Chapter 704: Chapter 704: E City Base Leader
"""
"Keep an eye on this side, Iâll go check over there,"
Lu Hao told Lian Jiyue.
Lian Jiyue looked in the direction Lu Hao was pointing and also understood the situation, "Donât worry."
The label on this container read number seven, and the man inside looked older than the others. He kept his head down and remained silent, but Lu Hao smiled.
"Still pretending? Youâre a staff member from the research facility, right?"
Lu Hao said from outside the glass.
This manâs body wasnât pale from being soaked like the others, and the label in front of him was blank, indicating that this container was originally not meant to hold anyone, or perhaps... the person it had contained had already escaped.
Lu Hao couldnât help but recall what he had heard before about a Dual-Element Ability User at the baseâs city gate who had gone on a killing spree and triggered a Zombie Tide.
Realizing he couldnât hide any longer, the man inside finally lifted his head to reveal a face that looked no different from a normal personâs, except with very heavy dark circles under his eyes.
"Hasnât anyone ever told you not to disrupt others at work?"
The man inside produced a silver scalpel in his hand, gesticulating with it toward Lu Hao outside the glass as he spoke.
"Some people are so eager to make use of those experimental subjects to kill us, how can we not return the favor?"
Lu Hao sneered. The power outage moments ago and the sudden frenzy of several experimental subjects were clearly this personâs handiwork. Lian Jiyue had mentioned that once the power went out, the test subjects inside would get activated.
"OK, I surrender,"
The man sliced through the glass with the scalpel in his hand and then staggered out from inside.
A few Dual-Element experimental subjects nearby had already been dealt with by one family and Lian Jiyue. The man knelt beside the body of one experimental subject, sobbing in agony.
But he quickly calmed himself, stood up, and told Lian Jiyue, "You have no right to kill me. Iâm waiting for Han Yizhou to return."
"Han Yizhou is already dead, killed by Han Yi,"
Lian Jiyue replied.
"Han Yi? How is that possible? He is the most perfect experimental subject we have ever had!"
The man thought Lian Jiyue must be lying. Han Yi was sentient and listened to Han Yizhou; theyâd even lived together. How could he possibly have killed him?!
"Believe it or not, and I also donât plan on sparing you,"
Lian Jiyue lunged with his blade toward the manâs neck, but the attack was blocked by a metal tray the man used.
"Han Yizhou is dead, but I can wait for Han Wan. You donât qualify to kill me! Iâve already mastered most of the research facilityâs technologies!"
The man was pressed to retreat by Lian Jiyue. He knew he was no match for anyone here, but he wasnât ready to die; he still had a bright future ahead!
Pu-chi!
The blade finally pierced through the manâs chest, and the scalpel in his hand immediately slipped away.
"Heh, you still donât know, do you? Han Wan has taken your..."
The man didnât finish his sentence and slowly fell.
"Dead,"
Mao Qiqi said.
"What was he trying to say at the end?"
Lin Xiuyuan murmured, looking down at the body.
Lian Jiyue shook his head and continued destroying the remaining equipment in the room.
Lu Hao found a remote control button in container number seven; pressing it, the room suddenly brightened again.
In the remaining labs, zombies used for different experiments were locked up. Some zombies had been dissected until only the parts above their chests remained, yet they were still alive. However, it was evident that no one had entered here for a long time, and the stench inside was unbearable.

Lian Jiyue used his Metal Element Ability to destroy all the instruments, then Lu Hao simply set the place ablaze with fire.
This time, it should be thoroughly destroyed.
...
Overnight, the E City Research Institute was reduced to a pile of ashes, with many people unaware of what exactly had happened here. Moreover, they hadnât heard any explosion soundsâwhat kind of fire could have turned an entire area to ash?
Still, this was an exciting development for everyone, for if they survived this Zombie Tide, they wouldnât be controlled by that research institute anymore!
So, the Survivorsâ enthusiasm for fighting Zombies soared to unprecedented heights.
Lian Jiyue also had someone collect the 1.5 million Crystal Cores in the base and exchanged them all for supplies with Su Jin.
"A large portion of E Cityâs Crystal Cores were taken to the Han Family in B City,"
Lian Jiyue explained. This was also a reason why he, during his previous tenure, had kept a portion of the Crystal Cores.
"Han Familyâs strongholds sure are numerous, huh?"
Lin Xiuyuan remarked.
"After the Zombie Tide ends, we should be able to gather another batch of Crystal Cores. I just donât know if youâll still have enough supplies,"
Lian Jiyue began to worry if the Heart Talk Store would run out of goods if he bought all the supplies.
"Donât worry, thereâs plenty, and we will collect more on our way to Country Y,"
Lu Hao reassured him, implying that they wouldnât be stingy if Lian Jiyue managed to buy out all the supplies in their Space.
...
The E City Zombie Tide finally ended on the sixth day after Su Jin and her team arrived.
The base suffered significant deaths and injuries, but most were incurred on the first day. With the protection and command of the Heart Talk Team and Lian Jiyue in the following days, there were not many casualties.
"It wasnât easy at all. This is my first time experiencing a Zombie Tide! The base actually made it!"
"Yeah, if it hadnât been for Commander Lian and his friends, we might have turned into Zombies long ago."
"Will Commander Lian continue to be our Base Leader?"
"I hope so. I think heâs the only one whoâs truly cut out to be the Base Leader here."
"..."
As people chattered among themselves, some of them also entered a state of advancement. The prolonged stress over the past few days had significantly improved many peopleâs Special Abilities, greatly enhancing the baseâs strength.
However, to the disappointment of the people of the base, Lian Jiyue stated that he did not plan to continue as the Base Leader of the E City base.
"Commander Lian, why? The base canât be without you,"
Liu Shibiao panicked, as he had planned to work closely with Lian Jiyue after the Zombie Tide was over.
"Yes, Commander, we were just starting to look forward to your return."
"Please, we beg you to stay!"
"..."
Lian Jiyue had only said a few words to Liu Shibiao, but he hadnât expected such an overwhelming response from the Survivors of the base. He planned to continue working with the Heart Talk Team, especially since they had helped him out a great deal this time.
Most importantly, he didnât want to be separated from Qiqi.
"Youâre needed here as well. I suggest you stay. After things have stabilized, we can talk again about heading to Country Y. It wonât be an issue for the few of us to go,"
Lu Hao said.
Though E City base had survived the Zombie Tide, it was now a time when the base was significantly weakened. Previously, the base had been forcefully upheld as a vassal of the Han Family, but in reality, it was no better off than the former base in H Province.
