and a rather tough voice, spoke in a caring tone.
Bai Xiqinâs feelings were unknown to Mr. Bai.
Anyway, Mr. Bai found it rather... bitter-sweet.
Bitter enough that it made his teeth ache as if theyâd fall out, despite having none.
"Wash them again." Bai Xiqin looked at Leng Yebai, adding, "Also, arenât there too few photos in the living room? Bring a few more to place there!"
Bai Xiqin emphasized the word "photos."
"...Okay."
Leng Yebai obediently nodded, heading off to wash the socks.
He felt guilty, not daring to disagree.
Previously when middle-aged Mr. Bai and middle-aged Liu Jing were eating in the bus, Bai Xiqin saw Leng Yebai giving them photos.
Bai Xiqin always felt that middle-aged Mr. Bai and middle-aged Liu Jing gave her a very familiar feeling, as if they had known each other for a long time.
There was also a special familial bond.
Bai Xiqin had always been puzzled by why she felt this way toward these two "strangers."
Until their family was besieged by zombies, and those two risked their lives to save them.
The scars on middle-aged Mr. Baiâs arm.
And the face similar to Bai Anhai.
Leng Yebai inexplicably handed them a family photo of the Bai Family.
And now, following behind the bus were those two again.
