"I know this, itâs a man." Gu Qiaoqiao replied smoothly.
This was also the phrasing agreed upon in advance with Chu Chengfeng and Xiao Wen at home.
Captain Choo stared fixedly at Gu Qiaoqiao. A few moments later, he suddenly burst into hearty laughter, "Itâs fine, if you canât figure it out, just forget it."
Gu Qiaoqiao laughed as well, "Iâve told you everything I can. At first, I thought you wouldnât believe me. But that person spoke so confidently, they must be familiar with Boss Qianâs family situation, otherwise, they wouldnât have called me."
At this point, Gu Qiaoqiaoâs tone shifted, "Actually, I also donât quite understand why this person didnât report directly to you."
Captain Choo thought for a moment, "Maybe they have concerns."
"Hmm, maybe." Gu Qiaoqiao replied softly, then asked again, "Does this have anything to do with Boss Qian?"
"The initial suspicion has been ruled out, it seems to have nothing to do with him for now."
Gu Qiaoqiao nodded, "Have they been released?"
"Not yet, the family is still processing the paperwork."
"Is there anything else, Captain Choo?" Gu Qiaoqiao asked with a cheerful smile.
Choo Jiang shook his head and changed the topic. He said loudly, "Speaking of which, itâs been years since I last saw Qin Yize. The last two times he came to Jinling City, I was out capturing suspects elsewhere. I couldnât treat Ah Ze to a drink, such a pity."
"Ah Ze mentioned that when you were young, you often hung out together, and you were the elder brother." Gu Qiaoqiao said with a smile.
Choo Jiang laughed heartily, "What elder brother, our group didnât go by age but by skill. Ah Zeâs martial arts were top-notch, he was our leader. Back then, we often fought with that group from the East City District. Now, thinking back, it feels like it was just yesterday."
"A true young fighter," Gu Qiaoqiao praised.
Choo Jiang was taken aback, "Is this a compliment? Whereâs it from, Iâve never heard it."
"Haha, I made it up. Captain Choo, if this were ancient times, your group would truly have the style of extravagant noble youths..."
Surprisingly, Captain Choo nodded, "Youâre right. My dad used to scold me every day for being a wastrel, not studying hard. Heâd also say, look at Qin Yize from the Qin Family, he fights too, often leading the fights, yet his studies are stellar, ranking first every year. Isnât that infuriating?"
Gu Qiaoqiao chuckled.
Qin Yize was probably the model child others compared their kids to.
After chatting for a while and with nothing more to ask, Choo Jiang accompanied Gu Qiaoqiao out of the office.
Chu Chengfeng and the others also unloaded the items from the car, and the officers on duty today were in high spirits.
The items, aside from some left for the cafeteria, were to be distributed among everyone.
The Gu Family was generous, buying all good quality stuff.
Though they had salaries, they couldnât compare to the Gu Familyâs means.
Those out on tasks for the day got an individual gift, but Gu Qiaoqiao was considerate, knowing they were all from the same department, so there was no need for discrepancies.
So, everyone else received small gifts too.
However, compared to the individual gifts, they were still somewhat lesser.
This was quite normal; frontline officers carrying out tasks face risks, so itâs what they deserve.
After all, this was a workplace, different from the military as it was not closed-off, so no one investigated who they were or what they did in the military.
But here, it was different.
There were people coming for business, to report cases, or even thieves caught; overall, there was a lot of coming and going.
Gu Qiaoqiao had learned all she wanted to know and had nothing more to ask, so she bid Captain Choo farewell and followed Chu Chengfeng, Xiao Wen, and others toward the entrance.
Unexpectedly, at the entrance, they met Boss Qian coming out from another door.
In just one night, the old man appeared much more haggard. He had looked upright and agile yesterday, but today, his back seemed bent, and he appeared very unwell. When he saw Gu Qiaoqiao, he froze, his somewhat sinister eyes darting about. He whispered a few words to an elder beside him who was a few years younger, then hurriedly approached Gu Qiaoqiao.
Standing before Gu Qiaoqiao, he opened his mouth but didnât speak.
Gu Qiaoqiao furrowed her brow, unsure what this old man wanted with her.
Yesterday, he had practically chased her and Boss Xu away as if they were a plague.
So why had he come to her now, what did he want to say?
Curious, Gu Qiaoqiao took the initiative, "Boss Qian, fancy meeting you again..."
Boss Qianâs eyes flickered, and he finally spoke, "Gu Qiaoqiao, Iâd like to have a word with you..."
Beside him, Chu Chengfeng looked at the old man and asked, "Did you find out who that person is?"
Boss Qian glanced at Chu Chengfeng. He knew this man was also associated with Gu Qiaoqiao, but since he didnât recognize him, he didnât ask who he was, just shook his head, "I donât know. I want to discuss something else with the Young Master."
Then, looking at Gu Qiaoqiao, he asked, "Is that okay?"
Generously, Gu Qiaoqiao nodded and told Xiao Wen and the others, "Wait for me here, Iâll just have a chat with Boss Qian and be back."
Xiao Wen nodded, feeling assured that at the precinctâs entrance, Boss Qian wouldnât dare harm Gu Qiaoqiao.
Even if he wanted to, he should consider if he had the capability.
Gu Qiaoqiao followed Boss Qian to the shade of a nearby large tree.
After all, it was a blazing hot day, and talking in the sun could cause heatstroke.
Standing under the cool shade, Boss Qian wiped the sweat from his forehead. This time, Gu Qiaoqiao didnât take the initiative but patiently waited for Boss Qian to speak.
She wasnât feeling hot at all.
Boss Qian glanced at Gu Qiaoqiao in surprise. Her smooth white skin, jade-like, made her seem completely unaffected by the heat.
However, this time, Boss Qian didnât hesitate. He spoke, "Gu Qiaoqiao, you know about the matter in the backyard of my teahouse, right?"
Gu Qiaoqiao nodded readily, "Yes, I heard about it at noon."
This wasnât a big secret; at least, the teahouse staff all knew about it.
And of course, some early patrons who came for tea and breakfast were aware as well. Pausing briefly, she continued, "And it happened right under the flower trellis we sat at yesterday."
Boss Qian nodded. His voice was somewhat hoarse, and with difficulty, he said, "Right, thatâs where my grandchildrenâs mother is buried..."
"Your son did it, didnât he?" Gu Qiaoqiao asked directly.
"Who else if not him?" Boss Qian said angrily.
Gu Qiaoqiao watched Boss Qian, knowing he wasnât there to talk about this.
However, she thought of something and asked, "Were the kids home this morning?"
Boss Qianâs face darkened instantly, his eyes filled with grim and angry emotions. Clenching his fists tightly, he gritted his teeth, "Yes, just as they were about to leave..."
