Standing beside him, Ge Liutao wiped away tears while listening to him make the call.

“Little…” Chiang Songhai felt a lump in his throat as he prepared to say these words. But they had dragged this on for over half a month already. They couldn’t keep delaying any longer. If this truly ended up causing Little trouble, it would genuinely be their fault. “Your grandma and I have thought it through. If you really want to find suitable parents for adoption, we have no objections. We won’t oppose it.”

“Grandpa?”

“We were wrong before. Back in our hometown, children who were adopted often didn’t recognize their biological parents or grandparents. But that’s because they were adopted very young and didn’t remember anything. You’re different, though. You’re already grown up and have always been a good child, thoughtful toward us. You’ll surely always remain our dear granddaughter.”

Pausing for a moment, Chiang Songhai continued, “So, we don’t mind, and we don’t oppose it. As long as it’s good for you, that’s what matters. Just come back to visit us more often, okay?”

Chiang Xiao could clearly hear the choking emotion in his voice.

Just as she was about to respond, Chiang Songhai spoke again: “But, the people adopting you, we have to choose wisely. They should genuinely care for you and have no ill will. Do you already have someone in mind?”

Chiang Xiao sighed softly, understanding how difficult it must have been for them to make this decision.

Suddenly, she felt as though she was indeed being a bit cold-hearted—or rather, perhaps her previous life, where she couldn’t protect herself well, led to being pushed into such a corner by rumors, with her grandparents asking her to endure. That lingering resentment, however faint, made her sometimes neglect to consider their feelings first.

But to be honest, when Meng Xinian mentioned how her grandparents had reacted strongly the last time, she had already completely abandoned the idea.

Chiang Xiao said, “Grandpa, to be straightforward, I did contemplate this before, and I even had someone in mind—my teacher. My teacher and his wife don’t have children, and they’ve always treated me kindly, so I felt they would be quite suitable.”

Before she could finish her sentence, Chiang Songhai hurriedly interjected, “Teacher Liu? They are very good people, truly kind, and they care about you. But if you’re adopted by them, they’d become your parents? How would that work out age-wise?”
